My latest forum competition. Having missed last year, a return to what is usually one of the most popular competitions: The OPEN GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP

PLEASE ENTER ON THIS THREAD
The thread appears on both the Golf and Chit-Chat forums, enter on either (not both).

This is how it works:
(in much the same way as my other competitions).

There are 12 sections:
You have to pick 1 player, a Yes/No, or a number (depending on which section) for each one. The scores for each selection are listed too.
Just put the letters A to L with your choice for each – preferably going downwards, followed by a tie-break answer.

In the event of a tie, the tiebreak will come into effect so there should be an overall winner.

If you don’t want to study or look anything up, that’s fine, just guess!!!

There is a prize fund of £410 (so far) which has been very kindly donated by a generous forum user, who once again wishes to remain anonymous.
I’ll ask BF if they want to chip in again and let you know what they say! The prize breakdown will be posted in the scores and standings thread when the event begins.

The Sections: and some details/clues/history
This year’s event is at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland – It was held there in 1951. A links course (as always) with no trees or water on it. Coverage is on Sky sports, BBC Radio 5 live, and BBC TV highlights only. It begins at about 6.45AM on Thursday. Some more details are covered on each section.

A. How many will Last ditch qualifier (having won the John Deere classic) DYLAN FRITELLI score in Round 1
(His 2 previous 1st round scores in the open have been; 71 and 73 – he then missed the cut on both occasions) ,
3 points for exact, 1 point if 1 out

B. Day 1 Leader: Name the player who will lead the event at the end of the 1st round. 6 points for the leader, 4 points for whoever's in 2nd, 2 points for being in 3rd. 1 point if 4th.
You may need to look at the full list of players (outright winner betting page will do) to pick your selection.

C. How many of the players whose surname begins with S will make the cut?: Only 70 (+ties) playersmake the cut.
A number between 0 and 19 for this section.
These are the S’s:
Sabbatini, Schauffele, Schmid,Scott, Senior, Sharma, Shinkwin, Simpson, Smith, Snedeker, Spieth, Stanley, Stenson, Sterne, Stone, Streelman, Sugrue, Sullivan, Syme.
4 points for being right, 2 points if you’re 1 away, 1 point if you're two out.

D. What will the cut mark be
After 2 rounds anyone in the top 70 (and ties) will make the cut. What is the highest (worst) score that will keep a player in for the last 2 days?
Last 3 opens it was 145 (+3), 145 (+5), 146 (+4)
(The weather could play a part in this)
3 points if correct, 1 point if out by 1

E. Best 3rd round score. Par is 71
Lowest ever 3rd round score is 62 (Branden Grace at the par 70 Royal Birkdale, 2017).
Last year it was 64 (Justin Rose)
Choose (imo) from 63 to 75 (if there’s a hurricane) - but the probability is 64 - 68 (possibly depending on the weather)
2 points for being right.

F. How many of these 20 will be in the Top 20 (and ties) at the end of Round 3 (They’re pretty much the top 20 in the betting):
Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Jon Rahm, Tiger Woods, Justin Rose, Xander Schauffele, Francesco Molinari, Adam Scott, Tommy Fleetwood, Henrik Stenson, Justin Thomas, Matt Kuchar, Patrick Cantlay, Rickie Fowler, Hideki Matsuyama, Jason Day, Jordan Spieth, Bryson Dechambeau, Louis Oosthuizen.

So, any number between 0 and 20 for your selection, please.
4 points for exact, 2 for being out by 1, 1 point if 2 out.

