PAT EDDERY, champion Flat jockey 11 times and the winner of 14 British Classics, has died at the age of 63.
Eddery was one of the most successful riders of all time and partnered more than 4,500 winners. He also won four Arcs and was aboard Dancing Brave for his breathtaking triumph in 1986. His CV is punctuated with many of the world's other great races including a brace of Gold Cups, two King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes and he was also champion jockey in Ireland in 1982, 27 years after his father Jimmy had won the title for the second time. As well as Dancing Brave, he was associated with some of the best racehorses of the late 20th century, among them Bosra Sham, Sadler's Wells, Rainbow Quest, El Gran Senor, Grundy and Pebbles, whom Eddery won the Breeders' Cup Turf on in 1985. Only Sir Gordon Richards has ridden more winners than him in Britain. R.I.P. Pat |

Another one of my sporting heroes to go this year.
R.I.P. Pat. One of the best. I will never forget those rides on Posse in the Sussex and St James Palace. |

bbc sport has a picture of Fallon above the headline "Former champion jockey Eddery dies"
|

Remember him in his early days, it was Pat Eddery and Philip Waldron, the 2 best young riders at the time.
Pat Eddery went on to be one of the all time best. Really sad news, 63 too soon to die. |

1981 - Kings Lake vs To Agori Mou
My granddad was a Piggott man, his daughter loved a sneaky bet on Eddery. "What's Pat riding?" She used to whisper to me. I was the "runner". RIP Pat great memories, a great jockey in a great era. |

Magic days with Willie and Lester and Pat...remember watching him live at Epsom when he won on Golden Fleece...and particularly John Dunlop's improvers..Moon Madness amongst many..one of many great flat jockeys who never quite made it work as a trainer..really sad day for racing fans especially those around in the 80's.Noticed that too,Dave..shows the present lack of interest in the sport at the BBC.

Awful news. I always felt flat racing started to decline for me after the Eddery/Cauthen era. No one stronger in a finish. As someone who was inky starting in the betting game it as a pleasure to go to ny local track(Phoenix Park) and see the Vincent O'Brien/Pat Eddery combo in action, particularly the debut of El Gran Senor. RIP.

In my early years I backed him and Peter Walwyn quite a bit and 1974 was a fantastic year for them - and me! Pat made very very few mistakes. Clive Brittain is quoted as saying that he (Pat) told him before Pebbles' Breeders Cup that the best horse would win and she did - the implication being that there was no need to worry about tactics. Very cool and he never appeared to panic. The great days of him, Lester, Willie and Steve (Cauthen). I did understand that he had health problems but far far too young to die. RIP.

Very sad news, started in this game when Eddery, Carson, HIde, Piggott, Cathen et al were all top jocks
fine jockey in a golden era - remember Posse cheekily being put in front near the line at Goodwood prior to that won easily at Royal Ascot under a very cool Eddery ride - memories memories RIP Pat |
