Certainly shoudn't cancel as he himself only wanted a quiet funeral and he was 99.
Diana was a young woman who died in dreadful circumstances...the situations are quite different.

All meetings to start in around 11.00 and finish circa 2.45 odd.

That's not good news ,if it's left to the BHA they'll likely make the wrong decision.

Prince Philip would have surely said ... 'Carry on with what you are dong - don't bother about me'

3pm on a Saturday is a daft time for a royal funeral ,it would have been better to hold it at 11am.Perhaps the Archbishop of Canterbury already had an 11 o'clock in his diary.

Agreed - portmanpark

Had he not been restricted by his duty to serve  ... He would have been an undoubted serious success art whatever he chose to do ... probably in something like Research and Development, amongst other interests.

The Curragh has races at 14.35 and 15.10. No reason why the 14.25 Champion Hurdle and 15.35 Scottish Grand National  at Ayr can't go ahead .

Very privileged life and lifestyle. Service to the queen/country/commonwealth sure but plenty of spare time to make the most of life including some fabulous holidays. Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme his lasting legacy.

I don't see how they can run the Scottish GN during the funeral.

As I mentioned earlier 3pm on a Saturday is a ridiculous time for such a funeral and I suspect the bha will just cancel the day's racing programme.

At least they don't need to worry about crowds etc. at the moment.

It does seem likely although I noticed that the Queen's horses ran over the weekend and more are declared today and tomorrow and entered next week. If other sports cancel, racing will have to follow suit.

His father was a Greek prince while his mother was a great granddaughter of Queen Victoria. The European royal families were so inter married in the 19th and early 20th centuries that it was hard to say what their nationality was. If the qualification rules for football and Rugby were applied then he could have played for about 6 countries! He has lived in GB since childhood which is good enough for me.
