I can't buy a 4 or 10 pack anywhere at all. Kept a minimum stock level of 60 tins in my shed all through the lockdown but got a bit to complacent and let it run down too much.Cry
They should never have shut Strangeways Brwery in Manchester down. Made in Luton now, a non drinking town, full of idlers who wont make my beer. What is a man to do?  I have gone off Guiness,  tastes like licorice these days and John Smiths is a poor substitute to what was the cream of Manchester. So, off to the pub for a Moorhouses White Witch.

Hope no one else is going short tonight.

Happy madhatters, true enough. Not liked the place since the plastic pitch did for West Ham a few times!

It was dodgy stuff in those days, think the 4G is more forgiving. In saying that, I did my cartilage on a 3G pitch.

Did they do a charity match later for you?!

A bit weak in the can is Boddies at just 3.5%, more likely to get water logged before you get pissed, nice though. Just tucking in to some Doombar at 4.3% with some Old Speckled Hen to follow. Whilst studying form for tomorrow of course. Nice thread.

Bods is awful beer, only drunk in the North West ain`t it.
Report Tiger Tiger July 31, 2021 12:02 AM BST
Aye Shanelee but its quite a smooth decent sort of beer on keg, the hand pull is slightly better but its the strength of just 3.5/3.6 that's not good, you literally will become waterlogged before you get pissed.

Had several in Glossop  way many years ago on way back to Sheffield. Guy from Cora was in there with denim jacket who supported Man City.

Fair play, decent enough sort for a supporter of a Manc team. Beer was tripe though. Stones p1ssed all over it.
Report Tiger Tiger July 31, 2021 12:15 AM BST
Stones was a decent beer in its day, Sheffield brew wasn't it?
Report Tiger Tiger July 31, 2021 12:22 AM BST
Doombar has picked me Strawberry Rock in the 3.20, has maybe improved 3 to 4, won a better race last time out, 3.5 was fair enough and I'll have some in the place market nearer the off.

Dream Composer in the 4.02 ran a cracker at Royal Ascot in a Class 2, looked to be the winner if there was another 100 yards to go, down slightly in class with better going and back to 6 furlongs might do the trick, 11/4 taken and will go into the place market on Betfair, two places, nearer the off.

Real Ale is for men, lager is for girls.

Can't believe that anybody buys the insipid swill that carries the Boddington name nowadays. Once they moved the brewing from Strangeways (which had it's own spring water supply, that just cannot be replicated), it was a totally different drink. Where I grew up, we were lucky to have many many pubs which served proper cask Boddies, there was just nothing like it, an acquired taste I'll grant you, but never forgotten. Happy memories also of taking a four-pint "Bodkan" to teenage parties in the late 70's. (Like a "Party Four" but actually drinkable).

There are a few pubs in Manchester that still sell boddingtons also a few n the outskirts, premier inn use to sell it throughout the country.

Regarding stones it was served on from a pump in some pubs

Can anybody remember who fronted the advertising for stones ?

I think the 'spring water' thing was a ruse, probably came from the Irwell which is famed for having more shopping trolleys than Tesco.
