Just as dumbfounding as the ride on Frankel in the 2000 Guineas. The difference is/was. the horses ability.

Most overrated Champion Jockey in recent times imo, a very good jockey but to say he's great is taken the hiss...
Report salmon spray November 4, 2018 10:23 AM GMT
Tbf most European jockeys are poor on dirt. Moore set absolutely suicidal fractions last night but I imagine he had been told to get out in front, which is what Mendelssohn did when he won the UAE Derby. Unfortunately that was against donkeys ( or camels ? ).

Moore did not pick up an outside ride in the Breeders Cup. And he had been overlooked by the owner of Yucatan for The Melbourne Cup - James McDonald has the ride.

I think he's lost some of his mojo for the game, and clearly not as hungry as before.
Report thelatarps November 4, 2018 10:20 PM GMT
Ryan offers something different.
He can win races that no other jock around can, imo.
Looking at the breeders cup, reading his blog on here, he was only really keen on Magical and he did ride an absolute stormer to get close to enable on her favourite surface.
Coolmore have a pretty atrocious record as a whole in this event.
Its because none of the races, outside the classic, are all that important.
This year they seemed to want to have a go at the classic with mendelsson.
They realised they had to be up with the speed and they certainly nailed the start. The rest of the race to many afficionados of US dirt racing on here was pretty amateurish.
Hopefully they learnt their lesson.
Still, ryan is in good company when it comes to the breeders cup.
Who can forget Frankie and his abysmal ride on Swain in 98 and the time Micky Jo Kinane dropped the whip in a finish on Giants Causeway?
The only way Ryan stops riding for ballydoyle is when he has had enough of race riding.

Anyone who doesn't rate Ryan Moore maybe needs to find another hobby.

Anyone can have an opinion on something but if facts rubbish that opinion then oddly enough, it generally tends to have been a rubbish opinion all along.

It doesn't offend me Workrider but having had the likes of Kinane, Fallon and Murtagh ride for Ballydoyle, I reckon they know a top class jockey when they see one and when I was saying about facts I was really just meaning this below at the end:

That's a lot of races in a lot of places and not all for Ballydoyle either, plus they have so many good horses that they don't always know which ones are the best and is why the two O'Brien boys had or have managed to win so many big races, as well as Seamie Heffernan and Colm O'Donoghue too and even the likes of Michael Hussey and Padraig Beggy have won a few too.

So Ryan Moore's big race wins record could have been even better if getting on the rights ones, although I was surprised to see that he's not won an Irish Derby yet.

'workrider', the likes of 'ima and acdc' just will never accept anything negative said or posted about Moore mere;y out of loyalty only known to themselves. I do not even fully accept totally the commentaries of races now with pictures transmitted unlike the days of Extel and ticka-tape. Moore was nothing but woeful at Ascot on  totally Seventh Heaven and Flag Of Honour; Minding and Cliffs Of Moher (RIP) in the Classics at Epsom.

These races will forever be used as examples for his injudicious rides, and cannot never be erased from memory and tape.
Report ima_mazed66 November 8, 2018 11:48 AM GMT
But surely he wouldn't be getting on those good horses workrider unless he had shown Coolmore something already and it's not as if every horse on that list above was trained by Aidan O'Brien. In the context of his whole career and the 400 or so Group or Grade race winners he has had, he's only been riding for O'Brien as #1 jockey relatively recently and rode numerous big race winners for several trainers before that.

Please don't try to speak for me impossible123 as I'm opinionated enough on plenty to not need any help on that matter and especially when you're wrong on my supposed views anyway and I can do a better job myself. I've often said on here that jockeys can make poor decisions or errors of judgement at times, but that's not the same thing as being poor jockeys who can't ride, which is often the things said about them on here.

Racing isn't just about what happens in the last furlong or so either and a lot can shape things in a race long before that, taking Seventh Heaven for example, she was drawn 13 of 13 and so widest off the rail on a right-hand turning course. Moore dropped her in to take the inside racing line, which is always a gamble when hoping for the gaps to come and she got checked a couple of times in her run once they straightened up. Yet you just know that if he went 5 wide and was beaten then he would have been slaughtered for that too.

The horse was also racing after a two month lay off and was never travelling as well as other runners in the second half of the race when being niggled 5f out and was one of the first to come under a ride too. She did seem to run a better race in the Breeders' Cup a few weeks later though so maybe came on for the race.

Ima, I was in Thurles today and saw a brilliant ride from the rider of Fairymount Boy , the jockey was Adam Shortt, I went to the jockey as both he and the trainer were returning to weigh in, a brilliant ride I said to Adam , well the look he gave me was incredulous. He thought I was been sarcastic when in fact I was praising him, he did everything in his power to get his mount home sadly he was done a h/l but never the less it was a powerful ride from the young man, pity he thought I meant otherwise, if you get a minute you might have a look at it..1.20 Thurles..

OK FELTFAIR I'll take heed of what you are saying....I just need to work out who is Bungle now though. Grin

Maybe he reads this forum workrider and had you down as guilty by association. Grin

Good to see people aware though that not all losing rides are just bad ones by default and yeah I watched the ride and the whole race and didn't see much wrong with it. I think the horse just seemed a little overly cautious at each fence, to the extent that they probably would have won had it not put in the extra stride at the second last and hit it and then again at the last and losing a bit of momentum when they really needed to go for a big one and land running.

Ima-mazed66 the horse is a bit of a thinker and needs things go his way, so the ride yesterday gave him every chance. Adam bringing him stand side was a plus, but Davy in full flight is hard to beat...
