This is the first person who was a stranger to my life to seriously break my heart at their passing. I’m very sorry to anyone who has this awful illness in their family or friends and if I could would offer my deepest sympathy to those closest to pat.

Gutting. What a man. What a jockey. He will be irreplaceable.

Dreadful news. I remember reading that when he was a diagnosed a nurse advised him not to Google it. The prognosis is very bleak with this form of cancer and to think that when man started walking the moon most thought that fifty year’s on we’d have cures for all cancers.

A horrible disease & lets hope with science we will beat it someday
Pat raised a lot of money for cancer research & helped with fund raise drives for Cancer Trials Ireland ... that included an Irish Champions Weekend legends race which ultimately raised over 2.5m euros ..
Very sad news & thoughts with his family at this time

A sad loss.

We all know the phrase 'only the good die young' and in this case, it's true.

A good jockey and laid back family man taken away far too soon.

Thoughts with his family, terrible time for them.
They will take some solace though from his achievements and by all accounts, more importantly, the good man he was.

Report N-east Correspondent September 16, 2020 1:03 PM BST
Terrible news to wake up to, my thoughts are with his family, 43 far too young to be taken from them by such an insidious disease.
A fine jockey and a very nice man judging by tributes being paid around the globe. RIP Pat.

Haven't signed in for a few days and knew nothing of this news. As a punter in Irish racing he did me many favours. A superb jockey.

Dreadful news. I remember reading that when he was a diagnosed a nurse advised him not to Google it.

I watched a progamme on this particular cancer and it has a low if not the lowest survival rate. 6% IIRC. Not good odds and sadly most who are

diagnosed are told to go home and put their affairs in order.

A very sad loss. RIP Pat.
Report irishone September 18, 2020 5:24 AM BST
Will be fondly remembered by all horsey Galwegians. He knew Ballybrit inside out, no greater memory than watching him hit the front up the hill off the final bend, always in the right position, nearly always in the same spot on the track. D K was blessed, Galway was blessed .Sadly, sadly missed.I
Report irishone September 18, 2020 5:29 AM BST
When he was in stalls one to three over the seven furlongs he was a master of his trade, never let anyone beat him out the stalls, had the horse relaxed by the top of the hill, beautifully balanced leadown the hill, waiting waiting waiting , then pounced halfway round the bend. Master tactician and brilliant rider.
