By James Burn racingpost.com FOLKESTONE'S fixture on Tuesday is subject to a 7.15am inspection.
Overnight lows of -2C were not forecast so clerk of the course Neil Mackenzie Ross will check conditions on the morning of raceday.
"The forecasts did say along the coast we'd be above freezing last night, but it didn't happen and it looks like a similar frost will come tonight," he said on Monday morning.
"There is some frost in the ground, but the sun is getting up and we fully expect the frost to come out today. It will be similar tomorrow so in view of that we've called the inspection."
Daytime temperatures on Monday are set to be 5C and around 2C overnight.
The going for the meeting - set to start at 1.30 - is good, good to soft in places on the chase course and soft over hurdles
OFFICIALS at Fakenham will inspect the course at 1.30pm on Monday to see if Tuesday's fixture can go ahead. Temperatures reached -5C at the track on Sunday night and while they could rise to around 7C on Monday the overnight temperatures into Tuesday are likely to be low again.
"We'll inspect at 1.30pm today which is about race time tomorrow and assess the ground and if it's raceable," clerk of the course David Hunter said on Monday morning.
"If the frost has come out by race time today we've got a fair chance and can look at the forecasts and further inspections."
The going at Fakenham is described as good to soft (frozen in places) and racing is due to start at 1.20
It is beyond belief that in 2012 clerks of courses just cross their fingers and hope for the best.
Both courses should be putting down frost covers,as should every racecourse when their is a danger of a meeting being called off due to frost

Of course they work. Thick would be a huge under statement for your good self.
Delta, well that shows what a sad state of affairs our sport is in. Fakenham do the same as they did 50 years ago, bugger all, that is progress for you

cant afford it ? a large duvet would cover fakenham, must be the smallest nh track in the country. When courses like Plumpton can cover every time there's a threat other tracks should hang there heads in shame.

Probably not financially viable for a small track to cover a course on a Tuesday given the likely attendance if they save the meeting. Folkestone will be on anyway judging by the weather forecast.

FOLKESTONE will hold a second inspection at 10am for Tuesday's card after an initial check found the course to be unfit for racing.
Temperatures dipped to -3C overnight at the track leaving the exposed areas covered with a frosty crust according to clerk of the course Neil Mackenzie Ross.
He said: "Where there is grass it's fine. The forecast is for 7C and for plenty of sun so as long as the sun gets up and the temperature gets up I expect to see improvement. I think it's worth persevering with."
Folkestone is one of two meetings scheduled for Tuesday afterFakenham was lost to frost on Monday. There are no problems reported at the other fixture at Ayr.
