No problem with connections landing gambles but its the way that all 3 have been campaigned. I wonder who makes up the "The Welly Wobblers Club" Cue a horse named Welly Wobbler coming to a racecourse near you, once they've been paid out.

I takey our point withe the first one WP and the way it won, the second was a bit different, course winner well handicapped, the third one has still to win

I can't believe you just said that about that Southwell winner dealer.

I remember joining in on one about six or seven years ago. Pretty sure it was a Friday night and Cheltenham Gold Cup day. I got some pretty fancy prices at a local independent compared to online prices available. The first one burst out of the stalls and led for a short while, before being headed along way from home, and finished last.
You could have any price you wanted on the remaining three horses after that!

you can tell things like this were started by rich and well connected people because its called a coup,if things like this was pulled off by poor people it would be called cheating

In the end, probably not too bad a result, the double on the 1st 2 has put the perps in profit and the levy board doesn't have to suffer too much from bookmakers' losses, which can only benefit racing. And an interesting day was had by all.

I assume that is mortgage paid with the double and the partial lay off https://m.facebook.com/itvborder/videos/daragh-bourke-youngest-horse-trainer...

Yeah, you wouldn't cash out for that. I just assumed they would offer a decent cash out amount, what with their liabilities and the horse almost odds on before the off.

How can that cash out offer be right? Just did the math and the potential payout would be £81,000 if it was an £16.50 EW treble? Even if it was £4.00 EW Trixie, surely the offer would be a lot more seeing as the first 2 would pay £676.00 and you have 30s about an Even money chance?

WP, it had to have been after 1 whatever the bet. Cash Outs are another disgrace that should be investigated. I had a bet yesterday paying over £450 and they were offering in-running £280 as it was crossing the line in front by 3l. I think it really should be renamed Catch Out because that's all it's really doing to ill-informed punters who see the £££s but have no idea how badly they are being ripped off.

Certainly agree with you about Cash outs being bad value. But I've had bets with B365 and their Cash out offers were basically for the amount I'd won on the first 2 legs with a little knocked off(less then 5%). They would also offer more than you'd won on the first 2 legs if your final selection happened to get backed down from the price you had about it. The above slip must be after one winner. I've worked out what you'd get for a £4.00 EW trixie with the last leg going off 4/5.....the cash out offer for the bet MUST have been 5 figures after the first 2 won. So, back to my point, some bets were probably cashed out and some left to run.

You'd get paid out £2.168.60 without the 3 R4's if you had the last leg at SP. You wouldn't be much of a bookmaker if you didn't offer a decent 5 figure cash out.

Note the first leg trainer move was from Daragh Bourke to L J Morgan and the last leg was trained by Daragh Bourke ...... let's see if anyone can join up any dots. If you think you have ANY chance at this game without the inside track ...... bingo

Anybody else think that the whole "coup' was actually a massive PR stunt dreamt up by the bookie PR reps and that there were no liabilities outside the norm?

thats what jonjo and mcmanus do all the time, but again this gets exposed as doing it with low grade hcappers, coolmore do it with maidens and hopeless cases winning group1s

Quite pleased the treble went down. Shame any of them won. I am surprised those within the industry are at pains to highlight this sort of thing because it makes the sport look a joke. I like to see bookmakers lose but not at the expense of punters who actually think it is worth studying form.

I agree with dd, This kind of stuff is all good fun and of huge interest, and is of course only the extreme end of "handicapping". BUT this will never end, all the time folks on here and elsewhere think it is good for racing; prize money makes it profitable to c heat, and the authorities take little or ineffective action.

blackbarn, this kind of stuff happens everyday in low grade racing, all these people are guilty of is trying to get 3 horses ready for a bigger payout.

Thankfully, what happened yesterday doesn't go on every day. If it did perhaps you can point to examples of three horses shortening in that way? Basically, you are defending deception and the idea of the vast majority being deliberately shafted by those 'in the know'.

What I’m surprised at is that so many bets across several bookmakers were struck.
According to one account (VC guy) “they woke up to the bad news on Sunday morning”
Seems a little dangerous.
I mean no warning system to flag something like this? No communication with other bookmakers?
This is something they need to tackle themselves (I’m talking about the bets and not the handicapping mechanics) else they just leave themselves open to being targeted again.

trance as hit the nail on the head here forget the plot horses trainers they,ll blab on, on the media how difficult it is to get hores right on same day, entriues.find races, money on etc, etc, so imagine your luck at achieving all that, and what would have been without the plot horse 3 favs as it was 3 2nd favs never put in any of the 3 races with a chance of winning from when the flag went up,and all 3 with same pre writtrewn script never went a yard, off day its connections of those 3 horses that should be dragged over the carpet

Mongan - nothing to do with me we saw the gamble but nothing to do with us - check
Jardine - we seen the odds shorten on Sat night - but thought is didnt concern us - check
Bourke - nothing to do with me guv - check (ok made last one up) but its more or less what he would say
the authorities should be scrutinising everything, all stables, betting patterns etc as it brings integrity into serious question not that we didnt know that before but it could well happen on a more regular basis, but spare me any tears for/from bookies who willingly lay horses day in day out who they know wont win in advance and woe betide anyone who actually wins of course, just mugs money please...

'In the old days' - Before all this INTERNET PUNTING - These bets would have had to be done 'around the shops' - in Gay Future Coup style.
With the last leg Losing - and just a Double landed - The whole punt could/would have probably gone under the radar - As ...
For a start - The horses would NOT have shortened up to anything like as short as they did yesterday - That happened simply because of the current Internet and digital communication.
The 'word would NOT be out'.
The bets would not have/or barely come to light - But still lay dormant - until a few Settlers in just a few shops thought ....
'Better ring through to Regional/Head Office and tell them that I got a 3 Doubles and a Treble 'running on' from that first race Winner .... at 20/1 .......... NOT - EVENS.

Just a note on cashouts in the thread. I had £50 John Rahm in the Farmers Golf with B £3.65, taking 7/1. When he had shortened to 3/1 in running, (their price), they offered me £22 for the Cashout.... really tempting!

none of the betting excuses, explains 3 paper favs /3 2nd favs basically beaten ,never put in the race for a yard, the so called 20,000 to 1 odds of coup were small fry compared to the odds of 3 favs before[ coup horses] all beaten after a yard,
