carroll actually shouldve been on from the start as ive no doubt the was a cross or 2 in the first half that he wouldve troubled the keeper with.

all he has is that, but he earned a start after the great goal he scored i thought.

hes a lazy sh!te tho, and gives away far too many frees. one in particular was pretty bad and the ref didnt even give a free for it. he was better than roo but then that wouldnt be hard the way hes played last 2 games.

Carroll should have been on from the start is about the only sensible thing you've said in this whole thread ilikewavingatbuses but I suppose taking 8 pages worth to is better than not doing it at all and you only spoilt it be going back to form again and talking more of the same questionable logic.

You're saying he's lazy but what's the point running backwards and forwards between an opposition's back four that just passes the ball between them playing piggy in the middle with him if he is the only one doing so? The rest of his team mates are sat so far back behind him that nobody else was closing down the back four players knocking the ball around between them, so all he would be doing is running around knackering himself unless he got help and it was the same thing the Liverpool players were doing when you brought up Carroll's supposed laziness earlier in the thread? He can't take on and close down the back four all by himself can he?

Most of the free kicks given against him were unjustified play-acting anyway by the Italians and he should have had a few himself too but clearly the referee only takes Euros and not Pounds..........I take it too you must have gone for a sh1t while Carroll was winning clearance headers in defence, aerial flick-ons or taking it on his chest and playing it on mainly to nobody because England were so negative and hardly crossed the halfway line in the latter part of the game.

He needs wingers to go passed the full backs, get to the byline and put a cross into him from out wide for him to head in or knock down for others to score from and how much supply of that kind of thing did he get?

u praise him for literally everything he does. these are normal expectations of a him ima, this is the 8th most expensive player ever, his 'flick ons' practically never reach one of his teammates, hes clumsy, he runs like a giraffe, he falls over by just running, nobody even has to be close to himLaugh but i suppose if they got a few crosses in to him he might have done something given his size. he did nothing once on but deserved a place in the starting lineup as rooney has been worse.

andy still a 35mill dud, he'll never justify it, ever, the price tag is too big for him, if he wins liverpool the champions league and englan the world i MIGHT revise my opinion of himBlush

i  think ill let this thread die now. feel free to bump it when he puts one past norwich from time to to time, of when he might flick it on to suarez and then he puts it away as if he has some kind of extraordinary skill, desperateLaugh commenting on ANY  positive move he does because as an overall player he is very very average and so lazy.
Report ima_mazed66 June 25, 2012 10:36 AM BST
I do see the reason for running down the ball and pressuring the opponent but my point you've obviously missed is it's pretty pointless doing it if you are the only one doing so and up against a back four and keeper they way it's easy for the school playground bullies to nick the smaller kid's book and throw it around between a few of them with the kid running backwards and forwards and not really getting anywhere unless someone else helps him.

Again you clearly miss the point then when a player flicks the ball on, he usually does it via a punt up field from the keeper or a defender and does so with his back to goal and there has to be someone close enough to him (and the more the merrier) in order to pick up the flick on, which isn't easy to do when none of his team mates are within a dozen or so yards or him and often aren't even making a run while the ball is in the air to get in front of the player waiting to flick it on, despite them knowing he will often win the header to flick it on anyway.

I don't praise him for everything he does because I obviously realise he has his limitations and there are certain things that he can't do and so you play to his strengths and give him the chances to do the things that he can. Although I do think he can do a lot more than he is given credit for anyway but there would be little point in playing Walcott as a centre forward and then putting in loads of high balls from out wide and expect him to win the aerial battles against taller and more aerially dominant defenders, and yet when he came on, how many times did any England wingers or attacking overlapping full backs put in a decent cross in a dangerous area for Carroll like the one Gerrard did for Lescott against France for his goal or against Sweden for Carroll's?

He's already done the flick on for Liverpool too by the way, against Man United in the FA Cup for Kuyt to score the winner and knock them out in the 88th minute. The goal came from a kick from Reina's hands and when you are level with 2 minutes left, do you want your keeper rolling it out to the full back and have your team play a dozen tippy-tappy passes and not even cross the halfway line before the full time whistle blows or would you like him to punt it up the field for a big target man to win in the air and flick on for someone to score the winner?

no hes not being singled out for his performance in the euros. he had disappointed badly when i started this thread and the night in question was a match (cant remember who) but he was just terrible, didnt once try to even run, awful attitiude and my point was, not only was he not scoring goals but he wouldnt even work one iota after he was bought for an incredible 35mill and that was my point, he wasnt worth it. however ima mazed seems to think he was, or atleast we should wait until the end of his career and then decideLaugh

he had a very poor start for us but his effort and attitude improved towards the end of the season. he needs a good supply of crosses and both at liverpool and england these were not forthcoming.

you are right that his attitude was poor but he has definitely be trying harder, you either play to his strengths or don't bother.england don't keep the ball long enough or have enough quality width to supply him, the only supply has been from set pieces.

there is a general lack of quality wingers these days imo.

