Mukhadram won the Eclipse as a 5-y-o.

Supreme Leader was 2nd in the Wood Ditton. The horse that beat him ran at the Chester May meeting but broke down badly.

Meadowville beat Pembroke Castle in 1970 with 8 lengths back to the 3rd in a 27-runner field. Meadowville chased home Nijinsky in the Irish Derby and St Leger, having been 5th at Epsom. Pembroke Castle was a G2/G3 horse over 10f.

Hopeful Venture won it 1967 and was 2nd in the St Leger, and won the Hardwicke at 4.

Canisbay won it 1964 and won the Eclipse at 4.

Pinturischio won it at 2/5 in 1961 and became a notorious doping case. He was 4th in the Guineas at 7/4 but never ran again, having been got at twice.

I remember thinking Armada of Guy Harwood's had to be a superstar from the way he won it in the mid 8o's - he wasn't.

Imperial Prince won it in 1974 and came 2nd in both the English and Irish Derbies. Doubly Sure ran in the race (went off 3/1 2nd fav), was unplaced, but became the dam of Kris, Diesis, Keen and Rudimentary.

Swiss Maid was supposed to run it in 1978, but she wouldn't go into the stalls - she won the Sun Chariot and Champion Stakes.

I remember coming home from Devon & Exeter or Newton Abbot on the train with Eddie Fremantle one afternoon thirty years ago. We were looking through the next day's decs in the Express & Echo, when he spotted it was the Wood Ditton the next day.

"We'd better make sure we watch that."
"What for?"
"Well, they'll all be running here in August, won't they."

Think English Prince won the wood Ditton in the 70s, went on to run in some very good races.
Report ged April 13, 2021 3:35 PM BST
English Prince made his racecourse debut as a 3yo at Newbury, on the Saturday of the Greenham (he was 2nd at 5/4). He won at Royal Ascot, and then beat Imperial Prince in the Irish Derby. The 2 colts were owned by the Hue-Williamses. One ran in Roger's colours, one in Vera's. So one ran in scarlet with a white chevron, the other in white with a scarlet chevron.
