Shiny shoes,

I started a new thread for 2 reasons.

1. The rules on the first page of the old thread were BFSP 8.00 which I quickly realised was far too risky if you got a couple of 7/1 winners close together, so I reduced it to 6.00.
Starting a new thread with the new simple rules clearly defined on the first page makes life easier for me.

2. It shuts the knockers up.

- It's bad enough that you felt the need to include your pretend (back-fitted) profit from your previous thread in the opening post of this supposedly "new thread" - but then you lasted 1 day and about 4 posts before you also posted the whole fictitious table from the old thread onto your new thread. It's not really a new thread at all now is it? If you keep referring to and including those fictional profits - it's just a continuation of the lie you were telling yourself on the old thread.

Like all the back-fitted "system" seekers - you just can't let go of that fictional pretend profit (back-fitted into weeks 1 to 3) can you? You are clinging to it like a limpet because it's the foundation of the lie that you are telling yourself and you know deep down that the whole lie just crumbles without that fictional (back-fitted) foundation.

I put it to you AGAIN that without the gains from the first three weeks (which are completely fictional because you back-fitted them) and with the deduction of commission - you are treading water. Which is exactly what you were told would happen when people very kindly back-fitted the past 10 years results for you!

Happy - I know you are playing all of these with cold hard cash (so you keep telling us!) - but you missed out Ouro Branco (15:35 Newbury) - it finished 2nd at 4/1 (BF SP 5.74). So that is another pretend £9.80 (sorry £10.00) that you can add to your spreadsheet.

Unfortunately some of the other mysterious missing horses from your (previous) spreadsheet (as you well know) are:

These all won during weeks 1-3 (on your spreadsheet) - you are still claiming a combined profit of £197.03 during weeks 1,2 & 3 but unfortunately if you deduct these (mysteriously missing) winners at BFSP they amount to a loss of £222.70. Giving you an overall loss of £25.67 during those first 3 weeks! - that is pretty different to what you are claiming!

I know you are going to tell me that you operate a "price limit" of 6.00 BFSP and these were all (only just) above that limit. However at the time they all won (i.e. during weeks 1,2 & 3) you were operating a "price limit" of 8.00 BFSP. You only changed that price limit to 6.00 in week 4 (after they had all won)! - it was actually this series of devastating loses that triggered you to do it! - You have back-fitted your filters to show a profit.

Can you still not not see it? - all you have done is looked at your spreadsheet - seen that after 4 weeks you were losing (quite badly) and then retrospectively you have (travelled back in time) and added a new filter to old races, in order to retain as many of your winnings bets as possible and filter out all of your biggest losses.

It's not unusual among "system chasers" - but please tell me you can see it! - It's bad enough if you really can't see it and are deceiving yourself - but you really shouldn't be deceiving other people (knowingly or not).

More than a little disingenuous.  To take this sort of contrivance to its logical conclusion you will eventually end up with a 100% winning lay system with criteria such as excluding horses with more than 4 vowels in their name and anything trained by someone whose surname begins in a T.

I have a spreadsheet containing a vast array of detail relating to all flat & AW Handicap winners (which I use for a completely different purpose!)

But I notice that if I distil it down to just the "hattrick seekers" during the period in question (with a view to laying them) - I can construct a healthy "profit" in countless ways (none of which have any merit whatsoever) by retrospectively applying some filters (i.e. Back-fitting!).

I can remove races with 12+ runners to "construct" a very healthy historic profit from laying hattrick seekers (because this removes a good few biggish priced winners without erasing too many losers). Alternatively even something so simple as filtering out races run on a Saturday! (again, this removes a good few bigger priced winners without erasing too many winning lays). Oh, and obviously (as Happy has done!) I can mess about with price limits until is "constructs" an optimal "profit".

Best of all though, I have just noticed (if backing to win - rather than laying) I can "construct" a massive profit if I only play hattrick seekers in historic races of less than one mile with 15+ runners - by jove I think I have cracked it! I have stumbled upon a backing "system" that will produce massive profits (loads of big priced winners and hardly any loser).

Do you think it matters that it only works for about 3 months and in races that have already been run!

I have a better system. I noticed that horses with a form like 115 often win the 4th race after a failed hat trick. You should backtest those horses to see if I'm right. The market gives then no respect after a failed hat trick.

The form figures are irrelevant - Form figures of 115 or 117 or 11 or even PFU - it matters not, it's ALL the same once you start manipulating it on a spreadsheet. If I looked at ANY of those form figures over 3 months of historic results and you let me apply just a couple of filters to those historic results - I could give you a multitude of winning (back betting) "systems". If you let me change the filters again (with exactly the same list of horses), I could give you a multitude of winning (lay betting) "systems".

That's nice - but all you have discovered is an historic holy grail! - but unfortunately it is just that - historic! - Will it work for the future? - Almost definitely not! You have just taken a load of unrelated random but completed events and manipulated them until you found what you were looking for. You have searched for filters that will maximise your winners and minimise your losers. It would be nice if you could do that in the real world (apply a filter after the races that makes most of your losing bets disappear) - but you can't!

I'm pretty confident I could turn any list of results into a goldmine with just one filter - but give me two filters and this time next year we'll be millionaires Rodney!

You can block me - I guess ignorance is bliss - but it doesn't change the REALITY!

