BHA charges five in corruption investigation By Racingpost.com staff 9:32AM 20 MAY 2011
THE Racing Post understands five racing professionals, including four licensed jockeys and one licensed trainer, were on Thursday night charged as part of the BHA's latest racing corruption investigation.
The Racing Post also understands two licensed owners have also been charged as part of the same investigation, while others could been named when the BHA makes an expected announcement on Friday.

Each of the jockeys have additionally charged with a breach of rule 243 in that it is alleged they communicated directly or indirectly to one or more betting exchange account holders, for material reward, gift, favour or benefit in kind.

i dont know if this has already been asked. But how can 'traditional' bookmakers be involved? you can only back horses to win with them?
No fishing on this thread. Cheers.

So this isn't a criminal case? Surely by their actions they are defrauding alot of people and the case should be treated in a court of law.
Do you not remember the Fallon Case debacle? Best way the BHA can hope to get these people out of the sport is to hold the investigation 'in house'. Not to say it is right that they won't obtain a criminal record mind - in any other walk of life, etc etc...

Come on dg1981. If you know that a horse at the head of the market is not going to win a race there are numerous ways of profiting from the range of bets offered by traditional bookmakers.

The BHA hands are somewhat tied in respect of any punishment being delivered in the the event of those charged being found guilty of the alleged offences, as the court convened is nothing more than a Star Chamber.

Aviboyd, like with most things it is our own opionion as we do not know all the facts......are most of us do not. But some people think there was minimal corruption before the exchanges. The real problem with the exchanges is that it is easier to corrupt a race...ie laying.

ts good to see theyre doing something although one cant help the absence of bg name jocks who clearly put in the odd 'suspect' ride that is simply indefensible at times.
cant help think the bha are just picking on the small fish!
im still not satisfied, want a shark, not a bunch of kippers!!
p.s- how does tony do it[;)]

It seems to me that the BHA only investigates rides when 'unusual betting patterns'occur. In their statement they say they want to re-assure the public that the vast majority of races are straight.Do they not watch Maiden races and handicaps where the sole purpose of running is to get a low handicap mark ? Who are they kidding?

Of course we're all supposed to believe the trainers of the horses involved were blissfully unaware of all the goings on?, and I presume the jockeys all still ride regulary for said trainers? and they saw nothing untoward with the rides given to their horses?.

Have you already forgotten the farce that was the trial of K.Fallon.Supposedly fixed races when the evidence produced showed that of the races he was supposed to lose his win % was higher than any jockey that year!!Let's wait and see what Struthers has come up with this time before jumping to conclusions. It's possible that the BHA is doing more to 'bring racing into disrepute'than anyone else!

They decided to go down the criminal route with Fallon. There was no way he could have been found guilty beyond reasonable doubt. The threshold won`t be that high this time

salmon spray 20 May 11 12:31 I thought they might have. Perhaps they should try enforcing it.
They did salmon spray. They clamped down on Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov. It's been suggested that Mr. Kadyrov has been involved in some overly boisterous activities in the past, and the BHA felt that he wasn't the type of chap who should be associated with British racing.

shame on these individuals. Let a lesson be learned from those others practicing such activities. You will be found - rather easily. Betfair hasn't the liquidity to hide such lays. What fools you are

What a surprise & disappointment to have it confirmed that Milczarek & Fairley are two of the charged jockeys.
If they're found guilty, those who have led them down the garden path should hang their heads in shame for wrecking 2 promising (imo) careers. Yes, I appreciate they could have refused to have gotten involved, but such is the naivety of youth, eh?

how can jocks get involved with people like this in the first place - are they born wrong? naturally stupid? greedy? ignorant?..surely being able to do a job which you love and most of us would give a right arm to do should be enough...clearly not though...hope they get the full book treatment - no sympathy at all

I cant remember exactly i think the horse was Salon backed from 20/1 to 6/1 five minutes before off drifted 6/1 to 20/1 Paul Doe's feet slipped out of irons coming out of stalls und immeadiately pulled up. It was about time of these cases. I reported it to BHA nothing happened. Doe shoul have been warned off years ago he's Brighton Mafia.

funny how most of the races being reviewed are ATR courses....perhaps they didn't want to risk the RUK team commenting on the rides....probably thought that the ATR may not be quite as "adept" at spotting anything wrong....perhaps allegedly [;)][;)]

Or the races where one of the fancied runners drifts badly just before the off and then misses the break, catches them up, runs wide on the bend and then is taken back inside to run up the back of horses in front. All this is accompanied by furious riding particularly towards the end of the race when all chance has gone. We all know the stables where when the horse is not supported it runs a completely different race to when the money's down. All part and parcel of racing and always has been but so much more obvious these days particularly with the exchanges.

Hitchcott was the jockey on Sherjawy, Doe has been charged with the following in relation to the race ..... additionally charged with a breach of Rule 243 of the old Rules of Racing in that it is alleged they communicated directly or indirectly to one or more betting exchange account holders, for material reward, gift, favour or benefit in kind, information relating to the prospects of the named horse. So draw you own conclusions.

How about examining some races involving the jockeys upto date - as a result of morning activity I had reason to pay attention to a particular race a few weeks ago where one of the five had plenty matched at 1.01 in the place market (let alone the win market) through a seemingly ill judged ride. Always trying!

the bha are gutless. the big stables will never be targeted because of who owns most of the horses.most of the nags involved in these races would have needed 8 legs in order to win, and to charge kirsty milczarek is stupid since her horse was running for the 2nd time in 24 hours,an excuse in itself, and they should withdraw the charge immediately, before she sues themfor defimation.

If the BHA banned all jockeys guity of riding non tryers there would be no racing. Anyone on here and watching the races will be aware of numerous instances most days, where horses are unsupported in the market and given very quiet rides, some more blatant than others but apparently unnoticed by the stewards.
