Former jockey and trainer Dandy Nicholls, who was renowned for his training of sprinters, has died at the age 61. Adrian Nicholls, his son, revealed his father had died in a tweet posted on social media just after 11am on Sunday. It read: “RIP dad love you always go have pint with Archie and Lynsay pat and Walter gutted doesn't come close.” Nicholls was nicknamed the “Sprint King” during his illustrious training career. After beginning with just five horses, he scooped big races in Europe such as the Nunthorpe Stakes, the July Cup, the Prix de l'Abbaye and the Haydock Sprint Cup. With the help of his wife, champion lady jockey Alex Greaves, he ended up with a string of more than 100 at his peak and he was also an expert in big-field handicaps. Nicholls won the Ayr Gold Cup six times, sending out three winners in succession between 2000-02 from his base at Tall Trees Stables, near Thirsk.

no need to speculate, he is dead, its undoubtedly sad for his family. Any causes or reasons for death will come out in the wash. His Son has spoke up for him as a mentor and Father so he had positive impacts personally as well as professionally. Anything else I don't know about, pre-trial speculation is just that, tittle tattle and ill informed gossip is a scourge in society. Its a sad day for his family and friends and 61 is no age.

Strange I just thought of him yesterday as he won the last at Epsom on Derby day last year with Blaine. Good jockey and a good trainer of sprinters not only at Ayr but Goodwood and Epsom as well. He also placed horses well in Claimers.

The guy Cost me a wheel barrow full of cash after 4 legs up on a lucky 31 all running on to one of his Fav's only for him to go and win it with one of his other horses at 14/1 and then smiling on Ch4 T.V. Declaring they were all on it him and his owners.
Nothing personal, Im sure he was a nice bloke especially when u knew which one of his 6 runners he was trying with.

are you joking, they want a 50% chance of jury conviction i.e 10 out 12 to believe their case. No idea if he has previous that didn't get to open Court but if so they can bring it all up, the not guiltys, the cases not proceeded with but they use previous witnesses, claimants to boost their claims as filibusters. That is the modern CPS, they believe in bad character and that there is no smoke without fire, its nothing to with overwhelming evidence or a complete lack of it.An absolute joke of an organistion that can make and break lives of innocents. Its what are the chances of conviction and many cases such as sex crimes get a green light to proceed even on flimsy evidence because women are apparently unfairly treated in society at home, at work and also in Court so the least the PC and Guardianista can do is get sex crimes heard in Court and allow a jury to determine the strength or weakness of the case. I could give you a personal case of discrimination and corruption but this isn't the arena. Life must be great in your Ivory tower.

Willie Shafter. If you read the RP article Franny Norton said that Dandy had been in hospital for some time and had called him to say that he was home.

Could be facts, I know many of the racing ones aren't listed as most happen shortly after leaving the sport but in this town you do well to not hear of 1 at a minimum every week

95% of statistics are made up on the spot! Without dismissing the problem, are you sure?

Very difficult to prove though it has been commented on for years that stable staff apparently are very much at risk. There have been a few more high profile ones,Eph Smith certainly, and I think his brother Doug. More recently others seem to have drunk themselves to death. It used to be cricket that was thought to have a high level of suicides. There were enough for a quite well-known book ( the title of wehich escapes me )to have been written on the subject.

Sorry to not answer sooner blackbarn only have been busy today and only just looked in, I was led to believe this was the case and read something along those lines online a while back but had a little look about before posting and only thing I can find is that major injuries are 12x higher in racing than the construction industry so it's highly possible I remembered this and posted incorrectly and I should've double checked before posting on this thread, Apologies for my mistake as I wasn't trying to be alarmist or mislead anyone with my comment.

Facts: Doctors have head start when it comes to death. https://www.pressreader.com/uk/daily-mail/20161206/282613147403204 Though not a Doctor my aunt had what she called her Big Pill. She had got from someone in one of the care services. She had been housebound for six years she told me that when the time was right she would take it with glass of brandy. One Sunday five days before Christmas I had a call from her other nephew. He said the she was unconscious in hospital after a massive stroke. I asked how she had been found as she lived on her own. He said it was strange as she had dialled 999 and asked for an ambulance. When the paramedics arrived she was laying fully dressed on her bed even with her hat and coat on. She died the next day but he did not believe me when I told him about the big pill.
