Signing in!

Lucky Bubbles the obvious one for the Sprint at this stage. Important to remember how strong the HK sprinters are on home soil.

Jack Hobbs is available at 33/1 for the Vase. Gosden's most recent comments indicate that it is a distinct possibility he will go. If that's the case, what is he, a 6/1 shot?

Maurice seems to have Mile and Cup options. Tepin an interesting possibility for the Mile. Best horse in the race last night IMO.

love these races- getting harder though to work out.

So many Japanese runners that are hard to take a view on - plenty of unexposed types in all of the races im sure.

Anyone have any knowledge of a site in reference to looking up their runners i.e equivalent to racing post or alike

Trainers to look out for in the mile and Cup - local trainers who have great records in these races

John Size
John Moore
A Schutz
A S Cruz

Other notable Trainers who have history around there -

P F Yiu
C Fownes
R Gibson

Sprints have notoriously been won by Aussie imports - but in the last 5 years there has been a change but im always aware of Aussie/NZ bred sprinters when being trained by the local trainers - i also see the Aussie trainer Chris Waller has a few entered

Signing in for another year gone!!!

Trials this weekend chaps - AF making a comeback

I think the sprint is there for Aerovelocity if he stays fit. Maurice could be heading for the cup and Highland Reel will be difficult to beat in the vase.

Hope you are all doing well lads.

The big international G1 races have been coming thick and fast this month, cannot believe how quick this meeting creeps up on us but here we are again. Crazy

Looking forward to see how the big fella gets on tomorrow, he looked like he has lost none of his zest in the barrier trial, travelling strongly, I was pretty impressed with him considering how long he's been off. Able Friend will have to be on his A game up against some top class sprinters which include my new favourite HK horse Lucky Bubbles, hopefully his bubble will not burst!

The Japanese look like they will be sending over their biggest amount of runners ever for this meeting and the HK Cup looks like it will be chock-full of them, it will almost be the Tenno Sho (Autumn) Volume 2 if Maurice does line up. Queens Ring, the winner of last weeks QEII Cup (G1) is a confirmed runner with Mirco Demuro riding. She could be the dark horse in the HK Cup, improved runner this year and she has a very good turn of foot. My old pal Staphanos ran another cracker in the Tenno Sho (Autumn) 3rd behind Maurice, given too much to do from a wide draw like last year (backed him both times). He will have the services of Christophe Soumillon (confirmed runner/booking earlier this week). Staph will more than likely be my bet again this year but I will wait for the draw this time.

Japanese runners for the HK Cup:

A Shin Hikari
Maurice (HK Mile an option)
Lovely Day
Staphanos
Queens Ring

Big Arthur and Red Flax are the Japanese runners to look out for in the Sprint. Big Arthur didn't get a great ride in the Sprinter Stakes which Red Flax won but I was very impressed with BA's win earlier this year at Chukyo, powered home in a very quick time. He's one I will be keeping an eye on. The HK sprinters will be tough to beat though and as we all know the draw will be key.

All good Mr D - hope all is well with you.

One for me in the trials is Sun Jewellery, hopefully he's back to his best - I see he's 6-1 in the UK so I'll have a bet on that as I can't see him being bigger on HKJC

Thanks Dinos,

I use that website all the time.

Im absolutely gutted i didn't back John Moore's "Not Listenin'tome (AUS)" last night - wrote it down and had my head in my hands when i work up this morning and see the result.

You cant go wrong backing the trainers , that ive mentioned above, around Sha Tin.

Going to be interesting to see which of those Japanese entries are going to putting up a show this year - so hard sussing them out.

Not Listenin'tome has become a bit of a frustrating horse this year. I backed him on Dubai World Cup night when he never got into that race (drawn wrong side) and he hasn't really ran that great in any of his races since. Bit of a surprise how well he ran today but he is a horse with ability. Lucky Bubbles ran fantastic from well off the pace and was closest at the finish. Very consistent sprinter, hopefully he will be a bit bigger price on the day! Able Friend also ran well after a long layoff, the HK Mile would be the best option IMO.

