Still cannot for the life of me find the answer about which champion The Potentate defeated. Am I losing my marbles?
|
By:
He beat Abernant a head on Friday April 16th 1948 at Lingfield. He was 13/8 fav, Abernant was 7/4. It was the day before the Scottish Grand National (at Bogside).
It was Abernant's racing debut, and the only time he was beaten as a 2yo. His only other defeats in 17 races were in the 2000 Guineas, where he was beaten a short head, having led from the start before being caught on the line, and in the Kings Stand as a 4yo, when he failed to give 23 lbs to a 3yo. |

Jockeypedia has done a Christmas Racing Quiz. Answers are due to be published on Friday.
|

Hero.
Cheers Ged. I found that he was beaten on his first start at Lingfield, and has narrowed it down to two, but for the life of me couldn't find the date or result of the Lingfield race. Thanks again. Quiz complete. Have answered the past five years correctly, no prizes as yet! |
By:
The question is "Have you got them all correct?". I submitted mine on Christmas Eve!
|
By:
If anyone fancies helping a fellow Christmas quiz afficianado out...maybe Flippit as someone helped him...? as far as I can work out none of West Tip (5), Pragada (6 max, not sure if/what he ran in in 1987 (presumably Triumph) and 1989), Fair Along (6) and Go Ballistic (ran in loads of Gold Cups so couldn't have run in 7 different races?) ran in 7 different races. I haven't definitively checked Go Ballistic so I will have to go for him, cos the others definitely didn't. Any thoughts?
|
By:
Just checked Go Ballistic. As I thought...five gold cups, and only five different races. So that's fair Along 6, West Tip 5, Go Ballistic 5, Pragada 4 plus two missing years = 6 max. I am going mad.
|
By:
Ah...just rechecked. Missed that Fair Along ran twice in 2007. Glad I've done it under own steam!

Is there a link to this interesting sounding quiz, or a copy/paste available ?
