Did anyone take you up on this idea? I would be willing to join in, but as I live in Thailand, the cost of me phoning would be too expensive. If you have any takers, please let me know.

The £1.50 hotline is every bit as bad as the free radio tips (if you're looking for winners, that is)
However I've phoned it most days since Talksport got rid and it has been extremely profitable for the layers (I've put a few clues up on this thread over the past 2-3 days to illustrate this).
The downside is the cost of ringing him which used to average out at about £5 a call, but since losing Talksport he has managed to add an extra minute to the call to help balance his books. You get 4 or 5 horses a day (as opposed to 2 on Talksport) but you also get endless name-dropping, a run down of his diary for the next few days, an update about his son's rugby activities, various plugs for his racing club, a name check for any organisation that hires him for the day and, of course, the obligatory ho-ho-ho'ing. It can often be entertaining if you've got the stomach for it, but also quite bizarre to hear a 60 year old man acting in this way.
It can be expensive, but so far this month his tipping has been appalling and the cost of the calls has been easily recovered together with a decent profit. I'd be happy to drop in the odd clue on here from time to time, but I'm out of action now for the next few days so can't help for a while.

Sorry if you didn't catch the irony. There is something I missed when he went to Chesham on Tuesday last week, but the Buckinghamshire Examiner reporter took down his words of wisdom. I'll try to post it soon.

Mr Thompson's top betting tip of the day was to never gamble more than you can afford.
He said: "Never bet more than you can afford to lose, everyone needs to remember that. You must remember that a win is a win, it doesn't matter what the price of the horse is, it's always best to back a winner and you should never be put off by the price, the horse doesn't know what price he is."

He is opening another W.Hill shop in Flint this lunchtime. The purple site has some trenchant and truthful analyses of his tipping prowess, and there is no shortage of relevant reading on here either.

According to a tweet I've just seen, Alan Brazil, the well-known Scottish presenter, said this morning that there might be a racing slot returning on his football-obsessed radio station. Who knows, but TV's Top Man might be back again. Even just the selections would be welcome.

No Derek Thompson thread on here is complete without Artie. I must disagree with you for putting Michael Parkinson in third place. He would carry 12st 7lbs in my handicap.

Have heard that he tipped four for a yankee on Sunday without success. The latest on his website tells of loads of great priced winners. What a pity those tips stopped.

IF he was still tipping on the radio, I'm sure he would have gone for these today ...
2.00 F.L. A horse ridden by the champion jockey 3.05 F.L. A horse ridden by a jockey who's always 2nd in the championship 1.40 K. A horse named after a defunct racecourse 2.40 K. The only horse in the race with a Z in its name 3.40 Mey. The Godolphin horse which has never finished outside the first two. 4.15 Mey. The horse trained in Newmarket by an Italian.
This is just my opinion, of course !

Does he really think people think he is a good bloke .. I find him ,without question the person in the whole world who has the highest opinion of himself . This despite the racing public cannot stand him . INCREDIBLE >

I've not seen his name down for any of the preview nights (probably too expensive)
The excitement of waking up in the morning to find his tips pushed under your bedroom door will be immense.
At Market Rasen today you should be concentrating on R. Johnson's only ride at the meeting, and the horse in the 3.00 with three words in its name.

Yes, the website is worth a read. He did tip Palomar when it won at 3/1 over 2m on the flat. I think it was at Nottingham. Others on here have told me that e-mails to him about his tipping service are routinely ignored. If you like Twitter, he is @tommoracing.

All at Kempton today, (caution, biggish prices) An each-way on the Scottish trained horse in the 3.00, the father & son combination in the 3.35, the jockey with the double-barrelled name in the 4.10, and don't "forget" the horse running in the 4.45.

Layers might want to look at the Ffos Las card and consider a bottom-weight in a handicap ridden by R. Johnson, and also what T. Scu is riding in the last.

Layers of these tips also need to look at the 5.40 race at Kempton and consider a horse whose trainer and jockey have a surname which begins with the same letter.

He`s on ATR now. I usually have to switch over when he comes on but am sticking it out to see what it it is I dislike about him so much I am not being ageist,as unfortunately DT is 3 months younger than me,but it does strike me his style is past its sell-by-date. Very 80s. These days if you are OTT and obviously in love with yourself, there has to be an element of self-mockery. Chapman is an example. Unless I am missing something there is no hint of it in Thommo`s performance.

There is just so much there to dislike, isn't there? The false bonhomie, the commentaries at variance with the evidence on screen, the name-dropping, the relentless self-promotion, the pretence of having the knowledge and contacts to be able to give 'tips' on a premium line, and then extending the length of the call by relating his social activities, the incessant 'well-wishing' of his son in Scotland, and worst of all, he is just so much in love with himself. Some will consider the above unfair to a great personality and broadcaster, and they might even reply.
