Clerk of course needs to come out and explain why 17mm of rain leads to abandonment. They abandoned a few years back due to crossings over course being too wet...don’t seem to have learned from that...ridiculous.
Report jimnast June 25, 2021 9:20 AM BST
manyana was that the day they abandoned during racing ?

lead on was it you who mentioned backing peacetime in the 82 derby on the other thread ?
Report manyana June 25, 2021 9:29 AM BST
Yes it was.

They’ve either overwatered or they are unprepared.

Yes it was...I'd backed Peacetime and Jalmood over the winter and spring...turning for home I though for a brief second that Peacetime might win..then saw Pat Eddery making his move...
Report jimnast June 25, 2021 9:39 AM BST
i also backed peacetime over the winter and like you for those few seconds i thought he might win, back then i had a friend who worked at beckhampton he to had backed the horse throughout the winter, funny how you can remember what you backed almost 40 years ago yet struggle to remember what you backed last week.

not sure what happened to peacetime after the derby .

do you remember to special double william hill were offering for derby day 1982 ?
Report jimnast June 25, 2021 9:41 AM BST

one thing for sure they did not get as much rain as ascot got last thursday night friday .

I remember Jalmood won the Scottish Derby or similar race at Ayr the next month...I can't remember what Peacetime did...Was the Hill's offer something to do with the Falklands?
Report jimnast June 25, 2021 9:49 AM BST
yes it was ,shortly before the derby golden fleece had a setback and because of the falklands there was a doubt about the pope coming to england so hills had a special double for both been in england on derby day,
Report jimnast June 25, 2021 9:53 AM BST
cauthen rode jalmood to win the scottish derby, probably the best horse to win that race which ceased in 2005.

That was on the Monday,I'm pretty sure...SP of 7/4 rings a bell but that could be selective memory playing tricks...I remember watching Beneficial winning that race but it must have been open to 4 y.o's then as he'd won at Royal Ascot the previous year

From Racehorses of 1982, they report that Peacetime had been hobdayed over the winter after making a noise during the Houghton Stakes. A week or so after the Derby, Jeremy Tree gave an interview to Timeform and they quote him in the annual as saying 'a horse who has been hobdayed. however successfully, will always be found out in in top class company'.

After again fading  in the Eclipse having looked a threat, he had a soft palate operation, before going on to win a slowly run Listed race at Goodwood.

As a 4-y-old, he was a well beaten third in the Earl of Sefton, wearing a tongue tie, but never raced again. He went to stud in South Africa.

They have had no more rain than we have in Lancashire and my lawn is rock hard.

Self inflicted.

Report lead on June 25, 2021 4:23 PM BST
Sunday's meeting will be more profitable for them than today's would have been ,I imagine.I'm sure that was taken into considerationWink
Report jimnast June 25, 2021 5:20 PM BST
