Not really for me cork as you nh boys are more onto it but am interested in the big race on tuesday as have been to most of the big festivals in the world and for sure the parade fks the inexperienced horse so a layers dream as they have ran their race before it starts.For sure you can trust me on that.Best of luck anyhow as the real value always lies in the handicaps which is always true on the flat.
My eyes will be on our connor and the new one and any fault in the preliminary will be a massive negative to their respective chance.

thanks again CL - brings back pleasant festival memories, must be getting old though because I can't help thinking the 'olden' days were the golden era, or maybe it's the over-riding feeling that it all changed when it went to 4 days. I was never a big ante-post man but the increase in novice options (notwithstanding the handicaps which they can also enter) and the ryanair taking runners from both CH and GC, definitely has diluted the quality and the WPM 'spread them out' approach has further contributed. oh well rant over, i'll still be studying hard from this evening onwards and stuck to couch/tv like a limpet for next four days - good luck all!

He won the Broadway on Wednesday (5/4 fav, by 25 lengths, ridden by Pat Taaffe), and won the Spa Hurdle at the top of the card on the Thursday (5/2 fav, by a hard fought length, ridden by Bobby Beasley - who was a late booking, presumably with a doubt about the horse running 2 days in a row - Pat Taaffe was on another, Tubbercosh, I don't know who for).

Solfen won the Broadway Steeplechase (now the Royal & SunAlliance) on the opening day of the Festival, ridden by Pat Taaffe, and then had a day off.
He was brought out again the next day and won the Spa (now World) Hurdle, ridden by Johnny Haine, and came home to a hero's welcome.
Willie continued to train until his untimely death, and he and his wife Mary bred many winners too. But perhaps the one he would be most proud of is his son, who has continued to turn out the winners from the same stable.

He was an astute judge of livestock and horses. From the 1940s until his death in 1977 he owned thorough-bred horses that won him in the region of eighty-five races.
In 1960, his horse Solfen made racing history at the three-day Cheltenham Racing Festival. The horse won a three mile chase on Day Two and a three mile hurdle on Day Three. Solfen's first race, the Broadway Novices Chase - now the Royal & Sun Alliance Chase - was noteworthy in that the eight year old gelding romped home by twenty-five lengths. Solfen was ridden by Pat Taaffe and twenty-one horses ran.

Interesting additional info ged, by coincidence the place the O'Grady dynasty started, Little Island, is only a few miles from me, though of course it is vastly different now, being a hive of activity with numerous companies having based themselves there in all the different business parks that now have taken over Little Island.
Think it is safe to say that Dreaper on my data was the incorrect detail, and that Beasley rode it on the second occasion, have adjusted my records as I have for the Gloucestershire Hurdle Divisions, thanks for all your guidance and help.
