Penetrometer

I'd like to see penetrometer readings taken before racing at greyhound tracks at various points on the circuit, and three average readings for inside, middle and outside. Obviously it wouldn't be perfect, but has to be better than the standard "Advance going: Normal".
Any thoughts?
