One of the greatest lines ever in a film -

- and brilliantly thought out by the screenplay writers ...

- as the WHOLE Fictional Film Plot hinged on the interpretation of that ONE LINE.

They obviously had good horse racinmg and bookie consultants involved - as NOBODY from a NON-Racing background could ever have thought up that scenario and one-liner. 

Great Film , Newman drunk on the Train

Went to first ever showing in Leeds (sunday afternoon),when they both went down dead the cinema was stunned and when they got up it was like they'd scored the winner at Wembley with the whole cinema cheering and clapping,never forget it.

i loved this film; the problem is that once you've seen it, the illusion is ruined. Same with Shawsank - Sixth Sense etc

Same thing ribero1 .Saw it at the Odeon Leicester Square. The sound when Redford opened his eyes was unbeliveable,never heard a noise like that in a cinema in 40 years . Still the best ending imo in a film ever. Can watch the film over and over, but agree Baphornet
once seen its not the same as the first time.But saying that if you watch it with someone who has never seen it its still great

When i saw trainspotting in london the line 'the english are effete ar5eholes' went down like a lead balloon.
'Yeah well you can fluck off' was one of the more decipherable utterances i observed..

Great film. The Hustler & The Color of Money are 2 other films Paul Newman is excellent in. Even Tom Cruise puts in a decent performance in the latter.
