Remains one of the most genuine bookmakers there is, most of them talk to you and you know they are lying through their teeth

Known him many,many times to lay a dog for, say, £500 when he has only £1,000 in the Bank..lol
Proportionately to his worth he his the boldest layer, by a country mile, considering I doubt if Tone has ever had £5,000 to his name but still surviving after about 15 years I should think.
I used to be with him at Catford as Bookmaker and before that a Punter for 10+ years...lol

I would have bet with you many times then SOMW, hardly missed a meeting for 20 years or so at Catford, his partner at one stage was Kim Johnson, is that you then ? Top man is Tony.

Tony is a nice bloke but a terrible gambling addict. Ball by ball on the tennis. In-running on the horses ( using the world's slowest link). Running round to the big ring at Romford to play the roulette in the C*rals shop there between races.

I once stung him for a good few quid, he told me he didtn't have enough to pay me as he couldn't get the bet off and that it could take a few weeks to get it, He did get it, he did pay me and couldn't stop appologising....... TOP MAN
would be nice to see him in the main ring.
He had 4 opportunities to go into the Main Ring at Catford but as nearly 70% of Catford Punters bet with the 2 straight books and John Hooper ( without) he declined and was still there when Catford abruptly shut in November,2003.
Joke was that Mr.Humphries did not want him in the Main Ring as TB is and presumably still is a maverick and so when on the last occassion he said "Yes!" he was turned away as JH thought that allowing 2 young Guys from Crayford was a safer bet and he could exercise more control over them, where he could not control Byerley.
Funny thing was that the 2 Guys were also Mavericks and laid a bigger bet than TB!...LOL

That was 70% already bet with him and the other Guy rather than the 4 straight books in the Main Ring.
