Does any forumite know roughly how many shops have closed since April 1,£2 fobt stake limit?
I know William Hill have closed a lot as they are now into the American sportsbook bigtime in several states.
The first 6 months are up,and presumably the second 6 months will probably result in a few more closures from the original 8,500 approx.

Ladbrokes have just released a trading update. They have closed 198 since the FOBT stake cut, with a further 900 expected over the next couple of years. Hills recently closed 712. Unibet closed a few of theirs but not sure of the number and presumably Fred won't need to disclose with being a private company.

If any restricted punters want multis on especially whilst taking prices shops will take them if you aren't too silly and hit a few shops you can get decent stakes on.
You'll also be able to get your FC/TC stakes on without any bother including FC doubles, all of these types of bets are heavily restricted online to small pence in most cases.
You also won't have the indignity and personal intrusion of proving your income/wealth in order to restricted bet which will be kicking in for many very soon way beyond the usual (invasive) KYC checks,I'd advise any who want to avoid these to start having a look round the shops now and spreading some stakes around before the online accounts are shut out all together.
Amazing that all the long term winning geniuses staking 1000s of pounds with bookmakers online aren't affected by such measures but I don't think Mr Rourke and Tattoo operate under the Gambling Commission.
Anyway message is if you're a multis punter or smaller EW price punter have a look round the shops you'll not be restricted to 10p if you don't take the p!ss and might be your best option to get a bet on in the future.

Ladbrokes owner sees profits boost despite gambling crackdown

GVC, the company that owns Ladbrokes, says it expects its profits to be bigger than expected despite the government's clampdown on gambling.

The firm still expects to close 900 stores over two years because of the maximum stake on fixed-odds betting terminals (FOBTs) being cut to £2.

But while the use of FOBTs has fallen, in the third quarter more bets were being placed in-store.

The group, which also owns Coral, said online betting is also up by 12%.

In a third quarter trading update, it upgraded its profits guidance for the full year to between £670-£680m, from £650-£670m.

"Online momentum remains strong across all major territories, with net gaming revenue up 12% in the quarter despite the prior period containing part of the World Cup."

In August, the company announced plans to shut 900 shops - putting up to 5,000 jobs at risk - because of the cut in FOBTs maximum stakes from £100.

William Hill plans 700 store closures putting 4,500 jobs at risk
'Up to 3,000 betting shops to close'

There were 3,500 Ladbrokes and Coral shops at the start of the year, and some 198 have already shut, with the remainder scheduled for closure by April 2021.

GVC said revenue in the stores is down 18%, it still ahead of expectations.

GVC indicated that customers were finding other ways to gamble, as while revenues from machines - including FOBTs - were down 36% in the quarter, there was 7% rise in betting in shops.

But the biggest growth was in online gambling, boosted by a 16% rise in online sport betting revenues. GVC shares were up nearly 4% in early trading.

i use the machines in hills tried to get a yankee on with 2 races 1 horse in each race, 2 races 2 horses in each race was refused over the counter so place it on the machines they take odd bets like that and football multi bets with win and draw in the same bet that you cant do over the counter and you can get plenty on

I do feel sorry for those employed who may lose work, but removing the cancerous things (bookie casinos) from general society is not too bad a thing in a wider sense, for sure long term.
Report impossible123 October 9, 2019 2:51 PM BST
The bookies could re-invent themselves as casinos, but not on the high streets. The high streets are for the general public and society, not unscrupulous bookies the main cause of gambling addicts.

The Betfred shop near to me that closed last week has been a betting shop since the late 60's albeit an independant. I would say that that shop will be vacant of any sort of business for a very long time as the business rates are very high in Herne Hill.

not a bad estimate by me, as of 30/9/2019 1141 betting shops have closed since fobt stakes were cut to £2.

hills plan to cut 700 shops have cut 653 so far.
laddies/koral to cut 900 shops, so far cut 198.
fred to cut 400/500, so far closed 65
megabet shut 45 shops
scotbet shut 11 shops

estimated by 2021 only 6500 will be left, the lowest since they were first licensed.

Presumably your figures are from the Racing Post report today. Strange that Hills are reporting 653 shops, when they told the staff recently that 712 shops were closing by end of September in the cull, on top of the ones that had already closed.
Report ashleigh October 16, 2019 9:01 AM BST
correct, billys reduced the estimate of closures from 900 to 700, maybe it will be more like 900, seems like laddies/koral and fred are playing a waiting game, no doubt seeing what effect billy closures will have on their shops near bye.
