sad, he was responsible for darts being what it is today. Deliberately controversial showman who talked the talk and walked the walk.

some great documentaries out there about him ph - as you say dragged darts into modern era and talked the talk but deffo walked the walk as well to go with his patter .
Always remember him playing for England in a team game up in Scotland wiv Jocky on the stage and someone from the crowd lobbed a can of Tennents at him as he was throwing - cud you imagine that these days but he did know how to press peoples buttons

More very sad news in sport. Saw the crafty cockney a few times in my younger days. Although he could appear arrogant at times, i think a lot of it was just confidence and when i met him he actually came across as a really nice guy. RIP EricSad

I watched all the darts last night bar the last game and knew nothing about him passing. Was it was announced later than that? I've just seen a clip of Snakebite crying after his match.

A true darts legend. He was supposed to be playing in an exhibition that I'm going to in three weeks. I had a smoke with him at an earlier one, I'll use that as my new claim to fame.

a great sporting occasion was the final where he was beaten by the little known keith deller i cant remember the year but it was when the final took place at tea time on a saturday, almost everybody wanted deller to win because bristow was so good ,it was like the 73 cup final where almost an entire nation wanted sunderland to win.the world darts final in those days was like the fa cup final it meant something to so many, theres no question about it darts owes an awful lot to eric bristow .

sad news to wake up to.

1983 foxy & it was featured on the repeated BBC doc recently repeated that was mentioned earlier in the thread

Bristow had one dart for the bull to take the title but with Deller on 138, he chose to hit a safe 18 thinking that he would have 3 darts at D16

The rest is history of course!

They didn't call him The Crafty **** Knee because of his place of birth, it was more the region it hung.
