Hopefully enough warning being given, so that everyone can get their memories clicking into gear in good time...!
Will follow same format as last few, will post a question and give a certain time limit for answers to be posted, if answered correctly before time up, we will move straight on with the next question of course.

Your knowledge is greater than mine ged, only have them listed as double winners on my stats, perhaps some discontinued races have been omitted in error

That may explain it then, could be that the stats I have only take one and not both races.
Similarly, Know Won Nose, three riders correct for Inglis Drever, looks like I'll have to sack the input staff...!

Thanks to all for their kind words, apologies for the time it took, we seemed to breeze through the first twenty or so, gives me a better idea of what type of question to concentrate on for future ventures though.
Congratulations to Gordon63 on winning and to Fabulous who missed the second half of questions and still grabbed second. Full marks to everyone who scored and to all who tried or looked in, my best wishes to each and everyone of you for a successful and profitable Festival, good luck to all.

Not really for me cork as you nh boys are more onto it but am interested in the big race on tuesday as have been to most of the big festivals in the world and for sure the parade fks the inexperienced horse so a layers dream as they have ran their race before it starts. For sure you can trust me on that.Best of luck anyhow as the real value always lies in the handicaps which is always true on the flat.

thanks again CL - brings back pleasant festival memories, must be getting old though because I can't help thinking the 'olden' days were the golden era, or maybe it's the over-riding feeling that it all changed when it went to 4 days. I was never a big ante-post man but the increase in novice options (notwithstanding the handicaps which they can also enter) and the ryanair taking runners from both CH and GC, definitely has diluted the quality and the WPM 'spread them out' approach has further contributed. oh well rant over, i'll still be studying hard from this evening onwards and stuck to couch/tv like a limpet for next four days - good luck all!

Great effort Cork (and answerers). Well done with all the research and the prompting and the running.
(For Q13 you might have considered Solfen, who won both races in the same year).

ged, I did have Solfen as a qualifier but left it out as on the data input it showed different trainer and jockey combinations for the two victories which made me suspicious and as I was unable to check it out, felt it best to omit. For the RSA it had Dreaper/Taaffe and for the Stayers O'Grady/Beasley.
Best of luck to everyone for a winning week and hopefully casualties will be minimal (equine and human...!).

I see him being trained by Willie O'Grady for both. He won the Broadway on Wednesday (5/4 fav, by 25 lengths, ridden by Pat Taaffe), and won the Spa Hurdle at the top of the card on the Thursday (5/2 fav, by a hard fought length, ridden by Bobby Beasley - who was a late booking, presumably with a doubt about the horse running 2 days in a row - Pat Taaffe was on another, Tubbercosh, I don't know who for).

Just for interest (apologies if none), here's a piece by Ged Walsh (not me!!) about Solfen from the RP from a few years ago, (though there's at least 1 error in it - it says the Broadway was on the opening day, but it wasn't, so the horse did not have 'a day off', and it also says Johnny Haine rode him in the Spa - the Glasgow Herald results says H Beasley). Anyway, I'm sure some of it is correct!! :-
Ged Walsh on two Festival successes for Solfen
THE anticipation of a horse going to Cheltenham, never mind winning, was no less in 1960 than it is now.
Every year, many horses in October are touted as 'Cheltenham winners'. But by the time March comes along, many have not reached their earlier promise or have 'gone wrong' through one ailment or another. Stable stars are unstable.
In a stable near Thurles, in the village of Ballynonty, WT 'Willie' O'Grady had such a potential horse in Solfen.
Willie was born and reared in Little Island, County Cork, where his father bred and trained some horses with modest success.
He rode as an amateur at an early age, then turned professional, being Irish jumps champion in 1934 and 1935, having a 40.5 per cent win-to-rides ratio in the former year.
In the 1940s he began training, and had a steady stream of winners. But Ireland in the 1950s was not the Ireland of today, and it was hard to keep a stable going. Debts had mounted but were relieved by a nice coup on Rockbottom at Roscommon in 1957.
That year, a gentleman named Barney Naughton asked Willie to find him a horse. The horse bought was by Soladalo out of Fenora, and they named him Solfen.
He won twice at Limerick in 1958 and again in 1959. He won again at Leopardstown on January 15, 1960, then it was on to Cheltenham.
Solfen won the Broadway Steeplechase (now the Royal & SunAlliance) on the opening day of the Festival, ridden by Pat Taaffe, and then had a day off.
He was brought out again the next day and won the Spa (now World) Hurdle, ridden by Johnny Haine, and came home to a hero's welcome.
Willie continued to train until his untimely death, and he and his wife Mary bred many winners too. But perhaps the one he would be most proud of is his son, who has continued to turn out the winners from the same stable.
Willie's son is, of course, Edward O'Grady.

Here's another vote for Bobby Beasley as the 2nd jock, (from www.clontuskert.com), in a piece about Barney Naughton, the owner of Solfen:-
Bernard (Barney) Naughton was born at Loughill, Creagh, Ballinasloe in 1902. The son of a farming family, he was the second youngest of a family of eleven.
A well-known farmer, livestock dealer, bookmaker, horse owner, he purchased his farm at Abbey Park, Clontuskert in 1943 from winning bets on one of his first horses, Mr. Wilts. He was an astute judge of livestock and horses. From the 1940s until his death in 1977 he owned thorough-bred horses that won him in the region of eighty-five races.
In 1960, his horse Solfen made racing history at the three-day Cheltenham Racing Festival. The horse won a three mile chase on Day Two and a three mile hurdle on Day Three. Solfen's first race, the Broadway Novices Chase - now the Royal & Sun Alliance Chase - was noteworthy in that the eight year old gelding romped home by twenty-five lengths. Solfen was ridden by Pat Taaffe and twenty-one horses ran.
As Solfen was not the easiest horse to keep right and ready to race, (he suffered from leg problems) the owner and trainer Willie O'Grady decided to run him again as he was fresh and well after the first race. Within twenty-two hours he ran in the Spa Hurdle - now the Ladbroke World Hurdle - and with H.R. (Bobby) Beasley in the saddle, he won by one length and six lengths in a field of twenty-one runners.
...I'll keep quiet now...!

Interesting additional info ged, by coincidence the place the O'Grady dynasty started, Little Island, is only a few miles from me, though of course it is vastly different now, being a hive of activity with numerous companies having based themselves there in all the different business parks that now have taken over Little Island. Think it is safe to say that Dreaper on my data was the incorrect detail, and that Beasley rode it on the second occasion, have adjusted my records as I have for the Gloucestershire Hurdle Divisions, thanks for all your guidance and help.

(I lied - one more comment - I don't know from whence Ged Walsh got his idea about Johnny Haine riding Solfen in the Spa Hurdle, but it seems highly unlikely, as he'd only have been 17 at the time, and even if he had by then become a jumps jockey, he would surely have been a claimer in 1960, and highly unlikely to be selected by an Irish trainer to ride his star horse, especially with Bobby Beasley available and in his prime (riding Roddy Owen in the Gold Cup an hour later). In Johnny Haine's obit, it lists his first big winner as Buona Notte in the '63 Gloucestershire Hurdle. The Spa Hurdle might not have been one of the main events of the festival, but it would still surely count as a 'big' winner.)
