The shrewdies and the insiders all knew last week and got the prices, the trainer said the horse was spot on and had been working really well (obviously he waited until after the race before divulging this), the money was down and it bolted up in a decent time.
That run came after a lengthy break, and that was the run that mattered for those in the know. Just a week later, mugs like Dave were being asked to take odds-on / evens for a horse who was being asked to back up quickly off a big effort and under a penalty. Of course it was possible he could go in again and as it turned out he ran well against one who decided to put it all in this time, but if you weren't on the day that mattered, did you really want to be going in at short odds next time? |
