What's happened to this fast draining track blah blah blah.....
Report shoodacoodadidnt June 18, 2021 9:56 AM BST
it has been seriously chucking it down - I'm near south coast and some of the heaviest and most sustained rain I've ever seen - and I'm Scottish!! :D
Report differentdrum June 18, 2021 9:57 AM BST
Is it waterlogged? Surely heavy ground is safe?
Report driver2 June 18, 2021 9:58 AM BST
Got to be odds against racing at Ascot today. The rain doesn't look like stopping and there is already standing water on the track. Swinley Bottom's going to be the biggest problem.

Puddles on course with persistent rain so yes start of waterlog.

If it is off - let's hope not - then surely the obvious solution is to transfer today's card to Sunday with all the runners who haven't been taken at the time of the decision. Same markets with Rule 4's. If Saturday is raceable you would expect Sunday to be raceable.
Report barstool June 18, 2021 10:30 AM BST
Could always put the card back an hour or so if there is a chance of fair weather later.
Report Deptford June 18, 2021 10:37 AM BST
The going is soft, it's still raining and the non-runners are beginning to pile up.

I have seen one tweet suggesting that there could be an inspection at Royal Ascot with standing water on the track but the above was posted by the track just a few moments ago and there's no mention of such a possibility from Chris Stickels so fingers crossed.

Report Callisto-moon June 18, 2021 10:51 AM BST
Thers sweet fa chance that they call it off!
Report differentdrum June 18, 2021 10:51 AM BST
Those pulling out should definitely not be given another chance should it be re-staged. That should be the consequence, no second chance. Might make them think before pulling the plug.

There is a risk to racing,' says Royal Ascot clerk after deluge of rain.

I live about 20 miles away and been raining heavily since I got up and an absolute deluge atm.
Report jimjoelsdog June 18, 2021 10:57 AM BST
Transfer the card to Redcar . The oasis of beauty with the backdrop of the steelworks.
Report Storm Alert June 18, 2021 11:48 AM BST
Day four of Royal Ascot must pass a 12.45pm inspection following a deluge of rain overnight and through Friday morning.

Still tipping down where I live, big chance it will off...
Report penzance June 18, 2021 11:57 AM BST

Tomorrows crowd could see 10 races.

Banging on about horse safety , how is it more unsafe for horses to run on heavy going ?
Report casemoney June 18, 2021 12:38 PM BST
And WTF is a false patch ?

Track looks ok to me  worse way heavy going whats the problem ?
Report Jumping-cuckoo-monk June 18, 2021 12:51 PM BST
ive got a feeling they've okayed the straight course.
they wouldn't bother checking the round course as they are atm if the straight had been ruled out ?
Report SlippyBlue June 18, 2021 12:54 PM BST
My hunch is that it'll get the green light.
Report casemoney June 18, 2021 12:54 PM BST
3 options as it stands at Ascot
1 Racing goes ahead as planned (inspection 12.45)
2 Racing goes ahead on straight course with 5-race card inc Coronation Stakes moved to straight track (2 lost races go to Sat)
3 Racing off today & 10-race card Sat inc  Coronation, Comm, KE VII
Report casemoney June 18, 2021 12:56 PM BST
No guarantee course will be any better tomorrow
Report casemoney June 18, 2021 12:57 PM BST
Then running 10 races on it , that should help Laugh
Report barstool June 18, 2021 12:58 PM BST
Low sun, heavy ground, slippery bends, foot holes, blocked drains etc, sadly all part and parcel of racing these days. Everyone is risk averse now for fear of being sued.

Hence it takes a committee to make a decision. In the "old" days we took what God gave us and got on with it. It is a great pity, imo, but they wont take any chances now.

Racing is just reflecting the world we live in. Like it or not.
Report JJmbe June 18, 2021 12:58 PM BST
Looked like stickels was pacing out where the rail could be realigned to then, fingers crossed.
Report kevinglass June 18, 2021 12:59 PM BST
2 hours more rain to the first race on the bend. Safer to just run in a straight line, in case it really hammers down.
Report casemoney June 18, 2021 1:00 PM BST
Races unsuspended
Report casemoney June 18, 2021 1:02 PM BST
Worse way they should run the 5 on the straight today  absolutely no reason not to  as stated course could be worse tomorrow  ,infact will be worse as starts to dry
