In the 3.05 at Hexham yesterday only 1 finished so there was no distances to give. I think it was said on the TV the other day that they now have to announce the distances in lengths and not just say won by a distance.

Don't actually think they use the term "distance" any more. I think they announce the number of lengths up to 99, anything more is quoted at "99+", and 1 horse finishes (as in the case at Hexham) are given as "finished alone". Obviously the betting markets are capped at 12 (flat) and 30 (NH)

Well this is my poser as asked by someone to me. Say for instance sake a punter backs overs at a jumps meeting and its for arguments sake 45 lengths then surely if one comes home alone winning by "a Distance" then the bet is in is it not? or as Nellie points out,if its 30m lengths then the bet is still not covered yet toobt ^ says there was a 121 length winner then its simple, but who's right?

In the 15.05 at Hexham only one horse finished the race so it was impossible to give a winning distance. Please see post 10.41

I see what you are saying wannawin but as you say it is given in lengths now so if (as yesterday) there is only one finisher then surely there must be a limit ie 99 lengths or 50 lengths etc

Thanks for calling me names. Right Person A puts a bet on overs on the distance market,as happened yesterday a horse finishes alone.....if no official distance is given then whos to say the bookie refuses to pay out if no official distance is given
Comprende?

Earlier Answers of 12 lengths and 15 lengths - entirely INCorrect.
Never, ever, been as such.
Distances are now given in FULL - from the time -strip of the Photo Finish - as racingstar has stated. ... Just Look at many Results on RacingPost, et al..... measurements of such as 73 lengths, and the like. --------------
- As racingstar also states ...
A 'Distance' - USED to be - 'by more than 30 lengths'
There, ALSO, used to be a further DESCRIPTION of - 'BAD' ...
'BAD' - equated to more than 50 lengths.
