Totally agree Dave been saying this for ages. Unfortunately on this forum no one ever seems to comment on anything apart from juvenile sh*t. Look at the last race....bottom 3 in the betting we’re first 3 places weren’t they?

closely followed by Southwell dave in my opinion everytime they want one beaten falls out the gates wears all the kickback finishes down the Old Kent next time shoots out up with the pace **** in.

Would have to conclude that I no longer play at Newcastle AW at all.
I'm a Layer of big outsiders and nowadays there are too many sluicing in,so I give it a miss
Report handtorofe January 31, 2019 9:15 PM GMT
Newcastle easier than Lingfield Southwell and Kempton for me but I am a layer
Report lockup January 31, 2019 9:15 PM GMT
racing now so diluted far too many 0 to 60 races all sorts winning from every direction no point in studying form there just stick a pin in.
Report RothmanMike January 31, 2019 9:18 PM GMT
Southwell has to be the easiest track in the country to nick a few quid, bar none.
Report smirnoff2therescue January 31, 2019 9:20 PM GMT
as a backer or layer Rothman??
Report RothmanMike January 31, 2019 9:22 PM GMT
Layer mate.
These short runners from Lingfield, etc are never gonna get home at Southwell if they can't manage it at these easier AW  tracks.
Report lockup January 31, 2019 9:24 PM GMT
agree Mike but thats the point half of them seem to run there to get the h/cap mark back down.
Report Davros January 31, 2019 9:34 PM GMT
It's no more bent than any other.  The issue with Newcastle is that form from the other all-weather tracks doesn't translate well, partly due to the confirmation of the course (straight with uphill finish) being the polar opposite to the other AW tracks.  This impacts the form in two ways; one, obviously prominently-raced horses don't have the advantage they do at other AW tracks.

More importantly the majority of the races aren't run at an honest pace so more horses are ridden for a turn of foot on a surface which is not conducive to a turn of foot.  So, the form tends to be all over the place.  So, basically Newcastle isn't like any other track in the country.

Southwell is easier.  If you're not leading or very prominent you are dead unless the leaders have committed suicide.  If the leaders limit their deceleration to reasonable levels you're not getting a look in.  Again, the unique surface can cause some odd results and the straight 5f course often requires a different going allowance making figure handicapper's jobs difficult.

Both unique courses in their own way.
Report smirnoff2therescue January 31, 2019 9:36 PM GMT
1mile straight course aint "straight"
Report smirnoff2therescue January 31, 2019 9:37 PM GMT
agree wiv Southwell comments though
Report RothmanMike January 31, 2019 9:42 PM GMT
Don't know about Southwell being easier, trying walking the track and you'll sink in nearly a foot , much rather skip around Lingfield,me.
Report smirnoff2therescue January 31, 2019 9:48 PM GMT
never been and the rather grumpy salmon spray has put me off re the gaffe - plenty big priced winners there - easiest for me by far has always been Wolves - Lingers is a lottery closely followed by  Kempton but form for Newcastle seems to hold up much better in the summer mths

Indeed and with the current trend being an over reliance on speed figures for what most refer to as 'form' ignoring much of everything else.
Southwell is the ideal for speed figure punters due to the truly run nature of almost all the races and unique surface, problems are everyone is aware of the types that go there so the market knows at 5pm the day before and can ride deeper due to weather/trackwork which you don't find out til after a race which has it's own specialists.
Report RothmanMike January 31, 2019 9:54 PM GMT
Smirnoff if you like small gaffs, with terrific fish & chips, and you get to talk to everybody there, and everything is under cover and it's no more than 100 miles away, then you would like Southwell.
Ludlow and Hexham are also from the 19th century, but that's what I like about them,gaffs.Happy.
Report RothmanMike January 31, 2019 9:56 PM GMT
PS I was born Jarrow,5 miles from Newcastle so no favouritism here.

"1mile straight course aint "straight""

Smirnoff, what do you mean?

Denzil - and errors compounded by the use of straight averages for standard times there.
Report Davros January 31, 2019 10:02 PM GMT
by there I mean Newcastle
Report sparrow January 31, 2019 10:35 PM GMT
Newcastle just needs an extra bend or two on that awful straight mile course. They mostly crawl along for 6f then sprint for the last 2f.
Report Ramruma February 1, 2019 6:38 AM GMT
Aftertiming alert -- backed five winners at Newcastle yesterday: they are all in the form book. Been losing heavily the rest of the week, mind.

And I did chuck four darts at the last.

But Ginger Jam was findable. Handicapped after three runs last year, when he'd fluffed the start every time, but look at his debut race which on my figures was the hottest race any of them had ever run in, with the first two home now being 90s horses, whereas Ginger Jam was off, what, 54 last night in a race where nothing leapt off the page.

Not bent, just hard.
Report RothmanMike February 1, 2019 8:50 AM GMT
Correct,tough test.
No,other uphill AW track, all others flat as a pancake, so form doesn't travel.
Report salmon spray February 1, 2019 10:18 AM GMT
Just found this.
Not sure what smirnoff is on about. I have been to Southwell a couple of times in the last 18 months but both were jumps meeting and I found it quite a pleasant experience. Previous to that I had only been decades ago so may have said something about acres of sand ruining the aesthetics. Not interested in the a/w so never been to a sand meeting there or anywhere else.
Report McCoy Carp February 1, 2019 10:53 AM GMT
There are things that work there. Callum Rodriguez mounts still going off overpriced is you're a backer. I've a system that produces good aw results based on ratings - but not at Newcastle, so I've stopped using it there. Certain sires do well there as well.
Report granitjack February 1, 2019 5:19 PM GMT
Why don’t they just revert to 1f sprints at this sh*thole?

Wolverhampton head and shoulders in front profit wise for me
Report Dr Crippen February 2, 2019 11:54 AM GMT
Selecting the right type of the race to work out is far more important than the track.

But there's little hope anyway for people who insists on wading through a card full of low grade stuff.
Which is okay betting two quid a race for entertainment only, but serious betting needs some thought put into finding which races to study.

Knowing where to find it, is as important as knowing what to look for.
