what are attendances usually like
Report clacton March 16, 2020 11:44 AM GMT
Bags meetings= 1 man and his dog.(usually a greyhound). No need to stop them.
Most evening meetings dont get over 500 so cant see why any should be cancelled.
Restrict any big meetings like the Derby to 500 and things should be ok.
More people stand on underground stations and on trains every day.
Report clacton March 16, 2020 11:45 AM GMT
If things get worse then look at it again.

The government may call for a blanket shutdown of all stadium sports, just to show that they are even-handed in dealing with this crisis.
Report irishone March 17, 2020 2:15 PM GMT
Definite no
Report TELL DEL March 17, 2020 5:00 PM GMT
Obviously need to keep it under review, but greyhound racing behind closed doors, seems ok and the balanced thing to do. Because some business has to carry on if possible, unless we go into complete lockdown. Whole thing is bloody scary !

1 person @ a Kennel Sick that's the Kennel kyboshed, and any other staff that have been at a track that kennel was at , This thing is now hitting wildfire stage ,55,000 Latest estimate by end of next week you could be looking at 500,000 .We may get this week  but any further very doubtful  Sad Dogs will not be turning up Due to Kennel staff having virus ,Track staff who have had any contact Isolated , it wont work Sad

WTF I will do with myself Spec the weekend Sad
Report casemoney March 17, 2020 11:12 PM GMT
Looking @ the situation in Europe people not allowed to leave the House we will be lucky to see the weekend , I would expect a shutdownin next 24/48 , If this carries on for months it will be a total disaster to the sport Sad many kennels will fold Dogs not seeing a track for Months may never race again ,Be thousands of trials just to get dogs back racing ,it beggars belief when you think about it Plain

If any sport does need to carry on it is ours , Tracks will need to be left open even if Just to trial dogs , Not every kennel has a run ...

What will happen to all the Dogs with no racing or even a belt round in a trial ???
Report clacton March 18, 2020 3:10 PM GMT
Open races now cancelled after Saturday. That puts a few trainers out of business. How long will owners want to keep paying kennel fees with no chance of any return. At least graded dogs can keep getting prize money.
Casemoney is right, our sport really does need to keep going. Its not only people involved, its animals.
Well books better stump up the money
Keep them feed and well
Till they can race again
Only right they give few quid back to hounds keep the alive
So much owners joe public can do
Report sparrow March 18, 2020 3:55 PM GMT
Bookmakers won't be contributing anything as they are now asking the government for money because of the crisis.

From my post in the Horse Racing Forum.

"The government has been asked to provide emergency help to the gambling industry
1 of 1
By Bill Barber
UPDATED 7:51PM, MAR 17 2020

Gambling industry body the Betting and Gaming Council has given a cautious welcome to the "unprecedented" financial package to support the economy announced by the government on Tuesday evening, but is seeking more clarity on the measures.

Earlier in the day the BGC had urged the government to provide emergency help to save thousands of jobs across the gambling industry, which has been left reeling by the effects of the coronavirus outbreak.

It called for assistance with employment costs as a priority and has also asked for business rates relief and additional time to pay duties and corporation tax.

The news that British racing is to be suspended from Wednesday until the end of April will come as another hammer blow to bookmakers who have already had millions of pounds wiped from their share values in recent days.

Major operators Flutter Entertainment and GVC Holdings – the parent companies of Paddy Power Betfair and Ladbrokes Coral respectively – along with William Hill revealed this week that the suspension of sports events would reduce their earnings by more than £100 million apiece.

They also warned that cancellation of horseracing, along with betting shop closures, would further reduce earnings by tens of millions of pounds per month".
Report clacton March 18, 2020 4:06 PM GMT
Government giving help to bookmakers. Dont think that will happen. Plenty of MP's would like to see the back of bookmakers.

If greyhound racing tracks are able to operate behind closed doors and continue racing, they have a golden opportunity to fill the void of a vastly depleted betting market.

If punters have access to racing replays of previous runs for each greyhound i'm sure it would be a real incentive to get involved and have a bet.
Report westfour4 March 19, 2020 10:46 AM GMT
Greyhound racing will come to a halt. It is on the verge of being irresponsible given measures of travel changing daily and what you should be doing and not doing. You cant have a partial lockdown bordering on a full lockdown on non-important travel and events within society and then have greyhound racing carrying on. I know people are passionate and don't see a problem behind closed doors but that is not the issue. The industry has to do the correct thing and take the hit for the moment. Given the advice, I'm amazed bookmakers are open and from what I see completely empty. Well saying that our two have been pretty empty for a year now

I don't think I will be wrong in saying that Saturday could be the last day
Report track record March 19, 2020 5:08 PM GMT

suppose I could look at a1 and s1   because you would think the o/r dogs will run in them  ??

The Director of Regulation after discussions with senior members of the GBGB has decided with immediate effect to grant dispensation from Rule 63 iii a. This will enable trainers with open class runners to run in Invitation races at tracks providing the following conditions are met:

Trainers must be attached to the relevant track and prize money must be a minimum of the stadiums A1, S1 or D1 payments

Greyhounds would be graded on the racing strength after having two such Invitation races or a combination of races or trials in line with Rule 48
Report RothmanMike March 19, 2020 9:05 PM GMT
Westfour4,think you are wrong.
Things continually under review, and not closed now so should continue.
Only essential staff at tracks, inc 1 bookmaker per meeting.
Irish horse tracks continue to race, and even tracks in US that had closed, are now racing.
Report Captain carnage March 20, 2020 7:46 PM GMT
Surely no reason whatsoever to close other than weird stuff like `do the right thing', `everthing else is shut'.

Its safe. The welfare of thousands of dogs, jobs of hundreds of staff and the game itself is in jeorpardy if the game closes for any extended period.

It needs strong leadership and to remain unless there is Government intervention.
Report woodmanchester March 20, 2020 8:31 PM GMT
Government didctating everything. Frown on socialising thats why theyve closed pubs tonight

Army on standby to stop people going out (key workers apart) to enforce lockdown
Report westfour4 March 23, 2020 8:28 PM GMT
Thursday Lockdown unless you are going to a supermarket. parks and playgrounds shut but you will be able to take a walk keeping that social distance

Greyhound racing will come to a halt on wed evening.
Report privatehire March 23, 2020 10:41 PM GMT
Captain imo ur 100% correct. Implications now are mind boggling. Kennelhands in my day cash in hand imagine same these days. Trainers wont be able to pay staff with no income. Bookmaker tracks may also include money for kennel staff. Tracks who rely on bags money more likely go to wall. Imo this wont be a short term thing. This could go on for months. Welfare implications are huge.
Implications are terrifying
Report irishone March 24, 2020 10:31 AM GMT
I am rapidly heading towards a lockdown myself
Fake news everywhere, people contradicting each other
No one social distancing in evidence here
Lack of facemasks, gloves etc in hospitals

Two things emerge ...... YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN
And ,.......             LOOK AFTER YOURSELF
