Maybe Pablo, i thought there were 2 sections of rails and 2 large gaps, layout looked a bit confusing to me on one replay, saying that everyone should know where they are going.

041G TRI Superstore (Pro-Am) INH Flat Race Mr A.P. Fahey, rider of Lake Winnipesaukee trained by P.G. Fahey, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his saddle had slightly slipped forward during this race.
The Stewards interviewed Mr A.P. Fahey, rider of Lake Winnipesaukee, trained by P.G. Fahey, concerning the fact that he had left the Flat race track and taken the steeplechase course before the home turn this being the wrong course. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that his saddle had slipped forward, that his mount had been too strong to ride and through a lack of energy he was unable to steer his mount around the final bend on the correct course. Having viewed the recording and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr. A.P. Fahey had been negligent by his misjudgement of the correct course for this race and therefore had failed to attain his best possible placing this being a breach of Rule 212 (A)(iv). Having taken his clean previous record into consideration, the Stewards suspended Mr. A.P. Fahey for 14 racedays. Furthermore they reminded Mr. A.P. Fahey of his responsibility to report anything that may have affected his mounts performance in accordance with the provisions of Rule 213.

And they believed that statement? Fook me no wonder the game is in such a mess. He panicked because he was so far clear and today was not the day. He looked round and must have thought exactly the same as Alec Guiness in Bridge On The River Kwai, what have I done?

I don't think he took the wrong course.... I'm looking at the rule book and it says
"Continuous plastic rail is the most effective method of indicating the course to be followed except where it is impractical to do so, eg; Starts where a chute is used or at track intersections. Where ground conditions render this method impracticable an alternative method must be used which should consist of plastic rail set at an angle to the course to indicate quite clearly the course to be followed but in such cases continuous plastic rail must still be used on bends and in the last furlong. It is no longer permissible to use single stakes as “dolls”."
Unless I'm very much mistaken he was on the bend and there was no continuous rail.....
Also he can go as wide as he likes.... and if he wanted, jump the fence. Nothing in the rule book that says you cannot jump fences while running in a bumper/I.N.H. Flat race.

There was a marker where the rail split the course between the flat and chase course, the rider never stated that he was confused at which way to go but instead said his saddle slipped and that he hadn't the strength to get the horse to go around the bend.

Orange wing marker was in place...

I don't see anything in the IHRB rules that defines the boundary of the course on the outside....
Maybe some of the learnēd people on here can shed some light on it.
certainly nothing about an orange wing marker

so they followed the shortest route Mullins Codd, Hamilton, are veteran jockeys, I'd expect them to do that.
Nothing in the rules that says Fahey had to go the shortest route. His saddle slipped as well.
Stewards are wrong on this one.
