I left it after you crashed the price George , had two runners in the following race so caution got the better of me.

By:
I think the price was there for most of the day until the late money arrived for it. There's always tomorrow...
|
By:
It was, only kidding. I could have had plenty of 6/1 ish.

By:
Frustrating - tell me about it ....hardly anything I picked run well
Nice try George couldn't believe that only hit 1.5 |
By:
7.15 Rock of America was supposed to be the last leg of a 5 fold but I will only play @ 2's or above ...gl

I thought it might be a bit vulnerable in this age group so early in career v

Nothing leaps off the page at me for Sunday, but a couple are of interest, albeit fitness (and possibly stamina) in both cases have to be taken on trust.
Florenza, 1pt EW @ 20-1, 1.45 Doncaster Fitness has to be taken on trust and she's yet to win at 7f, but Florenza has yet to run a bad race in three starts at Doncaster, and she makes a little EW appeal at a price on this drop back down to Class 4 level. The notebook run was came over C/D last May on her handicap debut when finishing fourth of seventeen (form worked out well), and she might have fared even better had she not drifted left inside the final furlong and run into trouble. She went on to win her maiden over 6f at the course and continued to run well thereafter, notably when finishing two lengths third behind subsequent Group 3 and Group 2 winner Opal Tiara, in a Class 2 handicap at York in August, off a 2lb lower mark than today's. Florenza is returning from six months off here and may well need the run, but she came to hand relatively early last season, so a chance is taken at the odds. Bin Battuta, 1pt win @ 8-1, 5.05 Doncaster Bin Battuta impressed on his debut last June when winning over 6f at Windsor, overcoming trouble in running and greenness to lead inside the final furlong and bound clear; that maiden might not have taken much winning at the time, though in behind were Harbour Master and Big Lachie, who went on to be rated in the high-80s and high-70s respectively. The selection was stepped up markedly in class on his second start to contest the 7f Group 2 Superlative Stakes at the July meeting, but after being hampered 2f out, he could make no impression and finished well beaten. He hasn't been seen since and returns this season in handicap company, upped markedly in trip (half-brother to the high class sprinter Dream Ahead, but also to winners at 10f (Listed) and 12f), so has to prove his stamina as well as his wellbeing, but with the promise of that debut win not yet forgotten, a chance is taken for the minimum stake at 8-1. |
By:
Thankfully a winner today after yesterday's painful near miss! It was encouraging to see the money arrived for Bin Battuta and he got the job done in pleasing style.
Florenza ran a nice race, but unfortunately faded out of the places late on to finish 6th. Running Totals P/L : +6.95 Win stat: 3/16 (19%) Place stat: 7/16 (44%) Points staked so far: 28 |

Viola Park, 1pt win @ 8-1, 5.15 Wolver
Viola Park finished behind three of today's opposition when a beaten favourite, finishing fourth on his latest start over C/D (seven in all from that race reoppose here), but it's quite possible he was unfortunate not to finish closer as he appeared to be travelling as well as anything turning into the home straight but had to wait for a clear run. It has to be said he did have room on the inner in plenty of time and he didn't exactly fly home, but he looks a big horse and perhaps it wasn't ideal having his momentum checked and then having to get going again. He did have a inside draw that day, whereas he's out in stall nine today, but at the prices a chance is taken for the minimum stake that he can reverse the form with those who finished ahead of him. |

Gl George. I thought you might put up The Secret's Out today, was 33s when I went to work, Hugh perhaps.

Not one of Hugh's this time, saddo
I did think about it, and also Malt Teaser too, but decided to pass. Also had a couple in Ireland at big prices, but nagging doubts about this and that, put me off. |
By:
I had a few fivers on, will probably drift into oblivion near race time, I've been waiting for headgear on it tbh.
|
By:
I took Moneyoryourlife out of Malt Teasers last race, and that has won since. MT Finished well that day and looks to have a decent chance over the extra furlong. Class 5 put you off?
|
By:
I think the trip will suit, my main concern would be trap 11 and a lack of pace if he's dropped out again.
I can't remember which thread it was, but remember saying I thought The Secret's Out wanted gelding as he was too lit up in his races, but it appears he's still a colt. |
By:
Well backed on the second start.
|
By:
You could be right about the wedding tackle, I noted "green or rogue?"
|

Viola Park missed the break, then seemed to do plenty to get to the front, but still responded well when the jock eventually switched his whip (not sure why he didn't have in his right hand in the first place, cuz it looked ineffective imo while it was in his left), but unfortunately for me, VP was just held (traded around 6-4).
Made for pretty painful viewing from start to finish tbh, but you just have to take these things on the chin and move on! Running Totals P/L : +5.95 Win stat: 3/17 (18%) Place stat: 8/17 (47%) Points staked so far: 29 |

Very unfortunate and a very close thing.
Money back in the place market though |
By:
Well the place stats look nice KC, maybe I should have been doing them all EW
I can't find a selection for Thursday, but Friday's racing looks a bit more appealing. |
By:
I've just read that Viola Park was reported to have hung left, which might explain why Powell had the whip in his left hand. Oh well, I move on...
|
By:
Unlucky George hung both ways apparently

London Grammar, 1pt win @ 7-1, 6.15 Kempton
London Grammar would appear to be regressive, being well beaten in a Redcar claimer on her final start for John Quinn last year, and not faring any better on her stable and AW debut at Kempton at the start of February. However, her second start for RJ Smith, wasn't too bad considering the wide trip she had over one mile at Lingfield, in what looked a decent contest for the grade (winner since run well in class 4 company, and the runner-up has won since). The handicapper wasn't impressed though, he's dropped her 5lb to a mark of 52, which is 12lb below her peak rating, and allows her into 0-55 company. London Grammar has been off for six weeks, which is a tad worrying given there have been plenty of low grade races in the interim that she could have run in, but in the hope that the Lingfield run indicated a revival in form, a chance is taken for the minimum stake, on what will be only her third AW run. Turasoir, 1pt EW @ 25-1, 6.55 Dundalk Odd one this, as it's a case of a lightly-raced filly going into a maiden rated just 36 and coming out of it rated 18lb higher. Was she flattered to the finish third? The winner is rated in the 120s over hurdles, the runner-up has an official Flat rating of 75 (also had a good apprentice taking 5lb off) and is unexposed at the trip, while the fourth had recorded an RPR in the 70s on her debut at the track (albeit she didn't last for long in the Weld stable), and the fifth is also rated in the 120s over hurdles. There were a few 'firsts', first run for the stable, first run over 2 miles and first run on the AW, so there are possible reasons why she might have improved. The handicapper could have been harsher if taking the form with the runner-up literally, and while it has to be said she did look a little awkward when running on, she did hit the line well having possibly not been best positioned how the race panned out. She looks worth at least one chance to prove the run wasn't a fluke. |

Also 1pt EW double

Good luck George, a pleasing thread, what the forum should be about, rightly or wrongly I always enjoy reading another persons analysis of a horse or race, nobody should ever want to stop learning no matter how much they know or think they know.
