I walked it on Tuesday. The course is in magnificent condition and quite green. The R&A will not be watering the fairways.
The rough is thick between the ropes and the fairways, certainty thicker than when I walked Birkdale when Spieth won.
The run offs from the greens are razor sharp.

St George's is a funny course to
try to nail a type to back.

A good ball striker, who likes links
and hits form

First 2 I can just about do.

Clarke
Curtis
Norman
Lyle
Rogers

One thing they have in common
is I didn't back them

I did back Clarke, Norman, and Rogers
the year before they won.

Obviously I didn't back anybody last year
so that link is broken

Gary Player reckons it's one of the easiest
courses on open rotation.

Weather is set fair, dry and warm. A turkey shoot and bombers paradise. Which one though???
By:

When: 12 Jul 21 08:58
It’s certainly not a bombers paradise.

Broke my heart.  Euro 250 at 100/1 Thomas Bjorn.
Haotong Li at 1000 is my outsider.

My head holds the idea that the course has bumpy fairways and flat greens.  True/false?
By:

Very bumpy fairways, but subtle slightly sloping greens.

after seeing min woo win yesterday i think highlights how links golf can be mostly about horses for courses, i think a lively outsider this week could be brendon todd, 12th and 39th on his previous open championship appearances back 6 and 7 years ago when he wasnt at the standard he is now, has had his best results on courses where the wind blows and is 2nd in strokes gained putting this year and is 1st in driving accuracy percentage.

suits short hitters alot more here compared to last week especially if the wind picks up, like poulters chances after a good final round yesterday and goes well on links

Zach Johnson, who won The Open in 2015, has withdrawn due to testing positive for Covid-19. Johnson played the John Deere so this presumably occurred prior to the charter leaving for England. It’s hard to keep track but believe we are up to 16 WDs or opt outs.

you have to laugh,Gary Player must be losing the plot if he thinks it is one of the easiest courses on the rotation.Player would have played in 81 and 85 i should think cannot remember him featuring in either not that that gives you an example of whether the course is difficult.St Andrews must rate as easier and actually the easiest of all the Open courses.Sandwich you have drive the ball well and the fairways are very undulating ,and my experience of the course is it is always windy and generally pretty cold during the Open.

I just ignore anything that Gary Player says.

+2 won in 1985 ffs.

+2 is 282

Norman shot  -13 which was 267.

My recollections are that its
fairly solid test, I missed
1993 open so no idea why it
played so easy that year.

Tigers 19 under at St Andrews
was 269

Stenson -20 was 264 at muirfield

Weather forecast looks very fair to all
as it stands 12mph early rising to 15 and
falling back to 12 late.

I suspect first round leader
will be off early, backed last
weeks winner to be this weeks frl

Mw Lee 90/1 7 places with baldy.

Outright fancy Fitzpatrick, and ooshuizen

Plenty others though, in the mix.

Americans doubtless pleased to see it warming up.

Anyone working thurs/Fri can watch some coverage via the open app. Holes 14,15 and 16 and featured groups each day. Simply sign up to the "one club" within app (free) to view on phone or tablet, work permitting of course.

Q: "What did you call this tournament growing up?"
A: "British Open growing up, but now I call it The Open Championship."

Q: "How come that changed?"
A: "Because that's the name of it."