LOL....ilikewavingatbuses you seem to be preoccupied enough with forming your own opinions so please don't overstretch yourself and try to give me mine, as I can assure you having an opinion is not really something I ever need much help with. Nowhere have I ever said Carroll was worth £35million so I'm really not quite sure why you are saying that. When you have worked out yourself why you did, maybe you could get back to me eh? Happy

I've even said numerous times that Liverpool paid over the odds but so did Chelsea for Torres so that helped soften the blow and there would have been uproars from the Liverpool fans if they had sold Torres and didn't replace him and time was running out due to the transfer window.

What you have also neglected to point out is that since you made this thread, I was saying he needed a run of continuous games in the Liverpool side to show his worth and once he was getting that he started playing well and scoring, just as he did when getting the winner in the league at Blackburn, winner in the FA Cup SF and 2 goals in the FA Cup final, although one was wrongly not given and he absolutely terrorised John Terry in the few minutes he was on and then did the same to him and the whole Chelsea defence in the 4-1 game at Anfield a while later and to the extent that this was what Essien had to resort to stop him.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wS9nYTZ_lb8

The fact Roy Hodgson took him to the Euros also suggests that you are off the mark with your judgement too and he was reward for his faith with a stunning headed goal against Sweden.
Report ilikewavingatbuses June 25, 2012 2:13 PM BST
yes he did alright. he was better than rooney. this whole threads point however is losts its way as it has become some kind of oneup manship.

if anyone had seen the game i watched, you would have been sick to think that this player cost 35 million and was completely unproven. i can handle mistakes, it happens, even messi misses the odd sitter but carrolls work rate alone that night was disgraceful so i started the thread. he can regularly be seen just faffing about the pitch jogging towards the defender and his aerial ability alone is not enough for him to be valued and such a ridiculous price. of course ima mazed then questions the post saying we dont know what hes worth yet, he still has a lot to prove etc etc and that he may we justify the price but sure that could be said about absolutely anythingCrazy and i think its fair to say he has not justified the price so far, that pic i just put up was a dive against newcastle when he was thru on goal, all he had to do was shoot, it was a one on one and he just fell overCrazy

he regularly just falls over aswell, i think he has balance issues, he gives away stupid free kicks and is v sloppy, legs all over the place, i once saw a ball pinged up to him and he turned the other way and it hit off his backCrazy

then on the off chance he actually scores or finds another player with a pass, ima mazed ttts the thread to say how foolish i look just because his idol has actually made a competent pass Crazy quite laughable really and if u dont agree with him, youre just agreeing with the media and dont have an opinion of your ownLaugh. im happy that this thread was justified because he has done some good things and is a player of a certain ability, and he scored a fine header the other night (needless to say they were on here as i i looked like a t!t and the 35 million was justifiedLaugh) but all in all he has been a huge disappointment. the service argument is a moot point because although i undoutedly agree if he got more servise he'd score more goals such is his style of play and size but the fact is he doesnt get the service so where does that leave us? what, he WOULD HAVEjustified the 35 mill IF he got the service? then if u say heading is his best attribute, ima will tell u hes scored 29% of his goals with his head and 41% with his feet whilst looking through his hands , upside down pointing towards mecca to the point that he bores the fooking pants off u and is blatantly ignoring how he has just played.

again, my point was, he cost 35 million pounds and he quite simply plays like he does, combined with his terrible attitude and unwillingness to run and when he does run its rarely over 5 miles an hr in a kind of giraffe like jij joggy fashion, but hey, maybe at the end of his career we can say, dya know what, 35 was a bargain, although somehow i doubt it.

Liverpool would take £20m hit to move on England striker Andy Carroll

A £10m Newcastle bid to buy their former striker back cannot be ruled out

Liverpool are prepared to accept a £20m loss on Andy Carroll this summer but with no optimism at Anfield about him commanding even that kind of price, a loan deal is seen as a way of building up the value of the most expensive British player of all time.

