Five years time, how many tracks still open? No Sky dates for next year. No sponsor for the English derby. Marathon races getting less and less(although favourite type of race for many). Its looking very bleak.

it would be great if they gave a weekly open meeting a go, whichever time it started. If you were using public transport, you would not want it to end too late

Open meetings seem to be getting the cold shoulder though. Started going to Belle Vue again last year when they started Open meets on thursdays, but stopped them again earlier this year as they said it was costing too much to put them on. Graded fare is best for the bookies it would seem 7-2 the field x 6.

so the track will be going 2 meetings a week and one of them meetings ppl want to be opens LOL, if this happens owners at the track will walk away for good as u will be lucky to get 2 runs a month ( will be lucky if u get that with 2 graded meetings a week anyway let alone one )
Sorry but for wimbledon to have 1 open meeting a week it needs to get a third meeting and thats no happening anytime soon

gk as much as graders are the way into the sport for a majority, the public dont want to pay money to watch bad dogs!! opens at romford get a gd crowd, sky nights get ok attendances, not many are gonna venture out of a wet eve to watch run of the mill graders. Thats the problem the sport has, without bigger attendences etc the sport will get worse, trouble is by increasing decent open meetings you then limit those owners in the sport for some fun by their dogs not getting enough runs. A circle which isnt looking like being broken anytime soon

Yes I miss it also. Although Im a Wimbledon regular these days I used to love going to the Stow. Full of memories; first went I was about 18 and last went when I was 49. Some of the dogs we used to follow are now running at the Don and every time they run I think back. I also miss the Stow comp on here and was thinking of trying to organise a comp in the new year; maybe for Sky nights.

Same as Hopping, lost interest in going anywhere else because they don't compare. Also, because betting percentages are now farcical..
Surely even the most avid dog fan can see the game is not going to recover now and will soon fully be converted to a sideshow to attract drinkers.
Nothing lasts forever I suppose.

Stow judge knowing you as i do im dissapointed you call Romford a Khazi ive been there 8 years now and altough i miss the Stow everyday forget about the namw Corals , romford is rum by a caring professional management team who always listen and the best Racing managerin the country Having been invited back to Wimbledon when the Stow closed i found the Khazi you were talking about and i couldnt wait to come out again , your no stranger to greyhound racing so although some of the track management are nice they have no say so this is the GRA opposite to Romford they are unprofessional and uncaring Good luck with your track choice im amazed .
