A Non-Runner - will have been announced as such - ANY time between the Final Declarations and the Start of the race.

'WITHDRAWN' - is a term used when a horse - ALSO- becomes a NON-RUNNER  - But at a LATE Stage ... such as ...

Refusing to enter the Starting Stalls - Found to be Lame at the start, and WITHDRAWN on the Starter's Orders etc.

BOTH terms indicate a NON-RUNNER.

A certificate (VC or SC) is needed for a NR?

Hi onlooker. Thanks for your answer.

So, generaly, a "pure" non runner is known in advance.
Whereas a withdrawn horse is known after the beginning of the race, nay after the end of the race ?

By "known", I mean on betfair, on the market.

Often, confirmed - " after the end of the race ?"

BUT - More often that not - The commentator will say something like ...

"They have gone WITHOUT such and such, who refused to enter the Stalls"

Or - If a little earlier ... When the cameras are still behind the Stalls ...

"It looks like they are going to give such and such one LAST chance - followed by - (If still being mulish) - NO, Such and Such has been WITHDRAWN on STARTER's Orders and  they are going WITHOUT it."

----------------
Yes - NON-RUNNERS will be Taken OUT of the Betfair Markets, as soon as they are known.

If a horse is WITHDRAWN at the START - It will also be Taken OUT of the market ... Only IF Betfair have enough TIME to Suspend the Market - REMOVE the horse - and then RE-Open the Market - BEFORE the race Starts.

HOWEVER - When such a WITHDRAWAL is LATE in the Loading Process -

- Betfair, quite often, have to leave that horse in the 'In-Running' Market - and then REMOVE it, and apply the Reduction Factor and Revised ODDS AFTER the race has finished.

Ok, great answer ! Thanks a lot.

I lose a lot of money on almost each Withdrawn horse ... This is my nemesis.

But since I know that this is not the fault of betfair, and that everybody is more or less in the same case, I have to deal with it.

A non-runner is an imaginary animal that in the past would not have been loaded onto the horse box from its stables and at 9 am every punter would have known the declared runners for that days races and could bet accordingly...

A "non-runner" is after 48 hour decs a more frequently mentioned beast.Shedloads are withdrawn during the day to upset what remains of horse-racing punters.Trainers do not have to give a reason why they are taken out of a race and they see no reason to make an effort to tell anyone else. There is much scratching of heads why the "Levy" has fallen.....

Oh and I forgot to say that there is a Reward for the trainer who takes out the first horse in a 16 runner handicap.....

Homefortea I wouldn't have expected an oracle such as you to subscribe to that old wives tale.

------------------------------

What on earth are you on about? .... or ON?Grin

You CANNOT "Lose Money on WITHDRAWN horse."

It simply becomes a NON-RUNNER - and any BETS on it - Both BACKS and LAYS become VOIDED - with ALL STAKES RETURNED.
-------------

If you mean that you end up having a BACK bet on a Horse settled at say, 2.5 - instead of your original bet at 3.0 - BECAUSE of a different WITHDRAWN horse in a race .... Well ..

That is simply because there HAS to be a REDUCTION Factor applied - (Same as/like Rule in a Betting Shop) - to accommodate RETURNING those Stakes on the WITHDRAWN Horse/NON-RUNNER -

This, naturally, and correctly, Reducing the Odds on EVERY Horse left in the race.