Losing more than 50 per cent of the £35m they paid to Newcastle 18 months ago would be punishing for Liverpool. It is possible that the 23-year-old player may be left in a state of limbo under new manager Brendan Rodgers and will face another difficult season at Anfield where he has not impressed so far.

West Ham United and Fulham emerged as possible contenders for Carroll's services last night, with Sam Allardyce keen to take the player on loan with a view to a £15m deal and Fulham ready to offer Clint Dempsey plus cash, according to reports. But the player's £80,000-a-week Anfield wages will be a severe obstacle to such clubs, even though the prospect of reuniting with his friend Kevin Nolan at West Ham would appeal to Carroll.

Milan have indicated they may be willing to take Carroll on loan but a £10m Newcastle bid to take the player back cannot be ruled out – particularly if Demba Ba triggers the release clause in his own contract at St James' Park, with Liverpool having a long-standing interest in the Senegal striker. The appeal of Carroll to Newcastle will not have diminished now that their pursuit of the FC Twente striker Luuk de Jong has fizzled out, with the Dutchman having confirmed Borussia Mönchengladbach as his destination of choice.

A Dempsey-plus-cash deal may appeal because Rodgers, a deep admirer of the American, is also looking for a player to carry out the attacking role from midfield that only Steven Gerrard in the current squad is capable of. There has been no approach to Fulham for Dempsey and no movement seems imminent on that front

With Liverpool's and Fulham's valuations of him likely to differ considerably, Dempsey is a player to whom Rodgers may return later this summer if other attempts to strengthen his attack fail. Having insisted on the director of football responsibilities at Anfield, Rodgers is determined not to push Fenway Sports Group for deals which would represent poor business.

Dempsey is 29 but the fact that he would provide no sell-on value would not be a problem for Rodgers, who sees him as a player who would fit into the kind of 4-3-3 system he envisages for the new season. But Dempsey's departure would deprive Martin Jol's of a key component – which points to a likely disparity in valuations.

Rodgers, who wants to conclude two signings this week, has said he will give Carroll the chance, during Liverpool's pre-season tour, to prove his willingness to apply himself to the professional disciplines that are such an important part of his managerial philosophy.

However, Rodgers' interest in both Roma's Fabio Borini and Dempsey suggests he is looking elsewhere for strikers. There was an unmistakable impression from his public discussion of his new squad on Monday that he has already decided which players conform to his plans. Roma yesterday confirmed Liverpool's desire to buy Borini. "There is a real interest for Borini," said sporting director Walter Sabatini.

Rodgers says he has had frequent text contact with Luis Suarez since becoming manager, which he views as a good pointer towards Liverpool fending off any attempt by Juventus to lure the Uruguayan to Serie A, following his difficulties last season in the Premier League.

"We have exchanged lots of texts," Rodgers said. "He sent me a text on the first morning, wishing me luck. He has really bought in to what we are trying to do. He was really excited about how we played at Swansea last year. He is really keen and looking forward to playing in a similar sort of model."

Of an extension to Suarez's contract, which runs to 2016, Rodgers said: "There has been good dialogue. I would hope going forward that we can close that out." He suggested Martin Skrtel's questions about the club's ambitions had been answered and that Daniel Agger also wanted to stay.

ANDY Carroll may be allowed to roam free amongst his kind once more as Liverpool consider an offer for his rehoming.

The undomesticated Geordie has had an unhappy time since his capture and display at Liverpool, despite the club’s best efforts to recreate his natural environment by keeping his pen stocked with WKD and edible nightclub bouncers.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rogers said: “Newcastle have offered to release him into the brutal but beautiful landscape of the Bigg Market where he can gallop after hen parties to his heart’s content.

“While it would be a shame to lose such a magnificent specimen as Andy, but when he’s hardly touching the pies we toss into his pen you have to concede he’s not happy.

Rodgers is now looking into the practicalities of transporting Carroll back to Newcastle, as long journeys present the risk of stress and injury in his containment pen.

The manager will work with the handlers in the England camp who organised the thousand mile journey from Liverpool to Krakow for Carroll for the Euro 2012 tournament by recreating a strip club in the hold of a cargo plane.

Liverpool will take a massive loss by releasing Carroll but hope to make the most of his enclosure by replacing him with Manchester City’s Tevez. The club’s keepers feel it is the environment the striker, who has frequently escaped from Manchester City to return to his homeland, may be looking for.

