The Sunday Times (paywalled) reports that Marcus Boyle from Deloittes will be the new GC boss.
A former strategy chief at the accountancy firm Deloitte is set to lead the betting industry watchdog, which is under increasing scrutiny over its failure to tackle problem gambling.
The Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) is understood to have selected Marcus Boyle to replace Bill Moyes, whose term as chairman of the Gambling Commission ends later this year. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/deloitte-man-marcus-boyle-to-run-gambling-commission-8tvpsktmk
It is not clear that Boyle has much experience of betting but I expect he knows which knife and fork to use.
Here is Boyle's profile at the British American Drama Academy, or BADA, which he chairs:-
Marcus Boyle is the Chief Strategy Officer for Deloitte and a Board member for Deloitte Central Europe.
He was previously the Deputy CEO for the Consulting Business and sat on the Consulting Board
Marcus obtained an Upper Second Degree in Economics and Business Economics at Southampton University. He joined Arthur Andersen in 1986 and qualified as a Chartered Accountant. He transferred to the Consulting Division in London where he became one of the Firm’s youngest ever Partners. He joined Deloitte as a Partner in 2002.
Marcus is one of Deloitte’s most senior Partners and has over 30 years of consulting experience. He works with the Firm’s most significant clients on their scale engagements. These are generally major change initiatives requiring him to work with main Board Directors and senior leadership teams to drive change in their operations
Marcus also has a significant role in the non-profit sector. He is Chairman of British American Drama Academy. He is also a Trustee of the Serpentine Gallery in London. He sits on various committees at the Historic Royal Palaces. He has worked with a number of charities on operational reviews and improvement plans. For example, he was integral to the merger of ChildLine and the NSPCC.
He has also been the Partner responsible for all of Deloitte Consulting’s charitable and community programmes and been the UK representative on the Global Community Investment Board. He has received awards for his vision and drive of the programme.
He continues to be an active sportsman and has four children. He enjoys a number of pursuits such as playing football, skiing, piano and beekeeping. http://www.bada.org.uk/our-staff/marcus-boyle/
Hmm. Look at that URL. Boyle has evidently not persuaded BADA to move its website from the insecure http to the secure https protocol. That does not bode well.
