"It is with much sadness that we announce our leader, mentor and hero Pete Dye passed this morning at the age of 94.  Pete made an indelible mark on the world of golf that will never be forgotten. We will all miss him dearly."

RIP Sad

We at Crooked Stick Golf Club — the course Pete & Alice called their “firstborn”— are saddened to learn of Pete’s passing.

Pete was a disruptor 50 years before that became a corporate buzzword. We called his style of design “target golf,” for it embraced abrupt change in its landforms, its sink-or-swim choices, its death-or-glory options, its my-way-or-the-highway reasoning.

His artistry includes our masterpieces Blackwolf Run and Whistling Straits..... TPC Sawgrass, Kiawah Island's Ocean Course, French Lick, Teeth of the Dog & Harbour Town.

Today, Pete Dye passed away at the age of 94. He now rests with Alice, his loving wife for 59 years, and who passed less than a year ago. Pete Dye was a titan of golf course architecture to whom nearly every modern architect can trace his lineage. Dye did all four of Kohler’s courses for Herb Kohler.

Just got back from the US and played one of his designs in Vegas. Set on a tiny piece of land that was not in any way suitable imo for an 18 hole course, but it was good fun. Proper legend of the game Pete, Sawgrass and Harbour Town two of my favourite venues each and every year.

Rest in peace.
