I don’t know if I am right or way off the mark but a thought occurred to me about this £200 bond to be charged to any Irish owner registering their dog with a UK trainer, ostensibly for the Derby.
To be fair the gbgb were ( and are ) on a hiding to nothing here.  If they weren’t to charge it every other owner in the UK would (quite rightly) take umbrage at what would be seen as unfair preferential treatment to some incoming dogs and their conns.  Equally, if in the eventuality that some of these dogs didn’t return to Ireland ( as can and could possibly happen ) the gbgb would be again under fire for allowing them to continue racing here – bond-free.  They could hardly charge it later could they.  Could any bright owner send a dog over, knowing it was going to meet the trial requirements, then not run, then not return and stay racing over here, bond-free?  Who knows?
The problem is the bond itself.  Not at all a good idea in my view even if born of a very laudable sentiment.  The whole issue of “the bond”is a hashed up job and needs stopping in its tracks and remodelled to achieve the purpose.  Now, before it gets entrenched and difficult to stop.

Betting wise if you don't get in the 96 will that be deemed a non runner ? Or how will it work ?

Ante post is ante post, at no time has it been if you get into the race or not or are even entered in the first place. You get better odds by taking that risk it’s as simple as that really.
I do accept that this year being limited to 96 is a complete change to the situation normally but still can’t see how bookmakers could be asked to refund those not in the lineup while standing by the big prices they gave about the dogs in the 96 when those dogs only have 95 to beat.

Anyone got clue to what’s coming over or how from Ireland
Looking at some dogs prices 100 150 200
That might as well be 20000000/1 Cos either dead or on 3 legs or running a3 somewhere
Take Irish out oddschecker there will be some value cos be ok things running against average dogs
Derby jolly going be doomie he’s not won rd there as of yet

Sounds like IOF will be going for the derby then & encouraging he is trialling every week. What price should he be is an interesting question?
At least can be confident he will get in if entered I suppose.

I can imagine the cries of injustice, fix, etc; ad infinitum, which will flood the forum, media, etc; as dogs don't make the 96.  All sorts of cries, led by a regular rpgtv pundit, that it's all wrong.  Well it's not wrong.  It's getting us a Derby - so it's right.  For years and years and years it was a "select/invitation" type entry anyway.

Case, just for your information. Had £2 bets Bocko 3 days running now. 40/1 gone so had to take 28/1, though. Thought it would have been strange if they hadn't have let me back the dog again before June 2020
