1st September 1976, I was married to Mrs B.

Spent the wedding night at the Swan Hotel, Newby Bridge. The next day at Thirsk races and the following day at York races (Black Duck Stakes day).

Saturday drove to Manchester Airport then on to  14 to Can Picafort, Majorca for a fortnight.

Lovely days then and since.

Nice hotel, I spent a couple of nights there on a management "Team Building" course back in the nineties.  Nice location, nice rooms and nice cuisine.  Cool

Would have been warmer here in 1976.

Thanks everyone.

Table booked tonight for 7pm. Nothing fancy, just our local where it is Pie Night.

I think I will have to push the boat further than that though.

Actually carried her "over the threshold"  all those years ago.

Wont try it tonight, back will probably go.Laugh

Congratulations Mrs & Mrs Barstool and Happy Anniversary to you both.

Only been to Cartmel a couple of times. Went with an Owner who had a horse with George Moore. George had two winners that day. Micky Hammond was riding for him back then and he also rode a winner for another yard, so a great day.

Even stood in the trainers viewing platform the viewing was not good for most of the circuit. Must have improved a lot for the big screen.

Glad you enjoyed your day know all.

was that around the time of alkepa and aston express barstool ?
Report barstool September 1, 2021 6:35 PM BST
I remember Aston Express. The visit to Cartmel was probably mid to late eighties.

Raisabillion was another horse he trained for someone in theses parts. Won a few until killed.

If anyone has a form book with the 03/09/1976 York meeting winners in I would love to see if I can remember them.

I know the Black Duck Stakes was on that day as it is not a name you forget easily.
Report ged September 2, 2021 8:14 AM BST
barstool - I'm afraid that, like most of us, your memory is a bit inaccurate.

the Black Duck was run on July 9, 1976, and was won by Mofida (5/1, beating the odds-on fav, Hot Heir).

I'm sure you haven't got your wedding day wrong (or if you have, you're probably no longer around to read the forum anyway), but working from there...

York was on Sep 2.
Thirsk on Sep 3.

Winners at York were:
Lochranza (Empress Regent was FPP by 2.5 lengths but was DQ'd)
Lady Mere
Cosy Bar
Gracious Melody
Wounded Knee
Cumnock Scouse

Winners at Thirsk:
Boom Quay
La Couronne
Charta Pearl
Voucher Book
Mrs McCardy - carried 7-13 in a nursery, though jockey claimed 5, and she was top weight.
Spring Diva

There was the Black Friars Handicap at Chester that day, won by Persevering. That's as near as I can get you to a Black Duck on Sep 3.

ged,

Thank you very much. It would seem the old memory has lapsed a bit.

Tbh none of them ring a bell now. Of course I remember Mrs McCardy, who won the 1000gns the following year. Some progress she made.

Once again, thanks for the research.
