Piece by David Jennings in the RP today.

According to Jennings, "McCoy seems to be stuck in the past"..."he is not yet a wonderful pundit".

"Walsh wants to be the best pundit of all time. He has moved on." "He wants punditry to evolve".

It comes across as Walsh being portrayed as the all-knowing sage, while McCoy lacks the modern analytical punditry skills of his old friend and rival.

And what's this based on? Two points of discussion from Aintree, Tiger Roll being compared to Red Rum, and Rachael Blackmore's UR / falling off Jason The Militant.

Personally, I couldn't fault McCoy's views on either subject, without disrespecting Tiger Roll, he said he didn't think he could be compared to Red Rum, given the modifications that have been made to the course and the fact that Red Rum went round five times, winning three and finishing second twice.

And what McCoy said regarding the Jason The Militant, were probably the thoughts of many judging by comments on here.

Perhaps there's a little bit of "interviewer bias" going on here, because Jennings refers to to an interview Walsh did with him back in February. Who knows, perhaps that interview left Jennings awe struck and star struck and in his eyes Ruby is da man!

Jennings is right. Ruby the pundit, Ruby the analyst, is head and shoulders above everyone else, including AP.

What is odd is that when he was riding, AP's Telegraph column was informative. Maybe that is because AP was more engaged or because his ghost writer asked better questions. But perhaps AP is a better pre-race judge. Is anyone counting their tips?

both would starve if finding winners was their only way of buying food

what has become apparent is that kevin blake is in a different league to anything present or past

Agree with chavman although back in the day Martin Julian was very very good.

AP brings nothing to the table. He seems like he is doing everyone a favour by being they.Even when asked which one of JPs he would ride he couldnt answer.ITV would be better off if he wasnt they.Ruby is brilliant.Kevin Blake seems to be the only one who puts the work in and tips winners.

ruby and mccoy both pretty much said the same about blackmore but ruby was more eloquent so comes over as the good guy

as ive said elsewhere walsh over does the relevance of tactics in a race ,theres a dozen ways to skin a cat in every race and even IF Walsh finds what he thinks in hindsight were the wrong tactics he doesnt no if on the day those tactics were used by design, accident or poor execution

half the racecourse at chelt/aintree given over to irish connections to form a bubble, walsh on his own in a studio broadcasting, anyone notice on tv a AP MCOY without a mask going over to give blackmore a cuddle/hug.kiss before presentation

It does not seem that long ago that AP was opposed to professional female riders!

AP as a pundit hardly puts a smile on your face; miserable as feck. Ruby knows his stuff his pre race analysis of Thyme Hill vs Paisley Park Ascot race was spot on.

fook me paisley park or thyme hill at aintree on good ground after one had hard race at chelt and one didnt, opening the cornflake box was more taxing

No doubt Jennings will be cosying up to Walsh on a regular basis back home so no surprise with his comments, agree with both McCoy comments,it's a glorified cross country race now.

Somebody needs to be there to wind up Chamberlin and his fast show 'its brilliant!' shtick.

AP has a dry sense of humour.. but fair play to him yesterday. Ed C was ready to go way overboard in the aftermath of Rachael's historic win until McCoy turned to De Bromhead and said something along the lines of 'dont worry henry it will be your turn soon'.
Liked that
Really cut through all the bs.

Think what Jennings may have been hinting at re wanting punditry to evolve is that Ruby has no problem calling a poor ride. However it's hard to take Jennings himself serious as a punter when he thinks he's an expert on practically every sport.

both find picking winners tough....both would put you in the workhouse if you followed their selections...Ch4 employed Tom Segal ITV we are stuck with fitzy mccoy and harvey...these 3 are proof ex jockeys don't make good pundits

walsh favours mullins horses
fitz hendo
mcoy JP
megan pumpkin
harvey williams

and their selections are biased towards these yards

baldy dixon put a few winners up last week as horses he said he,d bet HOMETOWN BOY one of them

baldy dixon is definitely the better of the 2 brothers....the other admitted he could not win punting ....he said he needed the security of his numerous jobs
