Boffins looked at seven years of banking data from six and a half million Lloyds customers and found gamblers are more likely to lose their jobs, stay up all night and die. Luckily I bank with Nat West so I'm all right.

It is all good fun but this report will probably form some sort of evidence in the debate over gambling restrictions.

Perhaps slightly counterintuitive is that gamblers spend less on booze, whether in bars or off-licences.

I been made redundant 3 times, drink like a fish and gamble every minute.  Only thing saving me is I am not with Lloyds

Strange how they don't have a taskforce looking into people using too much of their  disposable income into recreational and class A drugs.Which causes far more harm across society.

Child Poverty Action Group (CAPG) ran a report to find the average total of having children in 2019. They found that up to the age of 18, the cost of raising a child in a single parent family costs a staggering £185,000 compared to £151,000 for couples.

Not sure about that Ram, I love to have a can at hand when I'm in here, I don't go mad of course, but it DOES it enhance the gambling experience imo.

The most surprising thing about that is that the most incompetent bank in the UK, still has six and half million customers.

Looks possible that if you have unmanageable debt levels, and your bank has the evidence to prove you are gambling heavily, your days could well and truly numbered.

Big Brother will intervene to ascertain whether medical records indicate you have a mental disorder (history of depression) and evidence of substance abuse or alcohol abuse.

Branded as having a pathological disorder and a threat to your family, workplace and Government you'll be shipped off to an internment camp for 'treatment'.

Remember, bet responsibly...and

switch to Nat West LaughLaugh

Would make a snappy advertising slogan:

"When the fun stops, stay up all night and die"

Everything is bad for you apart from sitting in a chair for 9 hours, walking or gentle exercise for one hour, sleeping for 8 hours and eating a carefully controlled diet for 2 hours. That leaves 4 hours for betting and investing on the markets. Sounds about right apart from the diet. I eat butter as I hate spreads, red meat at least 3 times a week and have sugar in my coffee. Still here amazingly. I have never lost a job, rarely stay up after 9.30pm and have not yet died so far as I know. We are all going to die once and this nonsense about why we die is such tosh. Apart from accidents, all of the things we are told not to do only keep us alive for an extra year or two. What is the point of that?

It's all in the genes imo.

Not quite. If you were locked in a room and fed on fatty foods you would probably die earlier but it is mainly true. I have been roughly the same weight for 50 years. If I don't get my exercise, I don't feel hungry.

Yes, but forced to live under  those conditions, some would die sooner than others I think.

It's mostly about bad diet (obesity, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, type II diabetes. I would have that as number one with smoking a close 2nd and then genes bios. The rest much less important. There was an interesting paper some years ago where they had a stab at calculating how discretionary activities took reduced file expectancy. It was along the lines of smoking a cigarette -1min, eating a takeaway curry/chinese -1week, etc etc.

TOTAL RUBBISH- No matter who you bank with or what you do, no one gets out of this life alive!

Probably not total rubbish. Just indicating what we already know about gamblers, they lead a full life and eventually wear their bodies out. When I go racing it's not the gambling, it's the beer and spirits and sitting in an Indian having a fat laden curry meal that's killing me (good fun though). My mum lived to 93, but my god the last 30 years were as boring as feck.

What about all the gamblers who eat properly take vit supplements, social distance, wear masks, keep their weight down & bank with Lloyds?

Reminds me of something Clement Frued once said about clean/healthy living, "You don't necessarily live longer, it just seems longer."
