i concur entirely..all very strange imo
Report pumphol. June 22, 2020 1:06 PM BST
Easy to think that way if you have not come across it at all, my friend caught it in March ( most likely going on the underground to work ) spent three weeks in intensive care before he died, hence I have a different perspective.
Report i_agree_with_nick June 22, 2020 1:10 PM BST
Only about one person in 1,700 is currently infected, so what you say is not surprising.

Estimates are that a total of around 3.5m people in the UK have had the virus, many of whom will have been asymptomatic.

On that basis, I don't think it's strange at all.
Report i_agree_with_nick June 22, 2020 1:12 PM BST
Sorry to hear that Pump.  I didn't read your post until after my comment.

Was that your friend from bowls?

Report i_agree_with_nick June 22, 2020 1:17 PM BST
I agree with Pumphol.

As I said, it's quite likely you won't have encountered the virus but I'm not sure what you're getting at.
Report pumphol. June 22, 2020 1:28 PM BST
Yes Nick, someone from bowls, won a pairs comp with him first three years we played in it together, still hard to get my head round it to be honest.

Seaside doesn't leave the seaside these days. And, lets face it, how many of the keyboard warriors on here ever leave their bedsits and socialise with the great unwashed?

Those of us who were at Cheltenham definitely experienced it. Our small group of 7 certainly did. 4 of us returned from the Cotswolds with it. Fortunately we chose to go into self isolation as soon as getting home just in case despite not yet showing symptoms. Within 4 days we were bedridden.

Thankfully all have survived, although my wife still has impaired lung function 3 months later.

The other half and I both had it, tested and confirmed. Know of at least another half dozen
that have had it as well. Had worse flus tbh but still wasn't pleasant
Report jamesdean June 22, 2020 2:13 PM BST
Sorry to hear that pumphol.
That is the scary thing about it, some who get it wont even notice they have it yet for
others it is fatal. It's certainly real and to be respected. Without the lockdown it wdve been horrifying
Report dustybin June 22, 2020 2:19 PM BST
It may still be serious
Very few virus pandemics have a single spike, look through history it hardly ever happens
Come winter if not sooner it could return, and this time theres no money left to bail out workers
Report Manoleeds June 22, 2020 2:24 PM BST
Lots of people I know who were under the weather from any time from November onwards "think" they had it but I don't know anyone who has definitely had it. Friend of mine who is definitely in the vulnerable category went to Cheltenham by train  for all five days, commuted daily by train from his hotel and spent every evening in a pub without catching it.

you'd think this would have had some impact..it hasnt.
Report jamesdean June 22, 2020 2:32 PM BST
Most people in early days when it was rampant wouldnt have been tested.
Had the testing been at full pelt March/April then it would be more common.
Has to be remembered too, the vast majority who get it will be fine with mild symptoms. The small majority who do die
are over 70, not many of them crammed on the tubes going to work or attending blm protests.

Ask any care home manager if it is real
Report dustybin June 22, 2020 2:42 PM BST
The number of confirmed cases has stopped falling, and is actually rising again.
Not sure if thats down to an increase in testing....but testing itself has been an utter joke so I'd be surprised if its that.

An Italian scientist was saying a few weeks ago that he thought that the virus had weakened somehow, that could explain, why, we haven't seen an upturn in the figures with people largely ignoring social distancing.
Report sparrow June 22, 2020 3:08 PM BST
We will soon find out by the end of this year. I very much hope the supreme optimists are correct.
Report FOYLESWAR June 22, 2020 3:25 PM BST
as said a lot of people may have had the virus and not had any ill effects , i have not been able to taste food /flavours etc for about the last 5 or 6 weeks, but touch wood have not felt any different physically have been keeping to the distancing rules so as not to affect any others should i be carrying the fooka . just gotta make sure i dont get complacent.

the virus is effectively dead. it can be beaten with zinc, vitamin c, paracetamol and sunshine. that tells you what we were dealing with here. all a load of over-reaction and a giant amount of h0rsesh1t.

Duffy, the view that you are talking about was from one itlaina profesor and held by a good number of others..
namely the virus is mutating and becoming more binign
so it's not that it's been over hyped betting masta
darwin theory etc regarding the virus benefit from killing the host otherwise it dies out (put bluntly)
so it mutates to a milder form...
result the virus survives continues to infect but a far lower number of fatalities
Report Insideshrewdie June 22, 2020 5:39 PM BST
the virus not benefitting from killing the host
