Seen a few rumours that Betfair is going to be moving more down the Fixed Odd market and pulling out the exchange side of the business. Anyone heard this story.

would be good coz then the purple site would get all the liquidity.

Cant see the that. The exchange is a profit for nothing secnario. Why shut that. They even take extra money off us lucky punters  in the way of premium charge. WIN WIN WIN, they won't stop that. Certainly hope they dont.

To WIN MORE.The fixed odds market will be working off a margin exponentially higher than the exchange,if at some stage in the future  they could retain enough off their market share on the fixed odds market,Their model has changed completely since the ipo.

Betfair is in essence a financial ponzi scheme, with their own earning and turnover being subsidised by their own bots.

If they do it will not be long before another company starts up and most will go there so don't see this happening myself.

BUT - it ALSO applies to THIS thread, too!

Betfair moving to Fixed Odds ONLY - and giving up their 'No Risk' commission from an Exchange platform  =

BUSINESS decision SUICIDE.
Report swift-tuttle November 6, 2012 11:04 AM GMT
yes onlooker , agree with those sentiments

the slow and steady way is to continue collecting commission from exchange bets - I don't see a downside to that myself

but it's obviously not quick enough

Ratneresque type business call imo
Report The_E_Dead_Group November 6, 2012 2:59 PM GMT
There are certain activities that take place on this site that betfair would probably not get away with when dealing direct with punters. These have to be done through their 40-60% franchises.

"Where did you see the rumours ?" Still no answer.

Seen a few stories on Twitter from people in the industry. I know it's not entirely reliable, but no smoke without fire.

They have no choice but to go to fixed odds on horseracing, the exchange will limp along but turnover is seriously falling on horse racing and will be even less in years to come as its not the business model it once was that makes them the most money, fixed odds is where the money is
Report Jack Bauer '24' November 6, 2012 3:29 PM GMT
You would have to be retarded to bet fixed odds on here.
Report artie November 6, 2012 3:41 PM GMT
Unless they offer BOG, they can't possibly compete.

lol do you ever look at oddschecker?  there are 99-101% best price books all over the place.  Befair has no chance of competing with the likes of pinny (present problems excepted) for sharper lines or the high street bookies for the mugs bets.  btw presumably OP has misinterpreted comments about certain regulated markets eg Spain.

"Turnover is down on here".
Fancy that.
A Worldwide recession and PC on those who do not bet In Running might have something to do with it,imo.
Report Galitzin November 7, 2012 8:38 AM GMT
They have a monopoly in a money to nothing venture. They wouldn't give that up even if they make a success of fixed odds.
Report Apologist November 7, 2012 9:07 AM GMT
This idea must have come from their IT Development Team.

Now they have delivered the 5 star new site they are ready to further enhance our 'Betfair Experience.'
Report ManOnTheSpot November 7, 2012 10:42 AM GMT
I can see a buyout coming in the future as it must be a major concern than the
money in betfair exchange markets is 80% lower than it was in it's peak.

As I have said, once Betfair took on the big boys with fixed odds they were doomed.

I can see a bookmaker stepping in here, to control the SP markets and use
the 'In Play Market' as the real exchange and laying off tool.
Report G1_Jockey_4 November 7, 2012 11:07 AM GMT
like i said
if it happens purple will become the main player and imo will d a betetr job of it
Report longbridge November 7, 2012 2:31 PM GMT
@ManOnTheSpot - where's your 80% figure come from?
Report book November 7, 2012 2:49 PM GMT
its well overdue, when is someone going to bail people out of this mugging premium charge, sooner the better.
Report PCstar November 7, 2012 4:26 PM GMT
they have to do something I have never seen a gold mine in decline but this shambles of a company
had an exchange that was brilliant years ago - now it is bronze age
