Report corruptus in extremus February 1, 2019 2:24 PM GMT
horse dogged it? you don't start looking around for dangers in a claimer unless you're sure. a ****
Report equine flew February 1, 2019 2:25 PM GMT
Horse fatter than Mart, hence the pre-race drift.
Report ashleigh February 1, 2019 2:25 PM GMT
hadn't run for 295 days, can't see why they brought him back for 1 run.
Report jimeen February 1, 2019 2:25 PM GMT
The horse is obviously a mutt but what a tool Shepherd is , looking round as if he was full of horse , when the cupboard is completely bare .
Report stridingedge February 1, 2019 2:25 PM GMT
it doesn't matter he looked round the horse found zilch FFS
Report sj February 1, 2019 2:25 PM GMT
imo(been wrong many times) I might be wrong but it looks worse than what it was
Report hulk23 February 1, 2019 2:25 PM GMT
when you look round, you're basically saying i've won this how far.  again, wac
Report GEORGE.B February 1, 2019 2:26 PM GMT
I was only joking, striding

Wouldn't think Derek Shaw would have a good record with any horse returning from a 295 day absence, never mind an ageing 12yo
Report howard February 1, 2019 2:26 PM GMT
the top jockey knockers on here outside of Rampton  will be keeping quiet this time
Report stridingedge February 1, 2019 2:26 PM GMT
hulk that is totally irrelevant

the horse obviously was still travelling when he looked round and found zilch

Report Poppydog. February 1, 2019 2:28 PM GMT
Still wonder why jockeys enjoy getting into head to head battles (especially against a better stayer) on the bridle
Horses are trained to race.

Kick on past and he would have surely won easily
Report equine flew February 1, 2019 2:29 PM GMT
If you think you have the leader covered, surely the jockey SHOULD look round to check for other possible dangers??
Report stridingedge February 1, 2019 2:29 PM GMT
no cos the horse didn't want to put any effort in past its cruising speed.

if it wnated to put it in it would have gone on and won. the earlier the button was pressed the earlier it curls up

the winner was extending to the line.
Report hulk23 February 1, 2019 2:29 PM GMT
exactly, put the race to bed.  then start looking round to see how far you've won by.
Report jimeen February 1, 2019 2:29 PM GMT
It’s not irrelevant, what people are saying is the guy is as thick as a short plank and wouldn’t know whether a horse was going well enough to win or not . Would Frankie Dettori behave like that , not an earthly.

horses can go well and then not find and make jocks look like mugs.

but the armchair jocks on here always win on them

Report hulk23 February 1, 2019 2:31 PM GMT
interesting discussion though.  note not a mention of it on skysports racing.  they do look after their own ..
Report stridingedge February 1, 2019 2:32 PM GMT
chappers said a horse that wanted to win vs a horse that didn't

100% nothing else needed.
Report sj February 1, 2019 2:32 PM GMT
if he tried to kick on entering the straight he still wouldn't have gone past, yes it looks bad with all the showboating but the result would have been the same. I can get what people are saying though
Report stridingedge February 1, 2019 2:35 PM GMT
if it were closing on the line after not getting going quick enough I wouldn't have been so forthright on this.

it looked like the winner and was asked in plenty of time to go on to the line and curled up when asked anything.

The fact the jock was confident up the straight has no bearing on whether the horse should have won or not.
Report stridingedge February 1, 2019 2:37 PM GMT

and had actually won when last seen, so if they wanted to go out on a win... Crazy
Report themover February 1, 2019 2:38 PM GMT
As looking around clearly has no effect on the ride I'm surprised all jockeys don't spend the last couple of furlongs looking around all the time to see if anything is coming MischiefGrin
Report sparrow February 1, 2019 2:42 PM GMT
The horse didn't want to go in the stalls and didn't want to go past the winner. It's high time they retired it.
Report GEORGE.B February 1, 2019 2:45 PM GMT
Just noticed it was his 100th start, so maybe that's why they ran him once more. And amazingly had worn a visor on 98 of those starts Shocked

but had won 17 times and placed on a further 22, and turned 12 rated 85, so wouldn't want to call him a 'dog'.
Report hulk23 February 1, 2019 2:45 PM GMT
so he knows he's sitting on a dog that won't go by the leader, and his main concern appears to be where is everything else ?
Report equine flew February 1, 2019 2:46 PM GMT
Perhaps someone should claim it to stop it retiring.
Report the dealer February 1, 2019 2:46 PM GMT
it didnt make any difference to the result but when you do it and dont win, you are leaving yourself open to a bit of abuse.

he has been a great servant to them though
Report GEORGE.B February 1, 2019 2:48 PM GMT
yep, fair play to Derek Shaw, got the horse off Stoute, won 17 times with it and over £132K in prize money
Report stridingedge February 1, 2019 2:50 PM GMT
all that i look at it Tom is did it affect the result and the answer for me is clearly no

the horse won it's last race and is obviously handicapped out of it now so in a claimer but today it didn't want to know either before the race or during. I can't see why Jack should have known it was going to dog it but that's what it did and him looking round did not make this happen.
Report the dealer February 1, 2019 2:50 PM GMT

Report themover February 1, 2019 2:51 PM GMT
What was he looking around for? If he just rode the horse out to the best of his and the horses ability and the result would have been whatever. Not like he was looking to kid the handicapper by winning too far when the horse is on it's last run ! Laugh

Report stridingedge February 1, 2019 2:57 PM GMT

Report equine flew February 1, 2019 2:58 PM GMT
Horse completely unfit
Report GEORGE.B February 1, 2019 2:59 PM GMT
thought it was a case of a hard fit horse finding plenty and an a 12yo off a 10 month break finding little, imo
Report stridingedge February 1, 2019 3:00 PM GMT
that's perfectly possible.
Report themover February 1, 2019 3:06 PM GMT
Callum Shepherd obviously didn't as he was looking around like he was on Frankel Laugh
Report handtorofe February 1, 2019 3:07 PM GMT
I think your assuming the horse had a lot left and been sucked in by that jockey showboating that horse was tired late on and maybe hurting.
Report themover February 1, 2019 3:08 PM GMT
Why would a jockey showboat if there's a possibility the horse maybe tired and hurting?

The 12-year-old Loyalty is likely to have his final start on what will be his 100th start at Lingfield (2.20).

The son of Medicean, who still retains all his character according to trainer Derek Shaw, started his career in the care of Sir Michael Stoute before being bought by Shaw and his wife in November 2010.

Shaw said: "I always said I'd get him to 100 and then retire him. He's been a star for us – winning 17 races and more than £132,000 in prize-money – but he's been getting quite difficult in the stalls.

"I wish I could find ten more like him but he's not the easiest to deal with and full marks to the staff who've looked after him.

"Win, lose or draw it's been the plan to retire him but as long as he comes back safe and sound then that's the main thing."
