I think A Bastiman was Robin's dad, but his name was Deryck, so I don't know what the 'A' stood for.

L Dale was Syd Dale. Don't know what the L stood for.
|
By:
(The other) Syd Dale was a composer and arranger, and was musical director of the program Six Five Special in the 1960's, so that's perhaps where L Dale got his name from.
|
By:
I wouldn't be sure that HT Cross was Vernon Cross. The latter was always V Cross in racecards.
|
By:
hi ged, Syd Dale was definitely Mr L S Dale. Not much help as I have no idea what the L stood for.
|
By:
M Charles is Martin Charles.
|
By:
Syd Dale trained Mill House, and Black Justice (and Mr M Prescott(7), I think)
|
By:
Hi blackbarn
M Goswell was Mick Goswell. |
By:
I have posted some obscure trivia on here over the years, but this one takes irrelevance to hitherto unheard of heights ( or is that depths?) ....
Syd Dale started training 5 miles from Gary Moore's Woodingdean yard. Syd trained Plummers Plain to win the Whitbread. Plummers Plain is a village less than one mile from Gary's current Lower Beeding yard. Remember where you heard it |
By:
Didn't Goswell hold the licence for a woman ?
|

I think the french trainer is Miguel Clement. He was defo training about that time and has a son who is also a trainer.

Aage Paus - was Scandinavian, but trained in France.
|
By:
Ged almost certainly correct re H T CROSS (who trained at East Ilsley at that time) Vernon Cross trained in Hampshire (Stockbridge I think) and I think he was V B Cross.
|
By:
Dennis Rayson - had Persian War at the end of his racing career.
|
By:
VB Cross sounds right. I think he trained at Stockbridge all his career - Atty Persse's old yard? I don't remember HT Cross at all.

Carrod's intial was L, but I don't know what it stood for.
He trained the 4th horse in the 1974 Cheltenham Trial Hurdle (which became the 'Bula', before being bastardized). The first 3 were Comedy Of Errors, Lanzarote, and Attivo. (There were only 4 runners, and Mr Carrod's horse started at 200/1). |
By:
Mr Carrod's horse was a half brother to Altesse Royale('68), Imperial Prince('71), Royal Saint('64) and Yaroslav('69), who were all either Group 1 or Group 2 class, 3 of them for Noel Murless.