Good news – just seen I have £7.56 left in my account of the £100 I put in on 8th October.
I had a total of 40 Lay bets (28 won 12 lost) on sheets 2 and 3 only to win £10 each time, I didn’t bet for real money on week 1
That’s all folks !!!

A few days later you returned with your new (price) "filter" - retrospectively airbrushed out about half a dozen losers and continued with the spreadsheet as though those winners never happened! On this thread you are still claiming huge profits in weeks 1 to 3 - but in reality you didn't even play week 1 and you went bust at the end of week 3.

I don't mind you fooling yourself or telling lies to yourself - but you shouldn't be deceiving other people imo.

After 3 weeks of laying at 8.00 and under on the original thread (and going bust doing it) - this is the moment when you started the back-fitting - applying new filters to historic results to manufacture a profit - by making the selections that bankrupted you disappear!

Could you do it with the “2 or more” left in but under BFSP 6 added ?
The reason I wish to know is, over the last 4 weeks reverting from  BFSP under 8 to 6 made a difference to P/L
Also leaving races with 2 or more selections was good for P/L.

There's very little difference happy from the 8.0 or less it's between 0.5 and 1% for the layers.
As has been mentioned it's not the worst starting point but it shouldn't be some sort of grail in the longer term.

I love that you can block me and pretend that you don't understand when I point out you are manipulating the data (after the event) to orchestrate a pretend profit - but when I point out that you have failed to spot one (that would have added to your pretend profit), you have no qualms whatsoever about adding it in 3 days after the race! - I suppose changing the selections after 3 days is at least a slight improvement upon doing it after 3 weeks!

I started this exercise as a bit of fun to get me through these dull days in lockdown and thought it would create a bit of interest for other punters.

I think I have been very open about what I have been doing and certainly haven’t intended to dupe or fool anyone.

I have been gambling for the best part of my 80 years and I certainly know there is no such thing as a Holy Grail. However this system has allowed me to have an interest in the racing most days and to bet in a way that does very little damage.

I will continue to do this for as long as my £200 Winter Fuel Allowance lasts and leave others to check out the results if they are so inclined, at the moment it would appear that The Management is the only person interested.

Happy - I wasn't having a dig at you. I have all the time in the world for anyone that puts up selections prior to the races, even more so if they keep a running P&L total and especially so if they keep it all on one thread!

You meet all of those criteria so I can read or choose not to read your thread quickly and easily. If everybody that puts up selections did the same, the forum would be a dream to navigate - it would be so much easier to read what you want to read and ignore/avoid what you want to ignore/avoid. Happy - as you well know I told you at the beginning (without having to check the historic data) that Laying Hattrick Seekers was a complete waste of time (financially). Other people that actually had(very kindly) checked the historic data) told you exactly the the same! - You can't really argue with 10 years worth of results imo - but you dismissed them.

So Laying Hattrick seekers was never of any interest to me whatsoever. However I am very happy to admit that I was enjoying some of the discussion with other (non-deluded posters) that the thread had stimulated. However you pretty much nixed all of that discussion at every opportunity by "taking offence" every time anybody questioned anything at all!

That aside, we both know that you layed these horses (below) - but that they have mysteriously disappeared from your records - in order that you can keep claiming a pretend profit. You have just airbrushed them away - even though laying them (for real money) by your own admission wiped you out!):

I genuinely hope you didn't continue Happy - Just the two Hattrick Seekers" running today - and Two winners:

For a combined loss on the day of -£54.07 and taking your week down to a loss of -£26.57

Hoping that you understand now that tinkering with past results until you find "rules" (filters) that will make them appear profitable (by filtering out the losers but retaining the winners) is not an approach that will ever translate to races that have yet to be run.

BTW - I'm sure you never meant to intentionally mislead anybody - but I think what you did to weeks 1,2 & 3 (tinkering with filters to exclude bad results - after the event) I think caused you to mislead yourself.

For completeness - and hopefully an end to this madness:

The sad thing is that without the retrospective tinkering with "a new price filter" applied retrospectively to weeks 1,2 & 3, your combined loss during weeks 1, 2 & 3 would have been about -£25.00 (rather than a faked profit of £197.03 that you manufactured after those races had already been run).

Given that weeks 4, 5 & 6 then also showed a loss (even by your own reckoning) of about -£72.00 combined - it seems to me that without the retrospective tinkering you would have been down about -£97.00 after 6 weeks - and would have knocked it on the head!

Hopefully a valuable lesson to anybody else that thinks they can cultivate a winning "system" for the future by retrospectively applying "filters" to historic events.

Why are you laying them then? I think the best way to deal with HSTs is back them all at early prices and let them run.

Fair enough Happy - so you are counting PTP races as well - rather than just races run under rules? That seems odd (that you are counting them) - because I haven't seen you playing any lay-bets in Point To Point races.

Another question: You are claiming Min (13:35 Leopardstown on Saturday) as a winning lay - it was pulled up (at BFSP of exactly 6.00) - but how did you know before the race that the BFSP would be 6.00 rather than 6.01? - The same question applies to all of your picks (or non-picks) trading in the range between 5.50 - 6.50 in the run up to race time? Are you guessing which way the market will move just before the off and also guessing as to the weight of money that has been left up at BFSP?

Its ok laying hattrick seekers , winners last time out , horses stepping up in class etc etc etc but there needs to be AT LEAST 2 horses in the field that can beat the lay selection .

Its no good if the competition against your lay consists of regressive horses or from stables massively out of form .

Each race has to be studied INDIVIDUALLY  .
