..by now "the back of the last" is firmly embedded in the presenters lexicon. (Is that from the point of view of the spectator or the jockey btw?.) I have noticed in the last year or  so that nearly every horse which comes under the slightest pressure in a race is "racing behind the bridle", whatever that means. Presumably if they stuck a bridle up it's a**e it would be "racing in front of the bridle".

I think the "back of the last " is a ruby ism that has spread quicker than Coronavirus.

Until a couple of years ago, a peloton was not heard of anywhere outside of the Tour de France.

Now every f**king horse race has one.