G. Top Asian Player.
Choose from: An, Aphibarnrat, Asaji, Cheroenkul, Fujimoto,  Horikawa, Hwang, Ikeda, Im, Imahira, Inamori, Janewattanond, Jang, Kanaya, Kang, S.Kim, Kitayama, Li, Matsuyama, Meesawat, Mun, Pan, Park, Sharma.
3 points for top, 1 point for 2nd, (among the Asians)

H. Top British or Irish Player
Choose from: Baldwin, Casey, Clarke, Fitzpatrick, Fleetwood, Harrington, Hatton, Johnston, Knipes, Knox, Lawrie. Lewis, Locke, Lowry, MacIntyre, McDowell, McIlroy, Pepperill, Porteous, Poulter, Rock, Rose, Senior, Shinkwin, Sugrue, Sullivan, Syme, Thurloway, Turner, Wallace, Waring, Westwood, Willett, A.Wilson, O.Wilson, Wood.
4 points for top, 2 points for 2nd, 1 point for 3rd (among those from the British Isles)

I. Top Continental European Player
Choose from: Arnaus, Cabrera-Bello, Bertasio, Bjerregaard, Bjork, Campillo, Garcia, Hebert, Jimenez, Korhonen, Langasque, Levy, Lorenzo-Vera, Luiten, Molinari, Noren, Olesen, Otaegui, Pavan, Pieters, Rahm, Sabbatini, Schmid, Stenson, Wiesberger.
4 points for top, 2 points for 2nd, 1 point for 3rd

J. Top American
Choose from: Bradley, Cantlay, Cink, Dahmen, Dechambeau, Duval, Finau, Fowler, Furyk, Glover, Harman, Hoffman, Holmes, Horschel, D.Johnson, Z.Johnson, C.Kim, Kisner, Kitayama, Kizzire, Koepka, Kokrak, Kuchar, Lashley, Lehman, Lipsky, List, Mickelson, Mitchell, Palmer, Putnam, Reavie, Redman, Reed, Schauffele, Simpson, Snedeker, Spieth, Stanley, Streelman, Thomas, Walker, Watson, Wise, Woodland, Woods, Wu.
5 points for top, 3 point for 2nd, 2 points for 3rd, 1 point for 4th

K. What will be the outright winning margin?
The last 5 Opens have been won by: 2, 3, 3, P/O, 2. Biggest ever margin, 13 shots (Young Tom Morris, 1862)
Choose from: P/O, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9+.
3 points for being exactly right.

L. What will be the final winning score? Par is 71
Choose a number between 260 and 300. (more probably between 270 and 285 (-14 and +1)
The last 5 winning scores were: 276, 268, 264, 273, 271
5 points for spot on, 3 points for 1 out, 2 points if 2 out, 1 point if 3 out.

TIEBREAK : 2 parts to make sure:
1.How many previous winners will make the top 20 (and ties) at the end of the tournament?
These are they: Francesco Molinari, Jordan Spieth, Henrik Stenson, Zach Johnson, Rory McIlroy, Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, Darren Clarke, Louis Oosthuizen, Stewart Cink, Pádraig Harrington, Tiger Woods, David Duval, Paul Lawrie, Tom Lehman

2. On how many of the 72 holes will Tiger Woods score par? (if he misses the cut, we’ll just double the 1st 36 holes)
anything fron 0 to 72... last year he parred 46 of them

Other stuff

E&OE - If there's a player missing from any of the sections as I've listed them (I don't think I've missed anyone), he will be ignored for scoring purposes.
Any ties in any sections, points shared; (eg, if the score is 2 points for 3rd, 1 point for 4th, and there's a tie for 3rd, both will score 1.5)
Please put initials with any ambiguous selections (eg. There are 2 Johnsons and a Johnston, 2 Kims, 2 Wilsons). Any doubt about a selection for a section will score ZERO for that section regardless of the intention.

If I’ve made any glaring errors please let me know, and I’ll do my best to rectify….. otherwise….
The organiser's (that's me) decision is final. I'll try to update scores and standings at the end of each day's play. In all cases, common sense will prevail.
Entries accepted until 11.59pm, Wednesday 17th July.

NO LATE ENTRIES ACCEPTED

Good Luck everybody and enjoy the golf.

It's not 2 chances... it's 2 totally separate entries.
Either way though, if one of us were to win, it would be dinner out, somewhere nice.
