No not someone getting lucky with an acca.Bet365 boss Denise Coates has taken home Britain's biggest ever salary as part of a package totalling almost £470m last year - about the same as the combined pay for all FTSE 100 chief executives. Where does that  money come from? Can't be from people on here as we are all shrewdiesGrin

She's above and beyond all the other head honchos in her industry put together. Well deserved. At least most of the profit went her way, not some undeserving shareholders who'd done no work. Bet365 is her family's baby.

No doubt this colossal figure is from punters in America and rest of the world from casino games and slots.

In fairness she pays her dues in taxes as well. Not an offshore dodger.
#The family contributed £573 million pounds last year to the treasury.

Still the mind boggles why they wont tAKE A FIVER BET OFF MANY OF US.

The answer is simple , a shrewd business model designed to accommodate punters who can contribute to that enormous treasury sum.

There is so much variation of business models out there and having acquired knowledge of the vast majority via contacts it's no wonder some of them have to knee jerk to make ends meet.

Hats off to a shrewd business woman   Happy

Bet365 has the best user interface of all the big bookmaker sites, at least for racing. It is quick and uncluttered. Of course there are tweaks I wish they'd make but it is far better than any of the others which are typically either slow or constantly trying to push casino games on you.

Now with the toothless Gambling Commission and BHA head honchos (tweedle-dee and tweedle-dum) gone let's hope post affordability review the industry could adopt something similar to Australia where every horse racing punter is accommodated an agreed minimum amount regardless. Otherwise, every bookie on the high street cannot have fobt on site.

@howard re never beating the price -- is that code for filthy arbers? Cool

But all this is probably old-fashioned. See the Entain thread and the press release therein about using artificial intelligence (AI) to classify customers. I expect we'll see more of that with bookies looking to steer clear of addicts who might get them a million pound fine for encouraging them, and at the opposite end, sharks and shrewdies. Nothing personal but computer says no.

All the gambling charities, pretend caring groups, restrictions of affordability are all complete utter bull5hit and B3p's profits just confirm that.

Fair play to the woman

The only thing I’d question is why racing is on its arse?

yet these bookmakers are making think she’s made 473 million for herself and paid 1/2 billion in tax, racing surely contributes plenty to the profit, so why isn’t a percentage taken to go back into racing??

Surely the percentages and contributions to racing are a mile out?

Report Carveth April 1, 2021 9:07 AM BST
(Responding to Harry's post) The main stakeholders are struggling to agree on horseracing’s future and have been for some time now. This gets brought up time and time again in the racing media. The sport needs independent scrutiny otherwise it'll continue to fall into a mire with vested interests just squabbling between themselves. What is needed is a strong evidence base so that intrenched views can be challenged. From what I can gather so far, it’s not there. For example, do we know what happens to every racehorse from "cradle to grave"? How much financial information could be obtained from betting companies in a sufficiently disaggregated form for it to be useful? How much money comes back into racing and how is it distributed? You start to realise things are not as they should be when a rehoming charity like the Racehorse Sanctuary sends out a twitter message on the 16th March, during the Cheltenham festival, but doesn't see a surge in donations to their JustGiving winter covid appeal.(They also had a Reliant on Racing slot on ITV racing which would have been viewed by a large audience). The Wellchild sponsorship at the Cheltenham festival, which raised £200,000, was a wonderful idea but this should not distract from the truth.

I think it’s time to separate the regulator the BHA and the finances of the sport carveth tbh

A separate body that looks after the finances and looks into bookmakers gains really needs addressing?

People say the french model of a tote take out isn’t good but at least it fund’s the sport...Australia works on a tab system that once again goes back into racing...some of the greyhound races in Australia are worth more than British races and that’s day to it’s clear the sport is being raped by the betting firms, that is clear because of the profits these companies are making

I mean bet 365 have basically made over a billion pounds, it is a needs to know exactly how much of these profits are made through horse racing...

The direct payments made to the levy per race isn’t good should be what are the yearly profits made from racing and the wealth should be spread more back into the sport...we wouldn’t end up with 4 runner races anymore if the racing is sustainable and the bookmakers would make more on turnover, they are just diluting the product as people now take the good horses abroad as they have had enough of the poultry prize money

Looking at the french, you can’t tell me they make nearly the turnover on their racing, yet its competitive because the prize money is good...

These profits bet 365 are making just shows how little these bookmakers contribute to any sport they take bets on
Report GAZO April 1, 2021 10:15 AM BST
if the tote wasnt greedy it could be very strong,it needs to cut the take out and then advertise how many times they beat sp,just like how betfair started and then they might get more ordinary and bigger staking punters using it,at present i suspect the bigger stake punters only really get involved in the scoop 6 and jackpot and even then only after a few rollovers
Report revs April 1, 2021 10:15 AM BST
pure greed..I'd say trading standards need to look into these firms that class themselves as bookmakers.  They don't make books anymore, they copy the odds from betfair, add their margin, and ban anyone that shows "potential" to squeeze a little profit.  Her wealth is the result of exploiting desperate, ill-informed punters, some of which, have serious gambling problems.  Disgusting firm!

I think the point is missed here tbh...if bet 365 are making over a billion a year...what is the take out from horse racing? And what percentage of that profit goes towards horse racing?

Why can we not have the figures?

None of it makes any sense to me...

If I worked at the BHA I’d have to question why the sport is on its arse and not thriving when I see these profits...government intervention and a separation is needed for the sport to progress