Sun Jewellery ran a cracker HK, I thought he had it won for you but got mowed down near the line... very close.Cry

The HK Cup looks like it will be going back to Japan again this year, not sure what to make of the Jockey Club Cup today.

Mr D - I backed Notlistnen last run......

Happy with Sun Jewellery, but also very happy with Contentment (my ew bet) as he's one of my favourite HK horses, he gave them 5lb today and was running on again after hitting a flat spot, he ran a stinker previous run. Hope AF comes out of the run clean, that should put him right and on track for the Mile, he also doesn't seem to like being in among horses so it was a good run.

The Cup race was a weird result but the time was very good so it could prove to be a good horse who is improving  and he did quicken up nicely. He did run a decent race in a G1 last season when beaten 2 1/4 lengths by DOR over 2000m though today could have been his big target and he was trained for it whereas the others were getting a run under their belt (Military Attack) , can't really see anything to beat Maurice coming out of it though. Could see DOR, BS and MA in the Vase now.

I agree re Lucky Bubbles, I also think he ran on the part of the track today that was slowest, there seemed to me to be a slight bias about 3 or 4 off the rail, think he's the best HK chance.

Mr D - I backed Notlistnen last run......

Very frustrating HK... Strathmore is another one I will be keeping an eye on, first run after a long break today and it sounded like he was on the porky side. His weight should be bang on next time in the HK Sprint, he's not far behind the best of these!

Yep, Contentment will be on the short list for the HK Mile, good run today.

The form was turned up side down in the Jockey Club Cup, probably best not to take the result of the race too seriously. As you mentioned HK, today was not the main objective for the golden oldies!!!

The fields for the races will be announced this Wednesday.

I like the 9-4 Maurice with B365 for the cup.  The sprint and mile are a puzzle, I think I may back AF for whichever race he turns up for on the day, nothing pre raceday/draw for either race at the moment after yesterday!

Highland Reel if he goes Vase, but Heartbreak City is an interesting runner in that race.

I didn't back anything last week HK but it looks like we will get Live broadcasts for all Happy Valley and Sha Tin races... Exciting times.

Betfred, Coral and Ladbrokes punters in the UK will be able to place bets on the pari-mutuel pools in Hong Kong, following an agreement between the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) and the UK Tote.

The bookmakers will accept bets both online and in betting shops for the HKJC’s tote pools, although fixed-odds betting will not be available. SIS will distribute the live broadcasts.

Richard Cheung, HKJC’s Executive Director, said: “Given its tremendous legacy in the sport of horseracing, it is a great pleasure to welcome the UK to our expanding list of co-mingling jurisdictions.

“While we are certain that UK racing fans will be attracted to the world-class racing, especially with our Longines Hong Kong International Races looming on Sunday, December 11, our midweek racing, often at Happy Valley, is a perfect midday option for customers.â€

The HKJC anticipates making more agreements with UK operators in the coming months, as its co-mingling director George Irvine commented: “A high street presence is a must in the UK market, and this agreement will enable some of the world’s finest racing fans to participate in the excitement of Hong Kong’s competitive racing.

“This deal ensures Hong Kong racing will be available in thousands of retail betting outlets, while future agreements we are finalising will enable delivery direct to millions of UK households. Meanwhile, the placement of Hong Kong race cards in the Racing Post will reliably inform punters in a familiar style.â€

Sha Tin will be early in the a.m.!!!

Good luck with any bets.....I don't need to tell you where to find the decent form guides or who to look out for!!

Just doing the form for tomorrow, C+3 course so it's best to watch to see how the course is running from the early races, that would be my only advice for HV. Plus recently in the C5 races early n the card if magic man is on one that you can't work out why they are favourite or a shorter price than they should be - they do invariably win. Whyte hasn't ridden a winner for 18 rides and Callan for 31.

