That's not going to be too pleasant a journey. If like me you like to get a plot 45 minutes before the first race to get myself and the placepot organised then leave no later than 10.30. First race 12.50 and it's going to take you around an hour and half I would say.

Leave as early as you can. The traffic around there is a complete nightmare and the area around the course is a natural bottleneck at the best of times. I would aim to get there about 11am. Take plenty of papers etc and get settled into a good spot and sort out your betting strategy.

Go for car park A (I think) at London Irish instead. Its about a 10-15 min walk, but means you can get out of there without having to go near Staines Red with all the other traffic.

i've given up going to kempton on boxing day as far too busy ...i prefer to watch on tv and then go to the track the following day when much more civilised. Then again i'm old..my first visit on boxing day was Arkle's last race. Can anyone (without looking up )remember the future grand national winner in the big race field in the 1966 race ?

Heard an interesting story from John Buckingham. He was riding in a long distance chase at Market Rasen. One of the fences was split, half plain fence and half ditch and you had to jump the ditch part on the third circuit. In this race all the field except Buckingham jumped the fence part and Buckingham jumped the ditch. He took it easy after that on the basis he was going to win in the stewards or lose there. He was getting a b0ll0cking for not trying from the owner when the stewards was announced. I imagine the owner had to eat a fair amount of humble pie!