Rodgers said: “I think we’ve learned a lesson that you just can’t keep Geordies in captivity, however much they may fascinate us, as it can do terrible things to them – anybody that saw the Beardsley they had here years ago will tell you that.

ANDY Carroll will play for Liverpool against Newcastle this weekend in the hope it will trigger memories of his former behaviour.

Since his move to Liverpool, the semi-tame £35M ponytail-stand has struggled to remember what he used to do on Saturdays in between getting out of bed and getting incredibly drunk.

Anfield staff have had to shoo him away from the ticket booths and burger stalls, where he was caught trying to put on an apron, as Carroll continues his confused search for meaning.

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish said: “Every Friday night for the first three months we would find him near the Pier Head, making a keening noise for the Toon.

“Nevertheless, we’re hoping that in 90 minutes he can regrasp the rudiments of a sport he’s been playing since he was a foal and reduce my looking the **** by enough of a margin to explain the whole Jordan Henderson confusion.”

Carroll will be transported to the 'Two Tracksuits For £10' stadium in Newcastle in a soundproofed box to stop him breaking free and galloping amongst his herd along the Tyne Quayside demanding t1ts be outed for unspecified lads.

Dalglish is hoping that the sight of several goals inevitably sailing into Liverpool's net will awaken some primal urge in Carroll to make his £8M-worth of leg do what it used to as a matter of instinct.

Assistant manager Steve Clarke said: “We used to rub the goal net with a piece of Dirk Kuyt’s bedding to entice him, so I’m sure it’ll work with Andy so long as there’s no scent of skank in the crosswind to confuse him.”
Report BarryGrant July 16, 2012 5:36 PM BST

ima seething

LOL.......why would I be seething, I could be a West Ham fan for all you know. Wink

As it happens though I'm an Arsenal fan and reckon this is a great move from my point of view as it's made a top 4 rival weaker now. Happy

Apart from he hasn't gone anywhere permanently, if he does later get sold then this proves my very point made earlier in the thread about his age and potential length of time at a club if he stays at Liverpool or has sell on value if he leaves.

The trouble is now with so many foreigners owning English clubs and many with no footballing backgrounds, managers and players aren't given time and so none (especially the foreign managers) will take a risk and give players time and they certainly wouldn't do anything that benefits English players and the English national team. Carroll played well towards the end of the season when getting a run in the team and carried that on with England but if Dalglish had been sacked at Christmas and Rodgers came in then, Carroll wouldn't have even had the chance to show what he did at that time.

I've never really understood new managers coming in and not at least giving a player the chance under them and seeing a player in snippets on the telly as opposed to in training and for full live games is an entirely different matter. Surely you have to give a player the chance to fail for you first before deeming him a failure and look at how Darren Bent did at Sunderland after Harry Redknapp inherited him but then sold him on?

I think Carroll will do well at West Ham as you would think they would play him regularly and play to his strengths and Liverpool might then take him back, but he's on a hiding to nothing in some respects because if he starts scoring freely for West Ham the way he was at Newcastle then people will say both of those teams are about his level, even though he would be scoring against the same teams for them as he was/would be for Liverpool so that makes no logical sense at all but if he were to flop there, which is possible due to going to a smaller team with lesser quality team mates then people will say see, he's not even good enough to score for a newly promoted team.

i think he will do well at west ham tooGrin

night ima.
Report ima_mazed66 July 31, 2012 12:28 AM BST
That's assuming he chooses to go there as it's only the clubs that have agreed it but he still has a say himself and if he went on loan you would think he would prefer Newcastle.

But goodnight anyway ilikewavingatbuses......oh and I do realise you are on a wind up at times but also realise you still believe what you say all the same. Happy
Report ilikewavingatbuses July 31, 2012 12:56 PM BST
yes i do try to wind up alrightGrin

i can appreciate carroll is not devoid of ability, i do feel hes a lazy one dimnesional footballer tho. i started the thread out of his pure laziness that night. i know u say maybe hes not expected to have to do  much running and just be a target man but if i paid 35 million for a footballer. id want a bit more than that. i reckon the loan will do him good, he'll get regular game time and they might play to his strengths so it might alleviate some pressure!

Well at least he will get a proper chance at West Ham to show what he can do, which is more than Brendan Rodgers ever gave him at Liverpool. I also have a sneaking feeling that he will came back and bite Rodgers on the arse some time in the near future.

Funny isn't it that when a similar style powerhouse foreign player like Lukaku emerges he gets lauded for it but when an English one like Carroll does he's condemned for it.