Report HKAccie November 22, 2016 1:57 PM GMT
Mr D - I like R7 and R8 tomorrow, but it all depends on how the track is running and if there's a bias away from the rail.

JM's ride in R7 EW as he should get a good run from trap 1 and get a run up the rail in the straight as they all fan out round the bend to the home straight (EW if he stays at the current price).

The 11 in R8 also EW as he's drawn well and could get a decent position in the run, danger is agin the JM horse if they are running on as there should be a good pace on and he'll be finishing down the middle if he gets a clear run from gate 10 - not always guaranteed on the C+3 course.

This Nuovo Record is a nemesis of mine - i backed her at Santa Anita last time out and the trainer said she didn't even have a race.

I dont accept that and i think she is a mare who is now on a downward slope - i will however back her tomorrow at DEL MAR as its a race that she should win on ratings and who she is racing against- the morning line price is 3/1 on equibase.

I was impressed with Able Friend's latest Barrier Trial, looks like the big fella is back to me... still got it!

Done the double (BWay) with Able Friend and Lucky Bubbles and added Strathmore in the HK Sprint at 33-1 EW (should have took the 50-1!!!). I would have backed Signs Of Blessing EW (backed him a number of times over last 3 years) but the HK Sprint looks like it will be run at a frantic pace and SOB will be taken on by a number of horses for the lead. I think this race will be set-up for a closer... Lucky Bubbles and Strathmore are the two for me. Jenny Chapman's paddock analysis of Strathmore before the Jockey Club Sprint has stuck in my head, he should come on a lot for his last run... which wasn't too shabby. I will have another dabble after the draw.

A fair few of the international horses have already arrived in HK, cannot wait for next week.

Mr D - you read my mind about AF.....but, he may bet a little too short now for me, I expect him to be near to fav on the day, I'm hoping he gets an outside draw as I think he does enjoy space and not being in among horses. Also beware of the other Moore horse in the race, he's had a better prep than AF and maybe should have won the recent trial race.

I thought Sun Jewellery looked to be coming nicely into form too so he may be the overlooked horse.

In the sprint Notlistnen also looked very well in the trial with AF, I think he's over priced at the moment considering his last run. It's definitely going to come down to the draw for this so I'm waiting until Thursday.

Highland Reel does look like the open goal, but they can miss (Kevin De Bruyne, Ronnie Rosenthal......), I think a live one is Helene Happy Star, he seems to be coming to hand nicely and 2400m will definitely suit him and at 20-1 you'll get a good run for the money.

The Cup I think one of my old favs could run well - Blazing Speed also at 20-1 ew but think the 1st place could go to A Shin again, he's too big a price to ignore.

More mind changes to follow during the week

It will be interesting to hear what John Moore has to say about Able Friend during the week, the vibes seemed good after his Barrier Trial... visually impressive.

The HK Mile looks wide open IMO, Helene Paragon was the unlucky one in the Jockey Club Mile. He got no run just when he was about to attack, he lost his momentum at the wrong time but finished very well. Agree with you HK regarding Contentment, he is the other one I like EW, both are 16-1 at the moment.

The majority of the Japanese horses in all the races offer no great value, the bookies are being very tight IMO. I will take on Maurice again, agree with BDJ, he got the run of the race in the Tenno Sho (Autumn). Designs On Rome is a big price if you ignore his last run, I think John Moore might have been soft on him after his Sha Tin Trophy win. He ran tough in that Mile win which was impressive, at the current prices he is the one for me EW. A Shin Hikari had another meltdown moment at Tokyo before the Tenno Sho (Autumn), he is very hard to predict!!! I've never backed him and it will stay that way. Hopefully Staphanos will drift on the day and finally get a good draw... Soummy might make the difference on him! Wink

The sprint is far too hard a race to have that much confidence so I'm doing 2 at decent prices as you can make a case for most of the runners. I think there may be a lot of hard luck stories and it may be better to be on the front and out of trouble.

