punter stands to collect more than £500,000 from a £5 bet if hot favourite Envoi Allen wins at the Cheltenham Festival on Thursday.

Paul Dean has seen four legs of his five-horse accumulator triumph.

Now he has been offered the chance to cash out for £275,000 regardless of the final result.

"He told me he won't be able to sleep tonight. I'd say that's a massive understatement," said Betfair spokesman Barry Orr on Wednesday.

Dean's winning run began with two winners at Royal Ascot nine months ago, and two more have followed at Cheltenham this week as he closes on a potential payday of £511,225.

''He could take the cash out offer and sit back safe in the knowledge that regardless of what happens in the race he is £275,000 better off," said Orr.

"Alternatively, he can reject the offer and hope Envoi Allen beats his seven opponents and also safely negotiates the 16 fences to land his incredible bet.

''Envoi Allen is 4-9 favourite so he may well stick and let the bet run.''

The winners so far:
Golden Horde (12-1) - Won Commonwealth Cup, Ascot, 19 June 2020

Hello Youmzain (10-1) - Won Diamond Jubilee Stakes, Ascot, 20 June 2020

Shishkin (4-1) Won Arkle Chase, Cheltenham, 16 March 2021

Bob Olinger (25-1) Won Ballymore Novices' Hurdle, Cheltenham, 17 March 2021

Waiting on:
Envoi Allen (4-1) - ??? Marsh Novices' Chase, Cheltenham, 18 March

Just like the one on here last night it doesn't add up, for a five pound acca he's got 90+K running on, even aside from the fact that it's an odds on shot now they wouldn't be offering him that amount.

Cash out half? Question is how much it would affect his life. Is £500,000 twice as significant as £250,000?

It is possible Envoi Allen might shorten up tomorrow morning which might increase the cash out offer.

Good luck to the bloke.

Absolutely: the old chestnut about "why put the last one in if you were going to cash out" doesn't apply here at all, because the value is generated by the fact it was 4s then and 2s on now.  Cash out all day long.  Festival novices' chase all sorts of silly things can and do happen.  You would have to be considerably richer than me not to grab the 275K without a moment's thought.

snatch thier bollax off for that offer ! think its a bookies pr stunt tbh

When: 17 Mar 21 19:23
^^^duffy they will offer him what he would need to stake at the current price less their bit.  So if it is a genuine 2s on shot that 333K minus their 'bit' which is 58K.

That lets them lay the liability and lock in a big profit.

It has nothing to do with what is 'running on' at the original odds.

If it is genuine???? another thing to consider is this,

Would you want so much running on with a horse like Asterion Forlonge lining up alongside your horse....NO THANKS

Plus he's had a fiver on it, he'd take that offer all day long....but I don't believe it so it's all moot.Grin

muse,

That's the doing it by the book routine, but this is deal or no deal and a temptation to a small gambler as this appears to be would make the offer much lower

"Future Racing bets are subject to a maximum payment of £250,000" From Betfair T&cs ..That's why I use 365 and Hills for my crazy £1 million ante post multibets Crazy

So he won't be getting half a million or the cash out amount if bet is true

@giggitygiggity re max payout -- Barry Orr said the punter had been in touch to check the payout and Betfair confirmed they'd pay the full amount.

@glentoby -- my guess is the low Betfair limit is from the old days when Betfair was running on a shoestring. £500k is peanuts to Paddy Power (who now own Betfair). Check the T&Cs for updated limits in a week or so imo.
