Greyhound racing needs televised racing badly. As Sky seems our only likely source for tv coverage for the foreseeable future, I suggest that Greyhound racing fans should not place any bets with the firms that do not sponsor any Greyhound competitions shown on Sky. I presume that the Sky deal for 2010 will be announced soon and expect certain firms to not be involved. L@dbrokes did not sponsor any in 2009 and I doubt that they will be involved this year.

Thats a nice thought Huggy, but people are always going to
bet on what is best for them!
If a firm is offering a better price than elsewhere, you are
mad not to take that price! Also if that firm is the local shop that
you always go to, you are going to go there regardless!!
All bookmakers have faults, I hate High Street firms, I personally
only bet on here or the track bookies!
I hate Roger with a passion, but if he is offering the best price I
have my bet with him!

people should think of the longer term & let the occasional best price go by imo

I don't wish to sound sarky!
But are these big firms really going to be that bothered
if us Greyhound Punters boycott them!
As long as they have roulette, millarsfield and Lucky Numbers
they will be happy. Chance betting, not form betting!!

All they want is Mug Punters and pensioners placing their 25p
accumulators!

it's no good striking in December, Tainers should, make a stand, and strike, in May or June, just as the Derby warms up.

I put the above thoughts up 5 years ago, NOTHING has changed.

Spot.

At present Spot is there going to be a Derby???

They have no Sponser Yet!!

I am campaigning for the Firm with the proper Greyhound Forum
to Sponser it!!!!!!!! Falling on Deaf Ears I'm afraid!!

all the greyhound owners have to do is refuse to run there dogs in bags races but that is to simple for them to do or is it nudge nudge wink wink say no more

Again being honest, If bookmakers did not own the tracks
that they do, Prizemoney would be even worse.
I currently pay £7.00 + VAT a day.
Am I really going to pull my dog off the card and upset the RM?

We are trying to close the stable door, but the horse has already
bolted I am afraid. Lord Lipsey has killed our Sport!

prize money @ bookmakers track is far higher
Report Stow_judge December 12, 2009 6:21 PM GMT
part of the reason for this is that they award their own tracks most of the Bags fixtures, so get them on the cheap. The GBGB should control the sport, not the bookmakers!

Mustapha, I cant see the Firm with the proper Greyhound Forum sponsoring any UK race as they don't even pay into the fund. Do they sponsor any Irish dog races either?
The trouble is that its the BAGS that pays the books and pays into the fund and the multiples feel like they are subsidising open racing and paying for grants to competing promoters' tracks.
What can owners or punters do? Very little really. Bags trainers could threaten strike action, but can you really see them doing that when they are so dependent on those contracts?
BTW, correct me if I am wrong but wasn't the last time there was serious threat of a trainers strike was Catford over wlefare issues?

Hi CT,
Our sport is not irrepairable, but no one wether it be Bookmakers,
Track Promoters, TV producers, Punters, Owners and Trainers
ever seem to be pulling in the same direction.
There appears to be no Blue-Print on how we are going to save/improve our sport.
I basically think people are just trying to do the best for themselves
and 50D everyone else.
When Jim Reynolds tried to shake things up, he was shot down in
flames by his fellow trainers.

While I have been trying to shake up the Irish Exchange is because
I actually think it could be a good business move for them.
People have constantly tried to get Betfair involved, but although
they have sponserred some Greyhound events, they do not seem
that interested. I would think that when Dog Racing is on T.V
Betfair probably gains more than all the other firms together.
If the Irish Exchange set its stall out and said, Right, we are going
to have a big stab at Greyhound Racing, they would see a large
turnover in betting on the sport! (They sponserred a Big Horse Race today).