I've reassessed the HK mile form, I think the Japanese horses have better form than the current HK crop (ex AF if he returns to his best). I'm not touching a HK horse in the mile apart from a sentimental bet on AF. I think a fit AF would destroy the current HK milers and a fit AF got beaten by Maurice last year, the 2 Japanese horse have to be on a par with Maurice so I'll back both of them in the race tomorrow.

I'm not knocking Peniaphobia HK, I can understand why you have backed him at that price. On paper last years race looked like it was going to be quick with the two Yanks running but it never happened that way and the Magic Man gave Peniaphobia and inspired ride (he really only had one option) from a wide draw. He set steady fractions on the front and made all pretty easy. You also had to be near the pace last year the way the track was riding (it might be the same this year)! I'm pretty confident this years renewal will be run quicker, Signs Of Blessing only races one way and he will go forward from out wide, Peniaphobia will surely go forward as well from Barrier 1 and he will drag some of the other HK runners with him. I get the feeling it will be run like the Chairman's Sprint Prize race... but you never know with some of these jockeys!!!

Logotype was on my shortlist for the Mile but his price (UK) has been too short for me, he's not the most consistent of runners but his got a good draw and he might get an easy lead from Barrier 2. The track work of other two Japanese runners has looked good this week... Satono Aladdin was a tad unlucky last time. The Mile is wide open, it's probably best to back a couple. John Moore seems very bullish about Helene Paragon... the complete opposite with Able Friend, he's very worried with his fitness and draw!

It looks like I will have to dip my toe in the HK pool with my Staphanos bet but his price is steadily trickling down, he's now 22 Win, 4.9 Place. Hopefully he will stay a double figure price!

Report HKAccie December 31, 2016 12:54 AM GMT
He was nowhere near fully fit, has come out of it well - not too sure what comes next as he won that well (beat horses that had won multiple races - even if they weren't in form). We do think he'll be very good over fences and still has some growing and strengthening to do.

Mr D - 2 things

1. Huntingdon Friday if on, ground may not be ideal but improved on last run so expecting him to go close.

Monday Sha Tin - near enough re-runs of the intl sprint and mile. Bubbles looks to have the sprint at his mercy and AF looked great in a recent trial so may go closer now he's fitter.

Good jockey booking HK... I know what will happen if I back him today!!!

If racing is on at Huntingdon I will chuck him in an accumulator with Bubbles and AF. Connections seem more confident with AF this time. Tricky races Monday.
Report MrDinos January 27, 2017 8:15 AM GMT
Well that was quick, Huntingdon off. Next time HK!

Running today Mr D, confident but there is an obvious worry about the ground

Well done HKA - stress free round !
Report HKAccie February 13, 2017 9:03 PM GMT
Cheers - we think he's quite a good prospect, especially when he goes over fences

Bloody hell, missed your post again HK!Cry Watched the race this morning and he won as he liked, lovely performance... looked fine on the softer ground as well.
Report HKAccie February 23, 2017 8:50 AM GMT
Today Mr D....confident despite 7lb ex, but the short space between runs could give concern.

MrD - Market Rasen today, very good ew chance, if he's improved as we expected then he should go close, the ground was completely against him last run
Report MrDinos April 17, 2017 2:20 PM BST
Howdy HK, cheers for the info. I'm pretty sure this will be a first for me... backing a horse running at Market Rasen! Hopefully KR will run like he did last time at the Market Rasen. Wink

Another solid run HK and some EW money in the pocket... shame he made a mistake at the last hurdle.
Report HKAccie April 18, 2017 1:25 AM BST
Another decent run, pace was against him completely as it was slowly run. Not sure he would have won but would have been a lot closer as the mistake took away all momentum. He jumped very well apart from that and is certainly going to be a very good prospect next season over fences.

