Prison was part of his life, he is allowing the reader to see that he got by and continued to punt willy nilly, its his life, his addiction. Prison wasn't going to stop him having a punt. At Weddings or Funerals he'll still be on the machine and have flashscore alerting him, with his longish hair he can easily hide an earpiece. Wouldn't mind meeting Claude again, good snooker player and very useful badminton player back in the day, used to give me 13 points and I couldn't get it done. I suppose his point is that everybody knew he'd been parked up in the garage so he revealed the how and why.Its part of him, his story isn't a fairytale although there are similarities of a Cinderella existence.

Findlay lets rip with an amusing rant against cash-outs and the current betting industry which is too libellous to be repeated here, but he does make a salient point that it is “wrong that, as every winning bet pays Betfair a commission, small players should have to pay 5% while big players only pay 2%. It’s nearly impossible to win over a long period of time if you’re paying 5% rather than 2%. We need a new betting platform.”
Sport can be crooked and gambling is often ruinous. But Findlay now follows a quiet routine. We are interrupted just twice by calls from his best friend. “Glenn [Gill] is the best horse judge I’ve ever met. He tells me what to bet and how much. To have won over £250,000 the last two years betting on small stakes is amazing.”
So how is he getting his bets on? Is he winning on the exchange then?

Absolute tosh, there is no way of coming to that conclusion based on an event that is randomly controlled. Ask nurse for another cup of Horlicks.

Read the book over 2 nights-a very enjoyable read-a solid 8/10.I enjoyed the chapters on his early days but felt he could have written at least 2 chapters about his time with Nicholls-maybe he has a sequel in mind.

very enjoyable book, would have been better written chronologically imo, think you'd have got more of an idea of his roller coaster journey, was surprised how many things were missed out
great to see him back on tv etc, think he's given 4 tips and 4 winners in that time
when he was asked about enable, every career pundit would have said "i think it will win but its not value", not HF, he says he's backing it, end of, and you know thats a opinion backed up with a big bet
wont please everyone but i certainly hope we see more of him

I really do think Mick Appleby horses are very well handicapped now after being unbelievably out of form. Worth following in the winter months at double figures( but his long drifters rarely win my experience|! ). Plus Dave Evans with his new gallop and facilities, might be worth keeping a eye on too... Just my views cheers
Watch here again lads. I thought it was a good insight into Denman his greyhounds and general crazy betting!https://www.racinguk.com/videos/watch/ondemand/2707I really do think Mick Appleby horses are very well handicapped now after being unbelievabl

Really enjoyed this documentary highlighted on another thread from 1997. Fascinating that his mate (tennis partner in the documentary and at the restaurant) is doing 18 years for murder!!
Harry comes across as the sort of bloke most gamblers would find very entertaining. Not sure if his TV persona matches his real life persona; but he seems 'one of us.' Pity he wasn't backed by the greyhound bigwigs at Coventry who have overseen our sport dying.
I cannot fathom though how he went from rags to riches when seemingly having no strategy except lumping massive wagers he couldn't really afford on the jollies? What were the big wins that propelled him to owning Denman and shares in 40+ horses? Did he just run a purple patch?

You can see in the book that mainly he had his card marked by expert card-markers. Things went wrong when he was betting blindly on prices.

I saw him lose a very large amount at Walthamstow dogs one saturday night,no idea who he was just heard him say he was chasing his losses on the football in the afternoon.I remember him having something like 5 grand on a fav which i think was odds on and then chasing the loss with a bet on a 1/2 shot ,both dogs were the first ones beaten literally fell out of the box.Ronnie Brazell was the happy satchel swinger.

Findlay was interviewed on RPGTV about a month or so ago.
He is part of the team responsible for the reopening of Lifford greyhound stadium set to be March 2022. He hasn't changed a bit since I last saw him 20 odd years ago on course.

I wish i would have had half of his gambling experiences. It looks like he is putting in a lot of work to get Lifford Greyhounds back open , and as SlippyB pointed out this should happen in March of next year , all being well. I know a few years ago he spent a lot of money ( according to reports ) to get Coventry dogs back on its feet , all to no avail . Really hope it works out for him . I think he"s a great character .....obviously frowned upon nowadays by the P C Brigade

he did a little podcast for the RP a couple of years back, at the end of which he tipped Melbourne Storm to win the NFL League, or whatever it is, not the play offs just the league. They were 10/1 i think and won ahead of hot favourites Sydney something. A small investment on my part was quite rewarding.

I can remember Findlay and his crew arriving at Milton Keynes dogs one night, Gary Wiltshire was standing at the time there along with Nigel Flowers, I forget the names of the other layers.
This was about 2002 or thereabouts. They bet his dog to odds on in a stayers open race which duly sluiced up, collected their dosh then left. It wouldn't have taken that much though to shake the market up in those days at M.K.

Walking away when it's all gone to plan is relatively easy* - but what sorts the men from the boys, is the ability to also walk away when it's all gone t1ts-up.
* I do appreciate that some people can't even manage to walk away when it has gone to plan, but they are beyond help.
