That's hurdle racing for you.

To be perfectly honest it was the worst publicity the sport could ever have received on a high profile night, that was an embarrassment to greyhound racing.

Let's hope bling bling don't start a war

screwfest in the final aswell imo
|
By:
i have a feeling the hare driving was the issue in the final, theory being red was pulled off the track at 2nd bend by too close a hare9maybe slipped on the pulleys due to the rain) thenthe hare was whipped away in the panic as it was a mile in front down back 2nd time round

cabra has not broken into a gallop

If Cabra had won and then disqualified, Olivers Twist connections would still get the pot right?

Oops sorry! Bloody PC
|

astute as ever starr, it was a screwfest as czech says, but how much of it was down to the animals and how much was it down to the humans hare driving or track staff ? Don't think we will ever know
thought cabra could have done olly if it had kept its mind on the job |
By:
no 1st past post ,i feel i may have been hooked here .
|
By:
No case , I have a mindblock here....surely it would have been in bad taste for the McNairs to take the pot if they had won and then disqualified for taking Olivers out?
|
By:
If the 5 had won, then Olivers connections would have the pot.
The problem at Sheffield is not the Hare driver, as it is now all automatic. The performance at some of the trial sessions has to be seen to be believed. |

Sparrow: Mountjoy Comet was disqualified in an open on the Flat at Crayford last saturday week, (31st March)
|
By:
If a dog is disqualified it loses all rights in the race,so even if Cabra hadn won the prizemoney would have gone to Olivers.
|
By:
Correct pompey but as for betting purposes cabra followers would hav drawn but all academic
|
By:
Themadghost, Mountjoy Comet will soon be favourite for the Springbok, I would expect.
|
By:
dont know which one was worst cabra actually having ago or olivers waiting for england when it hit the front
|
By:
been waiting for someone to mention that !!!
|
By:
Not sure about Mountjoy Comet for next year's Springbok, howabout Boher Legend? They should both get through clearing trials though, shouldnt they?
|
By:
Anyway, couldnt they all just go for the Grand National?
|
By:
themadghost, Mountjoy Comet was sent over hurdles after waiting in front at Henlow last October.Just another example of a dodgy character to avoid.
|
By:
Sparrow: If Mountjoy Comet was schooled over hurdles after he waited at Henlow, why didn't they persevere with him? Especially as he's trained by Ricky Holloway who, I believe, has a penchant for hurdlers. He could have gone for this year's Springbok.
I think you'll find that the rule about settling bets at original results came about after the furore over "Not Flashing" being disqualified in the 1968 Derby semi-final which, if my memory serves me well, led to the eventual winner, Camira Flash, being promoted to run in the final! |
By:
themadghost, I would never try to work out Mr Holloway.
|
By:
eAlicia what planet are you on the mcnairs only train the dog the owners Brendan and Simon put up the £2500 entry money and would have been entitled to draw if possible
|
By:
As discussed on other forums, this is a grey area and one that im not convinced is covered in the Rules of Racing.
|
By:
I've always been under the impression that if a dog is disqualified it forfeits all prize money. Have they change the rules?
|
By:
Thats correct, but theres no proviso, or so I can see, where as the dog that finishes second gets the first placed money.
|
By:
Mash4077: I'm not exactly sure, but I've always had the impression that the prize money won by the subsequently disqualified dog is either given to the second placed dog or is equally divided between the other runners. I'm pretty sure it's one of these.

An extract from an article in "the Greyhound Owner & Breeder", (about 1952):
Windows of the Wimbledon judge’s box were smashed by ‘hundreds of angry punters’ after the track refused to disqualify a dog for fighting and thus void the race. The crowd dispersed when the police arrived. |

That might have been Sail on Valarie in the Dorondo Marathon?
|

The Wimbledon track management are hopefull the broken windows will be replaced before the start of this years derby