Mr D - I can't believe Werther is 4-1 with B365 for the QEII cup, that's an amazing price, I think he'll be fav on the day
Report MrDinos April 18, 2017 8:29 PM BST
I think the price of Neorealism is very short but Vivlos did win impressively in Dubai and boosted the form of the Nakayama Kinen. Chuck in the fact he's trained by Noriyuki Hori (Maurice's trainer) and the Magic Man picks up the ride, I can completely understand why people have been backing him.

If there is any of the wet stuff around Werther will be pretty much unbeatable IMO, so 4-1 could be a big price... I hope it rains!!!GrinWink
Report HKAccie April 19, 2017 4:17 AM BST
Rain forecast for the beginning of next week.

I can't have Pakistan Star at the same price as Werther either, I think he's got 2l at least to find. I don't think Werther needs it wet either, he's won well on good and ran well on GF last run over 1600m where he was a little unlucky behind Rapper Dragon.

The week after is the mile G1 and I think BO will turn it around with RD. There's also an interesting G1 sprint on the same day with the new kid, Mr Stunning, taking on a G1 field. Aerovelocity looks way overpriced at the moment for that at 7-1.
Report MrDinos April 19, 2017 7:50 PM BST
Like a few others I've been having problems posting on here, two went down the gurgler!!! Google Chrome and Android problem by the look of it... Microsoft Edge no problems.

Totally agree regarding Pakistan Star HK, he shouldn't be the same price as Werther. I don't think Werther is ground dependent but IMO he will have a bigger advantage if it does rain. For me his winning performance in last years QEII Cup was his most impressive and that was on yielding ground... I'm not sure the others will appreciate it like him.

It will more than likely be lovely, warm and sunny weather, if it is I might take a chance on a horse I backed a couple of times last year. Dicton at 20-1 EW is the one I'm leaning towards, he was given some iffy rides by Peslier IMO and I've always thought 10f could be his best trip (they keep running him over 8f). He ran an OK prep at Chantilly and that should have put him spot on for this. I'm going to hold out for a bigger price before I have a dabble.
Report MrDinos April 19, 2017 8:13 PM BST
It should have been Saint-Cloud not bloody Chantilly! Tongue Out
Report HKAccie April 19, 2017 11:24 PM BST
I think you'll be spot on with the weather, it may mean good ground rather than GF. The courses in HK do drain well.

One to watch or look at for the future is a horse John Size has, he's only a 3yo but looks a very exciting prospect, Nothingilikemore. He runs again this Sunday in a C2 over 1400m. Hopefully he'll go to the top in HK like Mr Stunning appears to be doing,
Report MrDinos April 24, 2017 8:28 PM BST
Nothingilikemore won impressively again HK, you were spot on and looks a very promising 3yr old.

After reading the first report (HKJC website) on Dicton this morning I decided to take the current price and back him at 20-1 EW. Looks in fantastic shape (photo/video footage from Sha Tin) and shipped with no problems which is what I wanted to hear. The top two (Neorealism and Werther) in the betting will be tough nuts to crack and I cannot split them... so I've gone with some EW value instead, hopefully he will run as good as he looks.

There doesn't appear to be much pace in this race which will be against Pakistan Star IMO and his current price does look way to short.
Report HKAccie April 24, 2017 9:48 PM BST
I'm not convinced the lack of pace will suit Werther too, Neorealism will have it all his own way out on the lead but I don't think Moreira will want it too quick to set it up for anyone. I'm leaning towards a small ew on an old fav of mine who will sit just off the pace - Blazing Speed. I know he's a bit hit and miss (even more so these days) but he has shown some glimpses this season and is worth one more go for me. I'll also have a win bet on Werther.
Report MrDinos April 24, 2017 10:36 PM BST
Yep, this is going to be very tactical with only 8 runners but out of all of them Neorealism is the one who will more than likely dictate matters. He lead from start to finish when he beat Maurice at Sapporo (1m 2f) and he does like to go forward in his races over 8f. He didn't settle that well in his last race when Demuro tried to hold him back a bit but he still won.
